- freedomjoe, on 03/28/2009, -5/+83Gee, this looks like what Blago did, and yet the Republicans are still calling for Coleman to obstruct the democratic process of elections by continuing to file frivolous lawsuits against MN Senate Winner, Al Franken.
Will they call for Coleman to acknowledge defeat and will they call him out on his unethical, illegal dealings? Or, will they do as they usually do and promote Coleman to higher office after claiming partisan attacks by anonymous donors? - novenator, on 03/28/2009, -2/+74This has gone on for long enough. 5 months after the election, the state of Minnesota still only has 1 US Senator. The time has come to restore the state's constitutionally guaranteed right to representation and end the legal delaying tactics by the GOP.
- biotch, on 03/28/2009, -1/+64Im getting sick and tired of Coleman's behavior here... He came out first and suggested Franken was wasting our time by challenging the election... and now that he lost he is taking every opportunity he can to stall Franken's seating. Its almost April for god sakes, let it go.
- GeographyJoe, on 03/28/2009, -5/+60SEAT FRANKEN NOW, 'PUBES. It isn't fair to leave MN with mad-woman Bachmann roving the countryside.
- novenator, on 03/28/2009, -3/+51Do as we say, not as we do.
-Republican motto
For anyone who claims that there is no difference between the parties, here is your direct proof that there is. While Democrats were highly critical of Blago and called for his resignation, the Republicans will put on the blinders and support their puppet regardless of his conduct. Are the American people going to notice this hypocrisy and hold them accountable for it? - Echota, on 03/28/2009, -5/+47Minnesota is in a hellava mess if all they have to represent them is Bachmann.
The state should start a "reveloution" and demand Franken be seated. - freedomjoe, on 03/28/2009, -2/+38EXCELLENT point. We're seeing this all over right now. Palin and her ethics violation and vindictive spying on critics is another example, reminding one of Bush's Plame debacle -- and again, they all do their leader's bidding, never question it, and attack anyone who does. No accountability in the Rep party.
- Ecuno, on 03/29/2009, -1/+37Being from Minnesota, I feel like we are being robbed of a voice in government. Senator Amy Klobuchar is bound to be overwhelmed doing Senator Franken's work while Coleman displays his class of hypocrisy.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -2/+33Come on norm it's time to step down you know Bachmann will still let you carry the republican Nazi flag in the parade.
- woodsjransom, on 03/29/2009, -2/+33Everything with Coleman is starting to stink to the high heavens. The longer he holds out with this election, the more dirt is coming from up UNDER the carpet. Just put the "closed" sign on the campaign office door, disconnect the campaign telephones and faxes already.
- TigerStar337, on 03/29/2009, -3/+32Coleman won the seat because Wellstone died in a plane crash prior to the election. Once Franken is seated, he will be in office a long time. The Republicans in Minnesota are history. People are tired of their BS.
- freedomjoe, on 03/29/2009, -2/+24While he's being investigated by the FBI. The Unmitigated gall of some people.
- freedomjoe, on 03/29/2009, -1/+20LOl. that's a super scary picture you just painted. I see a banner with Bachmann eyes....those crazy eyes.....in the Nationalist's Party color of Red.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+16Amy Klobuchar is our senator.
Michele Bachmann represents some kind of invisible bizarro-realm with no entrances and no exits known as the sixth district, where people perpetually masturbate to closet shrines of Joseph McCarthy and like their elected officials to be as ***** insane as possible. - bkraj, on 03/29/2009, -0/+15I am largely in favor of Al Franken for this seat, but it's almost april. They need to make a decision on this either way immediately. It's deplorable how long this has been going on.
- Cam_86, on 03/29/2009, -0/+14Bachmann is in house of representatives, not the senate... You're right though, ANYTHING to dilute the 'crazy' she brings to DC on behalf of Minnesota, is good.
- bjornski, on 03/29/2009, -0/+13Since MN isn't being properly represented, the fact that we're paying taxes is disgusting.
- freedomjoe, on 03/29/2009, -1/+13God I hope so - can you get rid of Crazy Eyes Bachmann? YOu could just drive her to the nearest mental facility and drop her off. I'm sure they'd know what to do with her. :-) Can't wait till you get Franken.
ps. I was an out of state Tinkelbergger; we'll get her next time. - Phazoni, on 03/29/2009, -0/+12What you're seeing here is how money and power change people and cause them to justify anything. Coleman is losing (lost) his power and will fight to the end in an attempt to retain it.
