- noupsell, on 07/17/2009, -0/+68fta | But Sanford's habit of more costly travel at the taxpayers' expense contradicts his claim of frugality. When first running for governor in 2002, the former congressman, who once boasted of sleeping on a cot in his office to save money, blasted incumbent state officials for their expensive flights.
"This kind of lavish spending with taxpayers footing the bill just doesn't make any sense to me," Sanford said in one campaign ad. "If I become your governor, I'll fix that problem." - arTech, on 07/18/2009, -4/+53Accepting stimulus for Police force - NO
Accepting stimulus for Teachers - NO
Using taxpeyers money for trips to Argentina - Of course silly - aliengoods, on 07/17/2009, -1/+49Do what I say, not what I do.
- Ymeg, on 07/18/2009, -2/+39He should pay the state back.
- JoeMondo, on 07/17/2009, -1/+37Surely those rules and expectations are for the little people - not him.
- chrismwood, on 07/17/2009, -0/+35To be fair, coach isn't romantic AT ALL.
- crashbang, on 07/18/2009, -3/+34Douche.
- ironhide, on 07/18/2009, -1/+29Didn't even notice the giant bold "MOSTLY FALSE" next to that article?
- twiztidsinz, on 07/18/2009, -0/+27According to Fox he was...
- lhbaker, on 07/18/2009, -2/+25Sanford and Palin should run in 2012. The Conservative base would love them.
- inactive, on 07/18/2009, -2/+25If by Liberal you mean ultra-right-wing conservative pseudo religious meet in public restrooms to get blowjobs and sex from gay men, then yes.
- lhbaker, on 07/18/2009, -1/+22Ad hominem much?
- lhbaker, on 07/18/2009, -1/+21RTFA: That was entirely his claim. But it was false.
- hankthedwarf, on 07/18/2009, -3/+23Typical conservative hypocrisy.
- Rotzooi, on 07/17/2009, -5/+24Ken Starr needs to investigate the entire Republican Party.
(If he's not dead yet; I wished the worst on him for so long, he might very well have succumbed) - regeya, on 07/18/2009, -8/+27Oh, but you guys don't get it. That money was already stolen from the productive members of society. If the money hadn't been used in this manner, it would likely have been wasted on a social program.
- tmyprod, on 07/18/2009, -1/+19I think its time to make it official policy that whenever a politician has a stance on anything, they are secretly doing the opposite.
If they're...
... anti-pot, they're stoners
... anti-prostitution, they're johns
... anti-porn, they're pornstars
... anti-choice, they've had an abortion
... anti-gay, they're gay
... pro-warrant less wiretapping, they've something to hide
... anti-digital piracy, they leaked the Wolverine workprint
... pro-torture, they're terrorists
... pro-jesus, they're satanists
... pro-war, they're hippies
and so on. - LAmandingo, on 07/18/2009, -5/+23Republicans are draft dodging, self centered hypocrites that like to cheat on their wives sometimes with other guys while attempting to force feed their fake morality.
I can only hope that the hottest places in hell are reserved for people like this.
The rumor is that on the door to his bedroom it says "Do as I say, not as a I do" - badqat, on 07/17/2009, -0/+16He did fix it! He's using those expensive flights for himself...which makes perfect sense to him!
- KaiserArny, on 07/18/2009, -1/+16poprocksandsoda there's this thing called Scrolling http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrolling
That would have help you read the rest of the text expaining why it's "MOSTLY FALSE" - rabidjester, on 07/18/2009, -1/+15Pay attention, those playing along at home. This is how you fail spectacularly at deflecting.
- pintomp3, on 07/18/2009, -2/+16Adding another layer to the hypocrisy. Even creepier is how these recent social conservative cheaters were part of "C street".

poprocksandsoda has never let facts get in the way of a rant. - Elranzer, on 07/18/2009, -0/+13"the former congressman, who once boasted of sleeping on a cot in his office to save money, blasted incumbent state officials for their expensive flights."
Any time a Republican is demonizing something, you can fully expect he's doing it in secret. - inactive, on 07/18/2009, -1/+13But he won't. Just like he should have resigned, but didn't.
