- Vern58, on 10/07/2008, -2/+26 Those of us who were old enough to remember this know what havoc McCain and his fellow Keating 5 conspirators did to our financial system. New voters who were not around or unaware because of age who have no memory of it need to be educated. To push it back as old news does voters a disservice. It isimportant for people to know just what a scumbag McCain really is.
- mostlysunny1, on 10/07/2008, -3/+22"McCain was found "NOT GUILTY"? So was O.J., at first. McCain stood by and did NOTHING though he knew it was wrong. And then he went and got Phil Gramm, OF ALL PEOPLE, to be a top advisor? This country simply cannot put trust in McCain to steer our economic course any longer. Watch this: http://KeatingEconomics.com.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -3/+19We need to hear more about this. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for the mainstream media to discuss this seriously though. It's not old news for new voters!
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/08/2008, -4/+15McCain was not 'exonerated' - he caught a lucky break by the Senate because the 'offense' occurred while he was a Representative in the House.
For more details: http://keatingeconomics.com/ - Olon97, on 10/07/2008, -2/+10He was found to have had "poor judgment", and his policies and votes afterward encouraged the exact same pattern of unregulated real estate speculation ponzi schemes. That's no phantom, that's the crux of his character and economic policies today. Phil Gramm and that Italian con-artist are just as criminal as Keating ever was, and McCain still failed to recognize them for the frauds they are - that's modern day "poor judgment".
Only this time around instead of 20,000 people losing their life savings, millions are affected ($2 trillion retirement savings equity lost since the start of the crisis). We can't afford to let someone with that sort of blind judgment of character be choosing the administrative staff for our country for the next 4 years. - rsbryswrrl, on 10/08/2008, -6/+14He was wrong then and he's wrong now - not what this country needs...
- CaptOblivious, on 10/08/2008, -0/+8It truly amazes me exactly how much cognitive dissonance republicans can withstand!
You'd think their heads would explode or something.
I have a clue for you all, the "terrorist" you accuse Obama of being associates with? They were on the board of a not for profit at the same time.
I am willing to BET you real money that Obama never stayed at his compound, that was McCane & family at Keating's compound, I quote from truthout,
McCain and his family took at least nine free trips at Keating's expense, and vacationed nearly every year at the mogul's estate in the Bahamas. There they would spend the days yachting and snorkeling and attending extravagant parties in a world McCain referred to as "Charlie Keating's Shangri-La."
Perhaps you should look at the history of your chosen candidate, you don't have to just believe truthout either, there are other places to find this info, your local library's newspaper archive is a charm for this sort of recent history, you could even find corroborating evidence on google if you looked.
Here is truthout's page on him, read it & look for real evidence to disprove ANY of it. http://www.truthout.org/100508A
I haven't found any untruth there yet and yes I actually left my home & went & read the digital fiche of the newspapers of the time.
Anyone with his motivations, temper and total lack of judgement should never be trusted with real power. Ever.
You McCain "bull[*****]dogs need to realize that your candidates history contains many many more bad actions that are MUCH worse than ANYTHING
Obama has EVER done, and you can certainly whip out anything you want to try getting away with but you better realize you are only burying your own candidate because we have more and bigger "ammo " than you do. - cheesegypsy, on 10/08/2008, -6/+13Bad time to have a banking scandal in your past.
- Echota, on 01/05/2009, -4/+10I'm thinking Retrial by the people this time!
McCain needs to be looked into! - Codee, on 10/08/2008, -0/+6If any of the Keating 5 were running for President they should get the squeeze put on em' too. I don't care if it is a Democrat or a Republican. Lincoln Savings failure cost is estimated to have totaled around $160.1 billion, about $124.6 billion of which was directly paid for by the U.S. taxpayer. Why shouldn't McCain get a (dis)honorable mention, considering the findings did conclude that he displayed very "poor judgement"? He's put a lot on his so called good "judgement" and reputation. I have seen better judgement from a stray dog crossing the highway. As far as reputation, that ***** is fading faster than a Britney Spears album.