- jimchap, on 03/29/2009, -2/+14kind of like when Bush stole the POTUS? recounts are good.
We wouldn't be in this mess if we recounted in 2000 - alfreeland, on 03/29/2009, -0/+11My fave part of that article - "Former Senator Norm Coleman."
- bjornski, on 03/29/2009, -1/+12I hope Al keeps Paul Wellstone in mind while traveling.
Fly coach, Al. Stay out of small planes. - freedomjoe, on 03/29/2009, -0/+10I can relate to Geo's vision, because I always picture MN now with Coleman the Criminal stinking up the senate and Crazy Eyes Bachmann representing in the House; I see Bachmann stalking Bush in her heyday while Coleman took millions under the table -- both serving their "god".
Are they giving Alaska a run for its money or what?
Here's to sanity coming back to MN some time soon. - jimchap, on 03/29/2009, -0/+9and likewise yourself. Douchy
- asgardshill, on 03/29/2009, -0/+9How many handles do you HAVE? This is like the 17th one I've seen on the theme of gale force butt wind.
- bjornski, on 03/29/2009, -2/+11"“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.”" -Sinclair Lewis
So so true.... - freedomjoe, on 03/29/2009, -2/+11I'd like to note that what is MORE important than this one incidence is the difference in the party's handling it- from the top on down.
You can see for yourself in this thread all of the apologists for Coleman. They bring up Dems as if somehow that makes what Coleman did OK. They blame the media. They blame a lot of people, but never the person who committed the crime.
They always have a ton of excuses for why this is different. The truth is, it's different because Republicans/conservatives operate on an authoritarian basis whereas the Democrats/liberals operate on a free-thinking basis. Both parties have corruption, however the degrees of corruption are strongly titled toward the Republican party right now. That may be a function of the Republicans having had absolute power for so long.
In any case, the two are not equivalent, and arguing that someone else did something worse is not any kind of rebuttal or response to such abuse of power as Coleman has demonstrated here.
Denial is a powerful tool, as is revisionism. The Republicans have been using both very effectively for a long time. The questions we need to ask ourselves after hearing all of the excuses and attacks which inevitably follow the outing of one of their criminals are: why do we never hear an apology, why do we never hear a party leader call out the offending person, why do we never hear the minions demanding that their supposed values be upheld by their officials, and why is the msm silent, when they attacked Blago and Daschle in a non-stop blitz of guilty before evidence is even reviewed?
The answers to those questions are why this past revolution (election) took place. People are tired of being lied to and of having the powerful never be accountable for their mistakes. To make matters worse, it 's always these criminals who are shoving their "values" down our throats and trying to legislate their morality on to all of us via their religious beliefs, which is a clear violation of the constitution. Hypocrisy is not a family value. - freedomjoe, on 03/29/2009, -1/+9and that poor Republican IT guy who was called to testify against the GOP re Ohio election fraud (they had all of the votes in the state routed through the GOP IT guy's computer before they were counted..which is ODD - 2004) who asked for protection from the Bush DoJ (who laughed at him, after all, they were the people he was going to implicate) and then, the week he's testifying, but hasn't brought evidence forward yet, yup. you guessed it. crashed his small plane.
accidents do seem to favor the republicans. - deathandtaverns, on 03/29/2009, -1/+9I lived in Minnesota for a while and found it to be a wonderfully liberal place compared to my home state of Wisconsin. Your criminal justice system is progressive, cheap and effective, you have great social programs and your schools are great. But what I couldn't understand though is why couldn't a Democrat win a damned election. It was really disheartening to see Pawlenty and Colman get elected. I like you guys, please pick a better governor next time.
- jimchap, on 03/29/2009, -1/+8***** you
- bjornski, on 03/29/2009, -0/+7Our ONLY Senator is Amy.
And she rocks. - inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+7"I didn't know he was the former Senator."
Yeah, that's what happens when your term expires and you don't get re-elected. Until the legal challenges are resolved, neither one of these guys is a senator.
"They should go with the original count or do a re-vote."
Why? Because you don't like the results? The recount was mandated by law and Coleman lost. These trumped-up challenges are just GOP tactics to keep them from having an even weaker minority in the Senate.
"The more time the votes are counted the more incorrect its going to be."
This makes no sense. In fact, it makes the opposite of sense. Explain how careful hand-counting becomes progressively more inaccurate.
- bjornski, on 03/29/2009, -4/+11You mean the tax discrepancies that Al himself made public and fixed up?
