- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31This also proves that Abu Gonzales perjured himself when he denied he was sent to discuss wiretapping with Ashcroft.
- greenback1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19What a nasty country we're becoming with these creeps blatantly trashing the rule of law at every turn. It's probably only gonna get worst. So sad.
- shi11, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12we should be wiretapping them
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11And for those who object to rawstory.com - here is the link to the pdf - on the Speaker of the House's own site.
http://www.speaker.gov/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/mueller_notes.pdf - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Heh...the 'cons seem strangely quiet. Frantically trying to figure out how to spin this no doubt.
- cranium, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Our long national nightmare has begun.
- TBagwell, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5of course he did... I don't think anyone doubts that on either "side" of the political spectrum
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Why do neocons hate the USA?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Hm..how about the fact that this proves he perjured himself? Isn't that what you wingnuts go on and on about when talking about Clinton?
- iDragonFly, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well the Senate gave Bush what Ashcroft wouldn't.
How ironic. - obliviousfool, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3At least Mueller took notes. Gonzales should look into taking notes to help him remember things. He seems to have problems with that. Perhaps Gonzales can use Mueller's notes to help him remember things.
- dggeek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3But it's not about a rivalry; to Vicujozobenaxod, it's about opposing everything the democrats do in order to deny any political victory. That is the mission of Vicujozobenaxod, that is the mission of Fox News--the biggest perpetrator of mindf*cking on the internet.
FTFY - Bdog2g2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3by has begun, you meant begun in November 2000?
- FRANKeB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I read the article and I still don't understand how these facts have anything to do with the truth.
- cwac5, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3"So sad"
That attitude is the problem. Everyone is acting like this is a spectator sport. Get out there and let your government representatives know they will not be in office any longer if they don't do something about it. We might as well take advantage of the system while we still can. - miriclaire, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3My mom used to tell me not to fret about injustices because eventually it "will all come out in the wash". Here's to America taking care of their dirty laundry!
- oldhick, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Who cares how he talked to Ashcroft? Its not like Ashcroft was a saint. This stupid witch hunt thats going on is just a show for you Diggers. You can't see the forest for the trees people. The more important issue here is that our freedoms have been taken away. While your beloved congress belows and moans about the administration for show, they continue to support the president in expanding the wire tapping programs.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Right on Lord Slash!
Woodrow Wison was the architect of the dismemberment of our independence.
But Fredo is a peice of work. He doesn't even know when he's lying any more - countdz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm not so good when it comes to law but can't they just get John Ashcroft on the stand and ask him wtf happened? DUH!! We are wasting time and money.
- mishaco, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1finally its out . later we will find that after the arm twisting and balls in a vice Ashcroft passed out and subsequently resigned .
- LordSlashstab55, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1more like 1913
- weebit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This proves there were a few corrupt politicians. They can't deny what was going on if this doesn't get the bunch impeached, then there never will be a impeachment.
- pebcake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ashcroft was no saint when it came to expansive government powers, which makes it all the worse that even he didn't think what they're doing was constitutional and was replaced by Gonzalez for sticking to his principles.
- fbuckwalter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Congress should follow this and investigate it. If need be, when the facts warrant it a prosecutor should be appointed. Hopefully after Bush is out of office and can't pardon anyone that broke the law. This will send a message to future evil doers!
- pleiadianagenda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The spoiled and corrupt elite in this world think nothing of backstabbing and manipulating THEIR OWN KIND. And then people wonder why they ***** all over the rest of us without batting an eye.
- mabhatter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the deal is that Gonzoles would have not only KNOWN about the illegal taps, but tried to seek approval from the then head of his department and been rejected. So he would have been acting KNOWINGLY outside the attorney general's opinion on the law. Going to see Ashcroft prove INTENT.. intent to do something that might be illegal, intent to get it approved, intent to do it even though his then boss disapproved... In short his instance that it was his "bureaucracy" that was overzealous in their jobs would be a total lie.. it proves he was Calling the shots, ordering the breaking of the law. That's a big deal.
One note that the FBI has been quite cautious to use the new "powers" the president seems to be granting. The like getting drug dealers, but they disapproved from the start what the CIA and Homeland security was doing and have already been caught with their "hand in the cookie jar". They've got no reason to protect the prez or the department of justice as the FBI told them this would happen back in 2001. - greenback1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you couldn't have said it better, cwac5, you are an inspiration. I finally decided to get off my ass and stop complaining and do something. It still is our country. I just signed my family up for the big protest in DC on September 15th

thanks patriot - ezstan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Because the Patriotism of the People put a kinker in their plan for the NWO.
A One World Order is not a bad concept if it is for the right reasons, but their reason isn't right.
We can't even drop our petty differences, instead we let them push the separatism.....Divide and Conquer. - Shmu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Wow. When Patriot Act Ashcroft is the 'good guy' on the side of your laws, you've got to realize that you're all *****.
- heystoopid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0But then again , when he was State Attorney General in Texas , he condemned innocent men to death in Texas , as a judge many of his decisions were questionably tainted , so why should he care ?
This man is more slicker and deadlier than an ordinary Texas Rattle Snake and makes an oil slick look like dry sand ! - digbird, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I agree with whoever said above that the Senate ought to call Ashcroft to testify. If he says he felt like Gonzales was trying to take advantage of him, then that's another pebble to add to the pile of things that Gonzales has done wrong. But if Ashcroft says, "it was no big deal" that should end it.
But even if it is true: it isn't a crime. It is certainly not a good thing to do, but you won't find any law prohibiting what Gonzales did on the books. If the House and Senate want to impeach him over it, they should do it (but I doubt they'd get the necessary 2/3 majority) but if they do, this would be a "political crime" as opposed to an actual crime. - MRCOPIATECH, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2There is no sport dirtier than that of politics, regardless of who is in charge!
- BrapAllgood, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Almost precisely my thoughts...I don't hear a fat lady crooning yet, tho....
- countdz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0And athough I tend to agree. I still can't seem to think 'Oh, how convienent'. I mean he has to remember more than Alberto 'I don't recall' Gonzales.
- krnldmp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Because he was barely conscious at the time.
- krnldmp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Gonzales thinks his ***** is funny.
Last time senator Specter cut him off with, “Mr. Attorney General, do you expect us to believe that?", he just chuckled.
Didn't even bother with a "Yes." - countdz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Buried for being hate rearing ass munch. All too many tactics in one diatribe.
- SOULEVENT, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1NOONE is going to escape the ULTIMATE JUDGEMENT!!! I hate the evil in every corner of the world...whether its Bush and Co. destroying democracy, whether its stupid ass liberals who fight so Child Molestors can make computer images of kids getting raped...YOUR ALL ***** STUPID HYPOCRITES!!! We did it to ourselves...WE DESERVE A POLICE STATE...and those who want a police state DESERVE the REVOLUTION that will ensue...NOONE IS GONNA BE SAFE from the CHAOS that is surely coming...me included. Wow, honesty feels good, doesnt it?
- miriclaire, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Good one!
- Vicujozobenaxod, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0They make it sound like they PUT him in the hospital in order to shake Ashcroft down for this.
You'll also notice that it's not even recognized anymore than Democrats turned around and helped greatly expand that which is so demonized by liberals.
Conservatives tend to not mind the wiretap program, liberals do. But it's not about a rivalry; to liberals, it's about opposing everything the administration does in order to deny any political victory. That is the mission of liberals, that is the mission of rawstory--the biggest perpetrator of mindf*cking on the internet.
