- dafragsta, on 08/22/2008, -13/+144Damn! Even Fox News rejected the ad.
- nblsavage, on 08/22/2008, -11/+140Illegal under the McCain-Feingold act. Now thats funny.
- Carv, on 08/22/2008, -17/+57That's great and all, but the experts cited in the article aren't from The Huffington Post. Learn to read.
"...said Laura MacCleery, deputy director of the democracy program at the Brennan Center for Justice"
"Former FEC lawyer Larry Noble agreed that...." - kebinusan, on 08/22/2008, -10/+45Wasnt he eleven in the 60's?
- sylvok, on 08/22/2008, -1/+32When Fox News starts attacking ads like this, you know they are bad
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -30/+60John McCain said he will re-instate the draft.
Then he said he does not know how many multi million dollar homes he own.
Think about what type of reality this old man lives in? He doesn't even know how many homes he owns. - zyklon, on 08/22/2008, -1/+30The very definition of irony if you ask me.
- vanguardanon, on 08/22/2008, -5/+31Raising a stink about an illegal ad will just draw attention to it. It's a tough card to play.
- Dhalsim007, on 08/22/2008, -1/+26Gotta remember though ... this ad is not from the McCain camp, but another 501(c) group. I think McCain would know his own law named after him :-)
Nevertheless, the ad is most likely illegal under the law, and Fox News and other networks were right to deny it. - andy314159pi, on 08/22/2008, -10/+33......DRUNK FRAT BOY DRIVES COUNTRY INTO DITCH
..Some idiots reported to be planning to vote for his protégé
.......................Story on page A3 - nblsavage, on 08/22/2008, -2/+25So, people never change right? So that must mean than Bush is still a coked out alkie right?
- EvilJelloMan, on 08/22/2008, -12/+30So you're saying that anyone who's partisan shouldn't be nonprofit? So basically you're only allowed to be tax-exempt if you have no opinion.
***** brilliant. - nblsavage, on 08/22/2008, -2/+20So let me get this straight, Obama worked on a project with a person who committed crimes decades ago, went to prison, and was released. Dang lock him up.
- ZenMojo, on 08/22/2008, -0/+18They rejected the ad. And then Sean Hannity played it on Hannity & Colmes. Spare me.
- Aurash91, on 08/22/2008, -42/+58he's still a better choice.
- Jack8274, on 08/22/2008, -3/+20Religion on digg and not a article bashing it? My good sir you have the wrong website.
- ColdPetRat, on 08/22/2008, -12/+26http://factcheck.barackobama.com/factcheck/2008/04 ...
- nblsavage, on 08/22/2008, -3/+15The article is from the awful left-wing Christian Science Monitor.
- Maynza, on 08/22/2008, -5/+17Hah, now all the news stations are going to run the ad as a story and talk about all the controversy it stirs.
- infiniphunk, on 08/22/2008, -0/+12If its something they might potentially get sued over, you bet your sweet bippy they'll reject it.
- foolfoolz, on 08/22/2008, -9/+21As bad as thinkprogress is, for every left leaning "non-partisan" website, radio show, magazine... etc. there's one for the right. Both sides understand it's quite easy to get the tax exempt status and use it to spread their ideas cheaply.
- Obermeister, on 08/22/2008, -8/+21I'm sure the Bush justice department will be all over that one....Oh wait.
- MacBigot, on 08/22/2008, -5/+16Not to mention ThinkProgress.org's paid staff SPAMING Digg…a violation of Digg's TOS.
http://digg.com/politics/ThinkProgress_org_is_pwni ... - asciiforever, on 08/22/2008, -7/+18I was about to ask what the real issue was here... and then I noticed your name.
Thanks, at least, for making things easier for us. - nblsavage, on 08/22/2008, -5/+15who cares?
- alex98101, on 08/22/2008, -3/+13there's a lot of stuff on the internet. you actually have to click on it or take the time to post comments for it to waste your time dumbass.
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -11/+21What is funny is that not one of you have argued that it isn't true.
How a commercial is financed is more important to you than the fact that he is "good friends" with an admitted and proud terrorist. Who felt he didnt do enough to bomb police stations, the pentagon, and the capital. And you wonder why people doubt that liberals love this country. - Maynza, on 08/22/2008, -6/+16DEAR GOD NOT A GUN CONTROL SUPPORTER!!!!!!!!
Thanks for putting his middle name in there too, he must be related to SADDAM HUSSEIN :O
Thank you so much for opening my eyes. - PhantomPhoenix, on 08/22/2008, -4/+13OMG...
Fox News actually did something noble by rejecting an illegal conservative attack advertisement.
Something is not right...
Start getting ready for the Apocalypse. - inactive, on 08/22/2008, -3/+11Christians are terrorists.
- FairDinkumMate, on 08/22/2008, -4/+12You still can't get a simple FACT right can you Quad?
You really are ignorant!
I'll give you a hint - Obama was born in 1961, so 11 years after that is (1961 + 11 = 1972)
So, Obama wasn't 11 until 1972, which I think from memory is generally referred to as the SEVENTIES! - ironhide, on 08/22/2008, -1/+9and that has what to do with MrBabyMan?