Those?
You you realize he doesn't do his own taxes? He overpaid in some places, and not enough in others? It wasn't a malicious act.
Get the ***** over yourself. - ftc08, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6Klobuchar is pretty good though. She makes up for Bachmann's crazy.
And Ellison. Muslim in congress = Instawin against the Islamophobes. - whiledo, on 03/29/2009, -1/+7Bachmann is a representative, not a senator. Their other senator is Amy Klobuchar (D).
- novenator, on 03/29/2009, -1/+6incorrect. Franken and the DFL indeed wanted every valid ballot counted, which has been done in an open, transparent air (most of it recorded). The ballots that BOTH parties rejected were dismissed, but now that the results do not favor Coleman, his lawyers suddenly want to use specific ballots from heavy Republican districts only.
- AgeofMastery, on 03/29/2009, -2/+7OMG! Our candidate lost the election, so we have to ignore the results and do it again!
That's how they do it in third world dictatorships, so maybe you would be happier if you moved to one. - paulringo, on 03/29/2009, -4/+9Then they would be asked to come back and make their argument once they learned how to spell "Revolution"
- novenator, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4give him another chance. He will be your Senator for 5.5 of his remaining 6 year term.
- novenator, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4Agreed, but don't jump into a Tea Bag Party over this!
- novenator, on 03/29/2009, -1/+5Although there is not ample evidence to say this is fact, there has been quite a pattern established.
Suspicious Deaths of Those Who Knew Too Much Under Bush`s Watch: http://mathaba.net/news/?x=616455 - whiledo, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4"Fly coach, Al. Stay out of small planes."
Not a whole lot of 757s headed to Eveleth, MN. Or even Duluth. Politicians travel so much during campaigns that small planes are a necessity, especially in a campaign season. He was headed to a funeral in Eveleth and had to be back in Duluth to debate Coleman. - novenator, on 03/29/2009, -0/+3Norm Coleman once asked Franken to concede despite state law that required a recount, to save the expense of one. Don't you find it just the least bit hypocritical that now he want's a new election (against state law and would require an amendment to the constitution), which would cost 100x what the recount did?
IR party = flaming hypocrites - whiledo, on 03/29/2009, -0/+3I live in MN and am middle class and do not feel that I'm paying high taxes at all.
Banks moving to SD has little to do with MN and everything to do with SD. It's not about taxes but banking regulations. Banks cannot charge a higher interest rate than what is allowed in their "home" state. SD is one of the few states with NO usury limits. That #1 reason combined with other lax banking regulation in SD draws banks there.
I assume one of the two big banks you're talking about is TCF, right? Do you know what it means that they will be "leaving" MN? It means they will be opening an office in Sioux Falls with a skeleton crew and not change anything else in MN and the other states it operates in.
http://www.istockanalyst.com/article/viewiStockNew ...
"The bank will hire 10 to 15 people to work at its South Dakota branch and headquarters, but TCF Financial's Minnesota work force of about 3,000 people will remain, he said."
http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/ ...
"TCF's CEO Bill Cooper has long made it clear he doesn't like Minnesota's taxes. But Keith Getschel, with the Minnesota Revenue Department, said his analysis of the TCF move shows it will have a minimal impact on the company's corporate franchise tax payments to the state."
I'm not sure what other bank you're referring to, since you're acting like this is current. Wells Fargo "moved" a while back for the same reasons.
So, should MN and every other state have lax banking regulations? I think a couple of years ago you might have gotten away with claiming "yes." Hopefully, you've learned your lesson. - shallwedave, on 03/29/2009, -4/+7is "sheesh" a word?
- novenator, on 03/29/2009, -0/+3This is the second spammer advertising crap on this thread.
- novenator, on 03/29/2009, -0/+3Ya know, it's funny you say that considering the business environment is very well off in Minnesota, the state has some of the best maintained roads in the nation despite the most wicked freeze/thaw cycle in the nation, some of the best schools, health care, etc., not to mention a median income much higher than the national average. If your premise were correct that the slightly higher taxes were so bad, wouldn't MN look more like Alabama?
- pintomp3, on 03/29/2009, -1/+4I guess they all can't be religious fundamentalists.
- novenator, on 03/30/2009, -0/+2actually, the opposite is true. Also, remember that Coleman wanted to nix the recount because he said it would be too expensive, now he wants to spend 40 million on a new election because he lost.
- inactive, on 03/31/2009, -0/+2But you know how trolling works, don't you?
