factcheck.org — McCain's new ad says Obama is to blame for high gas prices. The nonprofit, nonpartisan FactCheck.org calls that claim "absurd."

- thejimmyo, on 07/22/2008, -1/+7Here is a direct link to the Department of Energy's website, which debunks McCain's ridiculous claims of "short-term" (psychological?) benefits to leasing more federal land for offshore drilling:

It's also worth noting that even if the federal moratorium were lifted, the people and governor of California still oppose it on the state level. So the effect of offshore drilling would be even LESS than the DoE's "no significant impact" assessment. - motivatedmama, on 07/22/2008, -1/+5Nice! This is a good one to pass on to those Repug acquaintances of yours. Some ***** is just too ridiculous not to debunk.
- thejimmyo, on 07/22/2008, -1/+6McCain also lied about there being no oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita:

(So did his energy industry lobbyist/adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer) - thejimmyo, on 07/22/2008, -1/+5For all his talk about ending our reliance on foreign oil, he opposes public transportation, says that shuttering Amtrak is "non-negotiable," and supports a gas tax holiday that will essentially starve public transit of funding.
http://dcist.com/2008/06/05/transit_on_thur_34.php
He has also voted against increasing fuel efficiency standards and is not proposing any increases in the future.
In its place, he says vague things about nuclear energy getting us off of foreign oil. Even though we only get 3% of our electricity from oil. Unless McCain is proposing nuclear powered cars, nuclear energy will do pretty much nothing to our oil consumption.
Here we have a major issue in the campaign, and McCain has been consistently deceitful about it at pretty much every level. I guess that's what happens when your campaign team is run by lobbyists. . . .- motivatedmama, on 07/22/2008, -0/+5As for his nuclear energy hype, he has no real idea where to store the waste either. Except for Yucca Mountain of course. One thing I notice is that Obama rarely proposes something without having thought of a way to implement it. McCain just throws out whatever and hopes it sticks.
- meeks82, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1That is probably the case because one candidate expects to be elected and the other doesn't.
