What can I say? I can only apologize and promise to help elect a President that will follow the Constitution. - ChristPissed, on 12/06/2007, -2/+53This is "War Crimes", start the tribunal and build a gallows ( for the neoCons, not this innocent man )
- Fedaykin311, on 12/06/2007, -1/+47' "USA considers Kurnaz's innocence to be proven" and that he would be released in six weeks '
What the *****? There are two huge problems with this sentence.
1.) Since when did we go from "innocent until proven guilty" to "guilty until poroven innocent"
2.) If it has been determined that he is innocent, then WHY THE ***** DON'T THE RELEASE HIM IMMEDIATELY! - inactive, on 12/06/2007, -2/+47It is amazing and heart breaking that this is allowed to happen.
- Jimmyb207, on 12/06/2007, -5/+44The Bush Administration has turn America into a monster. These are the war crimes that this country once had too good a heart and soul to commit. This government has become everything I despise.
- Calann, on 12/06/2007, -1/+30How can the life of such a man
Be in the palm of some fool's hand?
To see him obviously framed
Couldn't help but make me feel ashamed to live in a land
Where justice is a game.
-Bob Dylan, Hurricane - DeadElephantORG, on 12/06/2007, -2/+28Freedom! ...to jail anybody
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -1/+23Looks like "the sanctity of life" doesn't mean anything to these guys unless you're still in the womb.
- robberry, on 12/06/2007, -1/+23If you have proof that he is a terrorist, then you have a moral and legal obligation to show your evidence to the authorities so that they can prevent a terrorist from being released. And if you *don't* have proof that he is a terrorist-- as is more likely the case-- then you have a moral and legal obligation to shut the hell up. Morally, because it's wrong to accuse somebody of a crime when there's no evidence linking him to the crime. Legally, because if he's not a terrorist, you are commiting libel by claiming that he is.
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -4/+26What!? The Bush administration ignored evidence?
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -3/+25It leaves you speechless that nazi-type techniques are used so openly.
ps. ***** Godwin's law. - luckykpolice, on 12/06/2007, -3/+22Jeez. He's proven innocent and then detained for a further 6 - 8 weeks?
- zengonzo, on 12/06/2007, -1/+19And further confounding that anyone would argue against universal habeas corpus.
Humans are humans. - Gunite, on 12/06/2007, -0/+18If you voted for Bush (the 2nd time around) you share responsibility.
- Calann, on 12/06/2007, -2/+18We need to elect a President who will follow the law and get rid of the criminals in the White House.
- Bukowsky, on 12/06/2007, -2/+16thats so sad.... 4 years, for what?
- rhedwolf, on 12/06/2007, -1/+13Gitmo needs to be disbanded. Those responsible for the creation of Gitmo need to be convicted of war crimes. Those responsible for the unlawful imprisonment of men like Kurnaz also need to be convicted of war crimes. And there need to be laws ensuring that this never happens again.
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -3/+14Guilty until proven innocent. The new law.
- dagamer34, on 12/06/2007, -1/+12Times like this I'm ashamed to be American. And Romney wants to DOUBLE Guantanamo. BS!
- firekrakcer, on 12/06/2007, -1/+11Well put robberry.
This is why there is a court system, so evidence can be presented.
I am waiting to see Idevlnull's evidence backing his comment (I have a feeling this could be a while). - DSai, on 12/06/2007, -0/+10We won't be seeing the current administration being hauled off to the Hague anytime soon. The US doesn't recognize the International Criminal Court's authority putting us outside their jurisdiction, unfortunately.
- Destardi, on 12/06/2007, -1/+10These are the facts:
1. The Iraqi Constitution only limits the power of the Iraqi government to take away the rights of citizens of the Iraq.
2. If you are not an Iraqi citizen, you have no rights.
3. If you are Christian and not an Iraqi citizen, you are guilty of terrorism.
4. Neoconservatives on Digg are traitors and should move to communist China where Bush borrowed all those billions from against future taxpayers' money while cutting taxes to fund an illegitimate war which is no longer a war because there's no standing army and you can't swing hammers at ants and be effective.
People like you scare me; if you had been alive during the Boston Tea Party, you'd have been exactly one of the Monarch's loyalists..and would have called the liberals who threw the tea into the Harbor...traitors to the Motherland.
You disgust me... - pyper, on 12/06/2007, -1/+11Ron Paul would think you were an Idiot for having to refer to others as "*****" to make a point
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -6/+16All you Bush apologist ***** --- where are you? Why are you not posting? Still think Ron Paul is an idiot?