- LKnight, on 10/08/2008, -2/+6What McCain deserves is retirement.
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) who after a quarter century on Capitol Hill surely knows the political etiquette, did not refer to Senator Obama as respectfully as he would would any other colleague. If Obama had referred to McCain as "that one," he'd have been ridiculed or attacked for showing flagrant disrespect. THAT ONE? "The Nation" has called him on it.

No wonder Obama is America's choice.
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/The_Nation_The_A ... - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -12/+16FTA:""You can criticize rest of us," [DeConcini] said, "but none of us had traveled with or invested with [Keating]."" Yes, but the three who were found guilty of interfering in the investigation were guilty of pulling strings for Keating. McCain was found "NOT GUILTY". Sounds like DeConcini is playing political games, and HuffPo is letting him. HuffPo is also letting Obama get away with covering up his past radical connections, like the extent of his Nation of Islam connections through Tony Rezko, and his middle-eastern ties through Khalid al-Mansour. Look up the videos on youtube about al-Mansour to see what Obama is trying to cover up, and what the leftist MSM is letting him get away with.
- crombenevolant, on 10/08/2008, -2/+6Don't forget that John Glenn is now one of Obama's economic advisers. Funny I don't see anything in these articles or comments about him....
- BotchaMcCoola, on 10/08/2008, -1/+4McCain is everywhere. Bad judgment examples like this, Vietnam, Iraq. Terrorism, etc. Yet he still says a few good conservative things. But so did Bush who seems to be some kind of Tranny Liberal camping it up with the wildest overspending ever while drunk at the wheel about our biggest economic problems.
- CaptOblivious, on 10/08/2008, -1/+4Nothing to do with BLAME, EVERYTHING to do with a complete and total lack of good JUDGEMENT on McCain's part. Go read the page...
- Huffybike, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3http://tinyurl.com/4zftel When even Sherri Shepherd is calling you out, it's a big deal.
- Vermifax, on 10/08/2008, -1/+4Bush & Rumsfeld had strong ties to terrorists. I guess if you're White, it's fine & dandy by gosh. You betcha! *wink*
- UniversalGuy, on 10/08/2008, -1/+4Obama supporters...it is time we showed our numbers. We won't let these sleazy, ignorant, scum push us around anymore. We know we can, because we have more numbers than them, a lot more.
So stand up, do your part, and lets help Obama get elected, because he needs us, just as much as we need him. He cannot do this without us, and we cannot start America on a a better path without him.
So please, do your part, contribute in whatever way you can. You can see these war loving neo cons constantly make ignorant baseless attack videos on Obama, and they never quit. We need to show them that we won't be bullied by them any more. We have to fight back. We messed up in 00, and 04 because we were TOO SOFT. And we clearly almost messed up in this election because of the same reason, but thankfully, our candidate is not "too soft" this time. He isnt afraid to say what needs to be said, and sticks to what he believes will make this country a better place.
If everyone comes together, we can overcome the bad, the good guy will win this time.
John Mccain can keep the negative ads, we don't want them. We want peace.
Remember that the deadline to register has already passed in some states, other states its very close! So please please it's so easy to register, all you need to do is fill out your name and ID, then sign it and mail it (instructions are provided). Its very simple. You can always get more information by going to google and searching about voting and deadlines.
Make the difference. Every single vote counts, this election means a lot more than any previous election.
Do your part on november 4th!
Future generations will thank you. - cmootoo, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2A lot of these 'associations' you mention are being blown up and out of proportion by the McCain camp to try and kill Obama's momentum. They've also been gone over by the press and analysts multiple times and there is nothing there.
A CNN fact check did uncover the fact that McCain did try and delay regulations that would have cracked down in Charles Keating's practice.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/06/fa ...
