- EntropyMan, on 10/29/2007, -5/+122So first they pretend to respond to natural disasters, then they pretend to answer questions from reporters. What's next? They'll create fake disasters in the first place to complete the trifecta of unreality. They'll be batting 1000%.
If this keeps up, DHS will eventually become the leading daytime soap opera, featuring recurring characters like Osama Come Lately and his three scheming wives, Mikey Chertoff, the uber stud (played by an actor, of course), and Maria Menudos, the sexy DHS spokesperson who has a nightlife you won't believe. It will ultimately make more money from advertisers than taxpayers and we'll be glued to our seats, perhaps literally.
They'll call it: "As the World Burns." - SheilaNoya, on 10/29/2007, -5/+76The Bush Administration always finds a way to sink to a new low. I can't wait until the end of Bush's term when all of these idiots have to face REAL citizens, instead of their carefully selected, pre-screened crowds of loyal supporters. Can you even imagine Bush in front of a crowd of REAL Americans? I'd love to see the outcome of THAT.
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -4/+53unbelievable... the US has become a joke.
- katie212, on 10/27/2007, -3/+39Please Fox news and redstate and etc... tell us it's "Just a Wacko Conspiracy Theorist view" of how things are. Our true red white and blue patriotic government officials would never sink to such an underhanded tactic now would they? And if they would do this, what else would they underhandedly sink to possibly do? Sounds more like the old Hammer and Sickle to me.
- swrostmore, on 10/29/2007, -4/+37I wonder if Blackwater will be policing the FEMA camps in California like they did in New Orleans.
- sineyopitty, on 10/27/2007, -1/+29But he put cronies in those positions (remember Brownie?). He IS responsible, how come you don't understand that?
- theinept, on 10/29/2007, -1/+24Johnson should lose his job for this. Totally unacceptable.
- Hamletlere, on 10/27/2007, -1/+24Gosh, and I thought the President appointed the Director of FEMA... who kind of sets the tone for the whole organization.
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -4/+26More dirty tricks from the Republicans. Rove's teachings live on in their party, the White House, & many branches of government run by these mafia-like right wingers where ethics are never even considered. We need laws to protect us from this type of fraud. They are truly un-American.
- Rustbelt, on 10/27/2007, -1/+20At this point the entire Bush presidency is just becoming a bad sitcom.
- physphd, on 10/27/2007, -1/+19Let's see...it's part of the executive branch, the head is a presidential appointee, they were reorganized by this administration's executive orders, and so on. Does the nickname "Brownie" not ring a bell as perhaps the most grossly unqualified appointee in history? At least it can only get better...or not by the look of this story.
Harry Truman had a nice little sign on his desk saying, "The Buck Stops Here." Maybe "The Decider" should take some notes. - notque, on 10/28/2007, -1/+18IN SOVIET RUSSIA, REPORTERS QUESTION YOU!
- cramtod, on 10/28/2007, -1/+17The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it. --- P.J. O'Rourke
- nihilite, on 10/27/2007, -1/+17I think you misunderstood. They are sending trailers. FEMA trailers take a couple years to get there.
- thespudmall, on 10/29/2007, -2/+17But did they answer questions regarding hair?
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -1/+16So you think it's OK that they ask themselves all the questions at their own press conferences? Maybe we should implement this same structure in debates!
- xmichael, on 10/27/2007, -1/+15Wow, i really hope this gets some major press coverage... this story needs to be told
- JoeVet, on 10/27/2007, -2/+16Factually, Swrostmore is correct. Blackwater was deployed to New Orleans which begs the question, are they to be deployed in California? Nothing bipartisan about the truth. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ...
- AndreiOttawa, on 10/27/2007, -1/+14"So first they pretend to respond to natural disasters, then they pretend to answer questions from reporters. What's next? They'll create fake disasters in the first place to complete the trifecta of unreality. They'll be batting 1000%"
This worked great in Soviet Russia - swrostmore, on 10/27/2007, -2/+14...nothing to do with another other than being in america, in federal disaster areas, and administered by FEMA. And how exactly is my post "partisan" anyway?
- duggtodeath, on 10/27/2007, -2/+12Post of the week award goes to EntropyMan!
- JattaPake, on 10/29/2007, -3/+13"You're doin' a heckava job, FEMMIE!"
I'm just glad they didn't send us a bunch of damn trailers. - JirkJiggler, on 10/27/2007, -0/+10It's been done before, more or less. Bush takes questions from the press that are pre-approved and pre-assigned, yet all the reporters stick up their hands like he will actually choose a reporter right then.
- humboldt79, on 10/27/2007, -2/+11Anyone hear about how our fire planes are way outdated and that both Russia and Canada have offered to let us use their far more advanced planes and all we have to do is pay for fuel, but we turned them down. These more advanced planes can supposedly drop 20 times more water on a fire than our current planes.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -1/+9nice try...but still lame.
- Acewrap, on 10/27/2007, -1/+9How long does it take for you to come up with a defense of something so blatantly immoral?