- rizzono, on 07/18/2009, -1/+13I swear is there no such thing as honesty and integrity today amongst politicians.
They all just say whatever gets them where they want to go and so they can get elected
and bask in their power and money. What a hypocrite. - mc88, on 07/18/2009, -1/+12Politician's Creed:
Do as I say, not as I do. - cupboardwitch, on 07/18/2009, -2/+13"He compares very favorably with previous administrations on use of the state plane, and we believe he would compare favorably on his use of other state travel as well,"
Just because everyone else did it doesn't make it right. If they all jumped off a bridge... well, I guess we can hope. - jgzman, on 07/18/2009, -0/+10She needs a full sized jet for what reason?
As stated very clearly in the article, she is third in line for the presidency, and thus the Sergent-at-Arms requested that she travel from DC to her home state (CA) in a single leg. No refueling stops.
Reading comprehension for the win. - biotch, on 07/18/2009, -0/+10Yeah I was thinking that.... I dont mind if a gov. doesnt fly coach. But I mind that he was flying at all to see a mistress on taxpayer money after criticizing others for expensive travel; flying first class is just an exclamation point on his hypocrisy.
- Sil369, on 07/18/2009, -1/+10she's the other mistress
- Arkyll, on 07/18/2009, -1/+8Agreed
- method7670, on 07/18/2009, -0/+7what a tool.
- JanSimpson, on 07/17/2009, -1/+8And coach sucks on all international flights
- rabidjester, on 07/18/2009, -1/+7?
- grovest4life, on 07/18/2009, -1/+7$ You've unlocked the Politician's Greed achievement.
- jjesusfreak01, on 07/18/2009, -1/+7Look to California's governor, who pays for all of his nonofficial travel, and even some that would be covered by the state, namely his weekly flights between his home and the capitol.
- rabidjester, on 07/18/2009, -1/+6Oh God I'll become a believer if you can just make this happen.
- Paranor01, on 07/18/2009, -0/+5without money, reform can't happen.
but as a troll you knew that i'm sure :) - NorthMass, on 07/18/2009, -2/+6Sanford is a fake libertarian it seems, so I am glad he won't run for president and fool people into thinking he is something he is not.
- rocknog, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5We have a liberal party in this country? News to me.
- kmf247, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5Do you expect the Chosen One to fly coach?!?!
He's been chosen by God and The C Street Mafia to rule from on high.
All Hail!! - SpinningHead, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5Maybe we just need teachers to start seducing conservatives so they'll start putting money into education.
- inactive, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5Years ago, maybe the second time I met Mark Sanford (in June of 1996), he was sitting one row in front of me (in coach) on a flight from his congressional district to DC.
I can understand the justification for flying in an upgraded class all the way to China or to Brazil. It's pretty miserable in coach on those international flights (if you haven't flown in one, trust me) and we want him rested and thinking straight when he arrives. - jgzman, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5Wasted on a social program, eh? Glad to know that I'm a waste.
I grew up on food stamps. Spent four years enlisted, so I could protect your sorry ass from enemies both foreign and domestic. Shortly hereafter, I'll be a chemical engineer, pulling down $80K a year, and with any luck solving the energy crisis.
What do you do? - bjornski, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5Clinton would have gotten a 3rd term, avoiding GWB.
- dancantone, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3typical no?
- TheSwashbuckler, on 07/18/2009, -2/+5Republicans - do as we say, not as we do
- jarjarbinx, on 07/18/2009, -2/+5well, it's conservative as long as tax payer money is not used for the poor and the needy...In that case, that will be socialism. Money should only be spent for the rich and the powerful.
- bjornski, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3Yeah, and he also signed off on NAFTA (which I'll never forgive him for). But he wouldn't have made $1.8Trl in tax cuts permanent, and we wouldn't be up to our ***** in a country that we had no business invading and who doesn't want us there.
But blaming all this ***** on Fannie Mae and stuff when it all boils down to commission-based "bankers" selling what they knew was a bad product to people that couldn't afford it, and then turning around and selling these "Guaranteed AAA" assets to a guarantor. Oftentimes chopping them up into teeny-tiny pieces and selling this new economic poison called "derivatives".
There's lots of blame to be spread around. But let's blame the poor people. -