- Danktolker, on 08/22/2008, -3/+1130 pieces of silver.. oh wait, that was onetimer.
- bdfariello, on 08/22/2008, -0/+7Hannity, dare I say, is a gosh-darned cockbag. He makes O'Reilly seem (almost remotely) watchable.
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -4/+11Look at this YouTube video with McCain agreeing with a woman in the audience that we need a draft [this was Aug. 20th - this week]; I saw this on TV earlier but I don't remember on which program:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVmi_j-UWQY
As the woman in the video said (and McCain agreed), it will take a draft to "chase bin Laden to the gates of hell." I don't see how we can stay in Iraq as long as McCain would like without a draft -- and we shouldn't use a draft to occupy another country. He's way too ready to suggest aggressive military action as a first option in solving problems. - Jordan117, on 08/22/2008, -1/+8Don't be. The smear peddlers are just trying to craft a repulsive image. Just keep in mind that Obama was in freakin' *grade school* when Ayers did the things he did. Just because he happened to be familiar with him as a fellow community leader decades after the fact doesn't mean that Ayers' acts can be tied to Obama in any way. It's stretching the facts to the point of absurdity.
- quandrum, on 08/22/2008, -3/+10And if the terrorists grow up to be a community activist that specializes in the field of helping children in juvenile detention centers?
How long after you commit a crime are you no longer defined by that crime? I say William Ayers should no longer be thought of as a terrorist. The only reason he didn't serve time was because the DA's in his cause screwed up the evidence, resulting in prosecutorial misconduct. I mean the connection that Obama and Ayers has is they both served on board of an anti-poverty non-profit. Hardly the stuff of nightmares of an Obama presidency. - vexingmodstwo, on 08/22/2008, -2/+9Umm.. they were blowing ***** up to try to stop the war.
Does it really have to be spelled out for you? - infiniphunk, on 08/22/2008, -6/+13Christians, just Muslims in sheep's clothing.
- Barackalypse, on 08/22/2008, -11/+17The better question is why was/is Obama friends with a domestic terrorist, a lunatic preacher, and a corrupt real estate developer? Sort of makes you wonder what sort of people would find their way into his cabinet.
- PhantomPhoenix, on 08/22/2008, -7/+13I don't trust any political advertisements that only have two words quoted with a whole bunch of ellipses, and neither should anyone else.
I implore everyone to not pay attention to any advertisement, and just do their own research - like comparing stories from all the news channels and newspapers to get to the unbiased truth. - kebinusan, on 08/22/2008, -0/+6Godwin'd
- Dumbledorito, on 08/22/2008, -2/+8Wait, you're worried about the economy going down the toilet under a strawman idea of a Democrat? After eight years of Bush-Republican ineptitude on a scale that should make even Rush Limbaugh choke on his oxycontin?
Really? Or is this just a knee-jerk reaction? Because if you think tossing tax money at already profitable corporations and flushing billions into the black hole of contractor largesse and military waste called "The War on Terror" are good ideas, I'd hate to see your credit card balances. - inactive, on 08/22/2008, -13/+19Obama could be a paranoid schizophrenic with a history of child molestation and he would still be the better choice.
- coolallison, on 08/22/2008, -0/+6Did you mean to put the apostrophe in the wrong place?
- KSUdesigner, on 08/22/2008, -6/+12They're out protesting Hallmark's new gay wedding cards.
- ozydingo, on 08/22/2008, -5/+11It seems a combination of guilt by association and the false good vs. evil dichotomy. How much do you know about Ayers other than what this ad says? Sure, I have no problem calling Ayers, at least what was it, 40 years ago, a radical. But how exactly do you propose that that reflects on Obama? I have yet to find the full quote of Obama calling Ayers "respectable" and "mainstream," so I have no idea what he was actually saying about him.
It would seem Obama know Ayers from being part of the same anti-poverty group ( http://www.woodsfund.org/ ) between 1999 and 2001. He probably got to know Ayers in this context, seeing him do good deeds and be part of something beneficial and productive. In this sense I would not be surprised to find Obama with a positive outlook on Ayers. Is it all too unbelievable that Ayers, almost 40 years after the events in question, has tamed his radical views and has decided to pursue his undoubtedly modified goals without violence? If this is the Ayers that Obama has gotten to know, is it so shocking that he might have seen him in a more positive light?
But again, I still have not seen the full quote of Obama talking about Ayers, and without that this guilt-by-association has no ground on which to stand. if the quote was "Ayers was a guy who bombed the capitol, but if you think about it that's really mainstream and respectable" then yeah, that's a little worrisome. But somehow I don't think that's it. - storeyy, on 08/22/2008, -1/+7Barack wasn't born until 1961.....
- hellsing47, on 08/22/2008, -0/+6If you meant a draft for a potential WWIII, the first two had drafts as well.
As much as I don't want to see one I doubt Vietnam will be the last military draft for the United States. - MasteRR, on 08/22/2008, -0/+5It all depends on who wins.