- hierophantus, on 10/27/2007, -3/+11My reactions, in the order I had them:
1) How stupid did they have to be to think they would get away with this? Smooth.
2) Can't really pin this on Bush, even though it's the kind of thing he would do himself.
3) At least they didn't use Jeff Gannon as a "reporter." - swrostmore, on 10/27/2007, -1/+8Its been done before with both fake and real reporters - At one point with Karl Rove's plant Jeff Gannon, and with real reporters at Bush's infamous "this is scripted" press conference
- Ninnux, on 10/27/2007, -1/+8@SheilaNoya
Having lived in Houston and seen the community where Bush senior lives, I can assure you that at no time during the rest of his natural life will George W. needlessly inconvenience himself with real Americans if by that you mean the middle-class. - inajeep, on 10/27/2007, -1/+8Plastic news. They don't seem to see anything wrong w/ faking this stuff. It just leads to more and more smoke & mirrors.
- cheesehead, on 10/27/2007, -2/+8What did you expect them to say dummy?
- dboone74, on 10/27/2007, -1/+7"...the staff played reporters for what on TV looked just like the real thing."
As long as it looks like the real thing on TV I'm satisfied. I don't watch the news for reality or the truth, I watch CSI for that. - Homet, on 10/27/2007, -1/+7Is anyone concerned about how fascist this is? How many people are going to know the truth about this at the end of the day? Yeah this is on digg, but the majority of our citizens get their information from the TV.
- Jimmerz, on 10/27/2007, -1/+7Amalgamutt: What far left media are you referring to? I can't believe people still bother with that old chestnut about a 'liberal media'. It's *****.
- JoeVet, on 10/27/2007, -1/+7How do you know where he/she lives? Are you clairvoyant? There are many places that have the internet with access to you stupid rantings on DIGG. And in a majority of those other places the reputation of the once great United States is now no better than any other two bit republic that condones torture. Perhaps you should pull your head out.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -1/+6You're a moron. I call that a reporter making sure there isn't a whitewash.
- garethkeenan, on 10/27/2007, -1/+6"...Because of the kids. They called me Mr. Glass."
- maou, on 10/27/2007, -3/+7I'd like to see a source for this. The sad thing is, it sounds totally plausible.
- Wraithius, on 10/27/2007, -1/+5I'm digging you up, so that others may learn from your mistakes. :-p
- hierophantus, on 10/28/2007, -1/+5If I thought you believed what you wrote, I would say you deserve the sham form of democratic discourse you seem to prefer, although if you had your way the rest of us would have to put up with it too.
Of course, you're a transparent troll, so instead I'll just tell you to get a less annoying hobby than posting nonsense on Digg. - cwcentral, on 10/27/2007, -1/+5Being here and watching the mainstream media, they went into propaganda mode after day 2.
You have to admit, credit the 'Governator' and of course, the local gov'ts and townships--they responded in panic mode, though inconvenient at first, it ended up solving the issues by the time FEMA got on the scene--now looks who's trying to take the lime light and credit? - cmcagle, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4Faux-reporter: "Mr. Johnson, would you describe FEMA's response to the California fires as extremely good, or fantastically awesome?"
Johnson: " Good question. At this point, it looks as though we're doing fantastically awesome." - ZenMojo, on 10/27/2007, -3/+7But but...Pravda is truth....
At least George was nice enough to point out what happens when the state takes the lead. Remember people, if you get in a disaster, don't expect any help from the federal government! - maddhopps, on 10/27/2007, -2/+6Hey "idiot," I think "dummy" was right. FEMA wasn't supposed to let the American citizens find out that they staged the press conference. This is a rookie mistake by FEMA that the DHS sincerely condemned as "inexcusable."
- quickslvr1287, on 10/27/2007, -2/+6Just when you think you've seen it all...
- crimsonnblue, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4Uhh. Its on the Washington Post website. There has to be other sites with this same info.
- Kila, on 10/27/2007, -0/+3#1. Pentagon does the same thing fake fluff news fake reporters dressed in camo.
#2. Fox News does the same thing fakes News confernces fake Fox Reporters (Seriously Heraldo Rivera?)
#3. Why did they bother to notify the real media anyways?
#4. They were FEMA reporter fake questions and FEMA Officials Still had to dodge questions and give vauge answers - heystoopid, on 10/27/2007, -0/+3Welcome to the new Union of the Soviet States of Amerika !
Don't forget they still have Michael Brown on the payroll as a consultant !!!!!! - a6n28f, on 10/27/2007, -1/+4LOL Amalgamutt. You've just been bitch-slapped.
Seriously, I don't think you know the difference between Presidential appointee and run of the mill executive branch employee. There are millions of the latter and scant hand full of the former. - inactive, on 10/27/2007, -0/+3They don't know how to "spin" it anymore. All the angles are exhausted and they don't have the good grace to close their doors and find another line of work like I did when I got involved in a business that I should never have been involved with in the first place. They are the ultimate losers with an "impressive" provenance to prove it!...........SMACK!
