- arajan, on 02/22/2008, -4/+55I wish I could dig this a HUNDRED times and get it on the popular list on the first page. But why did you use that thumbnail?
- wisefool9, on 02/22/2008, -1/+43Forget the NYT story about the Maverick(bah). This is the only McCain story that matters right now. He applied for the federal funds, he should have to stick with them now.
- arby34950, on 02/22/2008, -4/+41McCain......I used to think well of him, but he lost touch with reality a while back. He believes Americans won't work for $50/ hour, thinks Bush is soft on torture, 100 years in Iraq is OK (did he feel the same when he was a prisoner in Viet Nam), shenanigans with campaign finance, lobbyists for personal friends. Such a shame.
- Aphelion27, on 02/22/2008, -9/+41Time for the GOP to realize their "anointed one" is full of scandal and impropriety and shift their support to a real conservative. The only GOP candidate the Dems will have NO Ammunition against... Not putting his name here because Digg will censor it.
- theryanocerous, on 02/22/2008, -2/+27 I can’t believe it… No one that rides around in a bus called the straight talk express could do something like this!!!! That would be hypocritical
- krazypuppy, on 02/22/2008, -1/+19agreed. the iseman story gets the sensational side but this is the punch to the gut that send mccain down.
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -3/+21so much for censoring ron paul.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+17This is really interesting. From what I've read, if the Federal Election Commission rules that he did agree to public financing, then he is done. He has already almost hit the $50 million ceiling that public financing regulations place on campaign fundraising for the general election. He would be spent out for the next six months.
- RansomHoldiay, on 02/22/2008, -10/+24the GOP chair is investigating their only chance at the white house... the republican party really is ***** this time around.
all the better! - Lutremi, on 02/22/2008, -7/+21Yeah, okay, Mike Huckabee, we get it.
- Pinkertinkle, on 02/22/2008, -2/+13Poor broke bastard sold his soul to the FEC and now the piper's come a calling.
- minox, on 02/22/2008, -2/+13The site doesn't exactly seem to be objective at all. To quote the article:
" BWWWWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
I know, I know! This is too good to be true - BUUUUUT (1) it's further embarrasses McCain, (2) it proves how hypocritical McCain's ethics are, and (3) it just might MIIIGHT happen! "
I would prefer something not written by a blithering idiot with an agenda. - krazypuppy, on 02/22/2008, -3/+14that was generated by digg & is just what they picked up from the TexasKaos.com site.
in any case, it's a good pick i think - fight for net neutrality! - ostracize, on 02/22/2008, -1/+11Unlike what the article suggests, this wouldn't help Huckabee that much.
- ctrlfreak13, on 02/22/2008, -0/+10*****.
- saska, on 02/22/2008, -1/+10Huh. Wonder why he's so insistent that Obama use public funding as well... Prescience? Or nagging guilt?
- mharvey, on 02/22/2008, -0/+9Yeah, inaccuracies are fun. What you've said above is (well, apart from nitpicking) correct. But there's more!
The Washington Post's article on the subject is pretty good and not only has better grammar and spelling, also dispenses with the idiotic commentary and inaccuracies that lace the article above:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ...
Second, the FECs website makes clear what is going on and has a copy of the letter to McCain from the FEC and vice versa. I'm not sure the writer at texaskaos read this or quite knows how the FEC works...
http://www.fec.gov/press/press2008/20080221mccain. ... - Ruger11mcrdpi, on 02/22/2008, -7/+16I'm a conservative US Marine Infantryman Sergeant and I've been to Iraq I'm currently active duty... let me say this... GO OBAMA!!
That's right. BTW: Huckabee is a person I'd actually consider voting for. By picking McCain as the republican leader, all the republicans did was put the nail in their cofffin. I know 13 Marines personally who are voting for Obama. I know that seems small, but consider we are historically a conservative voting group... if we are voting liberal you know it's over for McCain. - jhorsager, on 02/22/2008, -0/+9No wonder McCain tried to convince Obama to commit to only public funding for the general election. And he acted as if it were on principle. Are there really some who feel this is a man of integrity?
- JigoroKano, on 02/22/2008, -1/+8Can somebody explain how he could prove he didn't mislead them?
- iceman0113, on 02/22/2008, -0/+7FTA: " Now here's a final teaser: FEC Chair Mason said he needs the votes of 4 commissioners to accept McCain's withdrawal from public financing. Unfortunately, the commission only has 2 members because Republicans are fighting Democrats on who should fill the final four spots. And if the commission is unable to meet to resolve the matter, then the Democratically controlled Senate has to give McCain permission to back out of public financing. "
So, I'm guessing with Dems v Reps he's gonna be able to back out unless those spots fill up. If anything, this will be further embarrassment to him as the article suggests. - Frnnkdlxx, on 02/22/2008, -1/+7lol. I'm guessing you still believe in the boogey man in the closet too, right?