He does repeat those mistakes in judgement when he appointed Phil Gramm as his main economic adviser, had lobbyists running his campaign and writing his policies. - phantom_mullet, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pb71YOA9WuQ
- cheesegypsy, on 10/08/2008, -2/+4Oh yeah, strong ties. I personally like the idea of a president who knows radicals.
Most people don't take time to read the back-story to these things, so which story seems more compelling in a 30 second commercial? A complicated, twisted story of some guy from the 60's that no one's ever heard of (certainly not anyone under the age of 65), or a banking scandal from 20 years ago that resembles the same corruption that we see today. I'm guessing unless they are a dedicated Rush listener that they pick #2.
The polls back me up. - webwatch, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1 You dimwit why does Obama need an exoneration? McCain wined, dined, vacationed and travelled with Keating. He approached the regulators and introduced related legislation. He participated in the crime. There was an investigation and McCain luckily got away.
What is Obama's crime you GOP nutjob? - LKnight, on 10/08/2008, -2/+3What McCain "deserves" is retirement. He's obviously lost it.

- primaldefense, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1All McCain took was some plane trips, that was it. He did nothing to actually help Keating. Really I don't like either of the two big canidates that we have, but after looking at everythign thats out their, true and not true. Since I feel like I really should vote for one of teh two big canidates so I am not throwing my vote away, I ended up picking McCain after doing a Pro/Con list.
Economic issues requires that the president have congress backing him up, since Congress is the true power when it comes to economic policy. Really the president focuses mostly on foreign policy, and I would rather have McCain then Obama control that. That was the only thing that tipped the scales in McCains favor. With Obama I fear that we will have another Carter presidency which was pathetic.
Yes I agree that McCain made a dumb ass move even accepting plane flights but people make mistake. Peer pressure doesn't help either and I could see some of McCains buddies who were part of the 5 that were investigated encouraging him to come along. To be honest, I am annoyed with the whole political process and parties we have now. Neither is what they were, nor are they becoming what we would like them to be. - CaptOblivious, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1oops
- webwatch, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1McCain wined, dined, vacationed and traveled with Keating Family. McCain's father-in-law was a investor with Keating. He then met with the regulators and tried to influence the investigation. He introduced related legislation.
Clearly it has an appearance of an ethical wrongdoing ... if not a legal one. - webwatch, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1Funny that you think every tainted Democrat is somehow linked with Obama's campaign. If you extract your head out of your ass maybe you will see the light!
- cmootoo, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1The Muslim rumors were started just to make people afraid of Obama. McCain showed a lack of judgement in being involved with Keating and continues to show that same lack of judgement today.
- CaptOblivious, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1primaldefense
First, lets see you come up with a good defense for McCain's entire military career, his early, middle and current political career and the fact that he has changed every single value he has ever held to try to get elected POTUS.
Ya know what? that's too hard, how about you just explain why it's OK for him to take money, trips and vacations from Keating and then use his position of power to delay an investigation into his "friend's" business.
And no, I DON'T CARE that he wasn't convicted of anything, it was a ***** move that should have ended his political career and you KNOW it. I'm sure he owes a bunch of people favors for helping him get through that.
Oh yea before you get huffy, the other 4 should have been kicked out of politics too, but right now they ain't running for president.
The republican creedo seems to be that ANYTHING is OK as long as you don't get sentenced to jail.
I don't think so.
Oh and did you bother to read the truthout page on him? I bet not. - webwatch, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1Besides McCain is a traitor. He collaborated with North Vietnamese. As a POW instead of giving only his Name, Rank and Serial number he also revealed who his dad was and in the process became a tool for their propaganda.
- cmootoo, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1Once again kid. Youtube isn't a creditable source of information. This kind of post would go over a lot better in townhall, fox news blogs etc.
- cmootoo, on 10/08/2008, -1/+1Yeah and the nation solidly backing Obama says quite a bit about him as well.
- primaldefense, on 10/08/2008, -1/+1Exactly, ppl make mistakes, at least in the case of this situation McCain did not do anything to help Keating. The 3 who were convicted and found guilty defiantely did. This helps show that McCain is human, he has admited it was bad judgement on his part and has never repeated this mistake again. Obama has repeat mistakes, things that stand out are: being the congressman who has recieved the 2nd most amount of money from freddie mac & fannie mae, and his consistant associations and close friendships with people like Frank Marshall, Jeremiah Wright, Father Phflegher, Michelle, Loius Farrakhan, Saul Alinsky, William Ayres, Brenadine Dohrn, Tony Rezko, Emil Jones, Franklin Raines, and Jim Johnson. heck, when I tried to do research on both canidates to make a decision back when the primaries were going on, googling Obama and many of these individuals just turned me off to him. It took awile for alot of the info to come out but it was out there.
- cmootoo, on 10/08/2008, -1/+1Actually what he's trying to say is that they've been investigated and nothing found. The McCain campaign is clutching at straws now to try and dig up the slightest bit of connections that just aren't there. But I guess in your mind its all a liberal media conspiracy right?
McCain has been in the Senate for 26 years. You really think if Obama wanted to stoop to his level that finding questionable characters with real associations would be hard?
Obama is going to win this election and not by what he's done or said but rather McCain making himself out to be the unelectable candidate he really is. - tl01, on 02/12/2009, -0/+0booooooooo

When you capitalize your racist slur you turn it into a proper name. - primaldefense, on 10/08/2008, -2/+1yawn, that's right bash away on McCain supports but never actually come up with good defense for Obama. Dig a little deeper on the info on people such as Frank Marshall, Jeremiah Wright, Father Phflegher, Michelle, Loius Farrakhan, Saul Alinsky, William Ayres, Brenadine Dohrn, Tony Rezko, Emil Jones, Franklin Raines, and Jim Johnson and their relationships to Obama and what they have done in life. You would be surprised.
- hmmmok, on 10/08/2008, -4/+1What DeConcini said is not what the headline states. HuffPo, you've done it again!
- TSK05, on 10/08/2008, -5/+1I am voting for McCain but site your source.. a quick google search didn't reveal much.
- inactive, on 10/08/2008, -7/+3So does obambi. Nut you aren't so quick to do that.
At least McCain has been exonerated of this.
Has obambi? - inactive, on 10/08/2008, -8/+4Bad time to have strong ties to terrorists in your present.
- Latentk, on 10/08/2008, -6/+2I agree. Folks are rather quickly forgetting this is a Democrat attempting to further smear McCain by claiming the blame did not go around fairly.
This is a joke, obviously he is going to claim McCain was not punished equally. He was only found NOT ***** guilty! And as before somebody mentioned the fact that Obama chose to use John Glen, another gentleman ALSO involved in the scandal as an advisor. Wierd!!!!! - TSK05, on 10/08/2008, -7/+2Obviously he's guilty even though he was found innocent, just like Obama is a Muslim terrorist even though there's proof he's not even Muslim.
- TSK05, on 10/08/2008, -6/+1Obviously him being found not guilty is a big conspiracy and this democrat is right. And Obama is a Muslim terrorist...right?
- poprocksandsoda, on 10/08/2008, -15/+10Sounds like people here forget:
1. This guy is a democrat
2. McCain and John Glenn were cleared
This Keating 5 scandal is really a lame topic. When it all comes down, no one ever went to jail or was convicted of a felony except Charles Keating. McCain and the other 4 of the Keating 5 ... all Democrats ... basically moved on. - poprocksandsoda, on 10/08/2008, -7/+2John Glenn is a career high-ranking Democrat with 25 years under his belt. If he really is backing McCain that says quit a bit about McCain. I've not heard that anywhere.
- inactive, on 10/08/2008, -7/+1Yea, I'm going to go to an obambi created site to get information.
Time to pull your head out. - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -13/+5Again, McCain was exonerated. Stop chasing phantoms.