Because things dissappear simply because you want them to?
lol. Ron Paul supporters are not figments of the populations imagination. - arby34950, on 02/22/2008, -1/+7Nothing will help Huck, he's just a nut case! The sad thing is a large (not large enough thank God) number of people think Huckabee is ok.
- Pinkertinkle, on 02/22/2008, -0/+6No but you certainly did blow something last night.
- Tom_Riddle, on 02/22/2008, -2/+7are u talking about making minimum wage $50/ hr ? that would make bread cost like $40 a loaf
- NeverReturnKid, on 02/22/2008, -2/+7Should the government even be subsidizing campaigns in the first place?
- deepdiggdude, on 02/22/2008, -1/+6Uh, I think this is pretty clear. The GOP leaders don't want McCain as their nominee. They are going to try to destroy his reputation and then, guess what? A hand picked candidate. Bloomberg? I don't know, but they are freaking out because McCain will lose to Obama and in the unlikely event that he wins, the GOP doesn't want to support him.
- schneid4323, on 02/22/2008, -8/+13So Ron Paul?
/hopedied - digiwand, on 02/22/2008, -0/+5Bingo! And if they can't vote, McCain can NOT be exempted out.
It's a good. :) - krazypuppy, on 02/22/2008, -0/+5i wasn't suggesting it'll help Huckabee that much - just a little. it's too late. short of mccain leaving or his delegates revolting.
it'll hurt the GOP more, help huck a little, and help the Dems alot. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+5Are you sure about that? His campaign raised like... $36 million online last month.
- Napoleone, on 02/22/2008, -2/+7"He [Obama] only accepts individual public donations..."
Think again...

http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.asp?id=N ... - katorga, on 02/22/2008, -1/+6Lol, in their zeal to keep Bush from making appointments, the FEC only has 2 members now. Not enough to quorum and vote on anything.
- aliengoods, on 02/22/2008, -0/+4There are still some in the GOP with integrity. Don't lump them all together. And FYI, I'm a Democrat.
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -2/+6Can anyone prove that he did mislead them?
- Frnnkdlxx, on 02/22/2008, -7/+11Jesus... I'm not even religious, but it's like God is personally stepping in to destroy each republican candidate, specifically for Ron Paul.
Let this be your warning America. Ron Paul or Mother F'ing Bust! - OrangeCrush, on 02/22/2008, -0/+4Better check your facts. Obama pledged to make *good faith negotiations* with the Republican nominee about public financing--if they can agree on a fair set of rules that precludes cheating (like say, going back and forth by not "taking" public funds but using them as collateral on a loan).
McCain's shown he's willing to game the system and exploit any loopholes in his own rules. Obama's not breaking any promises by turning down public financing as long as he makes an effort to negotiate with "Do as I say, not as I do" McCain. - olik, on 02/22/2008, -0/+4Read the article. He sent a letter trying to opt out.
- ctrlfreak13, on 02/22/2008, -1/+4McCain? Save the Internet? No, no there's something not right about this at all!
- jcalex, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3No pilot in his right mind would fly Wingman" with McCain knowing he gave North Viet Nam classified information that resulted in the deaths of American Pilots.
One could have heard all of that on any of the 30 or so interviews John McCain did for the North Vietnamese while he,"Song Bird" was a "POW".
There are pilots that would fly with the "Song Bird",but! that just goes to show that some American Military Pilots can fly a plane, but they are not too smart, otherwise.
I wish someone had the nerve to ask John McCain about the "POW" papers he had put away for ever. Why do you think he did that?
If the so called Hero John McCain is sooo Honest, why dosn`t he just release the Papers and squelch the rumors about his POW day`s and how he got the nick name "Song Bird".John McCain dosn`t have and honest bone in his body yet he is still smarter then most Americans.God forbid he will lead our country. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+3No way, he would not stand a snowball's chance in hell against Obama unless he could corner or guilt him into some kind of public financing deal.
- bthug7, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3So may I ask for your honest military opinion about bases in Iraq for the next hundred years. I haven't asked any military personnel about it yet and would like to hear your opinion. Thanks
- Sogui, on 02/22/2008, -2/+5Reality Check: This is not a scandal, nothing wrong was done... no rules were broken or violated. See my post below for details, there is a dispute about a loan that requires some documentation before McCain can officially leave the public system... even though he never officially joined it either. The only possible "wrong" that could happen here is if he actually LEFT the system without providing documentation on the loan (they already said they will) and it was proven that he used the promise of future funds as collateral for a loan.
This thing has a LONG ways to go before it could be considered a scandal. - elipabst, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3Gay Wedding Bliss? Not that there's anything wrong with that....
- Coven, on 02/22/2008, -5/+8And they will all be subsequently buried. Starting with YOU.
- elipabst, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3His link eventually goes to a rickroll. Dugg you down for being a tool.
- Acewrap, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3Is that a self reference to your comment?
- fpaudon, on 02/22/2008, -3/+5those "lobbiest"s are such a bother. as is spellcheck
- SilverBlade2k, on 02/22/2008, -4/+6If only all candidates could be forced to only accept public funding instead of corporate lobby money.