- zengonzo, on 12/06/2007, -2/+11For shipping and handling?
- Waiting2awake, on 12/06/2007, -1/+10You need to punish the guy that did this, and his accomplices, to the absolute fullest extent of international Law. If that doesn't happen - expect things to get much worse before they get better.
- oslointhesummer, on 12/06/2007, -1/+10No, he's proven innocent and detained a further FOUR YEARS, that was back in 2002.
- toddcat, on 12/06/2007, -3/+12The Bush administration ***** on human rights? I'm shocked. SHOCKED.
- amoro99, on 12/06/2007, -1/+10Fact: detaining everyone would eliminate crime.
- quaxon, on 12/06/2007, -4/+12if we dont keep these secret prisons full we will seem like we are soft on crime and the extravagant amount of money we are spending on this ***** will seem like a waste!!! don't you guys get it?
- pyper, on 12/06/2007, -2/+10Please do not confuse "German" with "Nazi" as I think you intended.
- Rahodeb, on 12/06/2007, -1/+9"These are the war crimes that this country once had too good a heart and soul to commit"
Nevermind locking up innocent Japanese-Americans in camps during WWII. - Destardi, on 12/06/2007, -5/+12To LivFreeorDie:

You disgust me... - pyper, on 12/06/2007, -0/+7What's your point? People should not be jailed for what they MAY do but for crimes which they have already committed.
- robberry, on 12/06/2007, -1/+8Good point. Let's keep this innocent German man in jail because somebody else with no connection to him turned out to be a terrorist. Apparently we've gone from "innocent until proven guilty", to "guilty until proven innocent", to "guilty until proven innocent, unless somebody else is proven guilty, in which case you're still guilty."
- amoro99, on 12/06/2007, -0/+6>>Quit your crying...this German guy wasn't in Afghanistan as a tourist.
source? - toddcat, on 12/06/2007, -1/+7That's it. Like the ol' saying goes, small government conservatives will protect life at the beginning and end of life, but in the middle, you're on your own.
- MadN, on 12/06/2007, -1/+7"In regard to Kurnaz, a German intelligence officer reported on Sept. 26, 2002, that "USA considers Murat Kurnaz's innocence to be proven" and that he would be released in six weeks to eight weeks."
It takes that long to recover from a lobotomy? - dagamer34, on 12/06/2007, -0/+6I'm pretty sure we're closing in on that number in Iraq. Maybe Bush wants to invade Iran to definitely reach our goal before he leaves (or we kick him out).
- Phrag, on 12/06/2007, -1/+6Thanks for showing how little you know about this case. Murat Kurnaz was arrested in Pakistan, not Afghanistan.
- amoro99, on 12/06/2007, -1/+6Less than America's sentence (7 years and counting)
- Phrag, on 12/06/2007, -0/+5Yes, they had evidence that he flew to Pakistan with a man who later became a suicide bomber. The problem is that the suspected suicide bomber is still alive and never flew to Pakistan with him.
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -1/+6it's not that hard...we shut down plenty of bases after the cold war.
- rarson, on 12/06/2007, -0/+5So it's worse if they do it to their own people?
- TheZorch, on 12/06/2007, -0/+5I find it sad that the US government thinks that somehow has the right to do whatever it wants with the citizens of other countries, thinks it can ignore international law, and thinks it can enforce US law within the boarders of other nations. There are those who won't believe that the US could fall. That's what the Roman's thought long ago, and look what happened then. No nation is too big and powerful to fall, and if we allow our government to keep following the same course that is exactly what will happen. History is repeating itself and Bush is out Nero.
- boombye, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4Are you ***** stupid, do you know how many kids are getting their limbs blown off by mines placed underground in the 80s? Both the troops and volunteer workers are there right now working on that. Even a couple doctors I read about went there to risk their lives and try to help remove the mines that still litter the country. Someone have a genuine heartfelt interest in wanting to help people that need it. So why don't you get the clue and learn what's really going on there before you act like it's the same situation as Iraq or something.
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4The U.S. Supreme Court disagrees with you.
- g30ph, on 12/06/2007, -2/+6Unless you mean that we are like the German people who didn't prevent the Nazis from coming to power.
- firekrakcer, on 12/06/2007, -1/+5From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presumption_of_guilt :
"in many authoritarian regimes the prosecution case is, in practice, believed by default unless the accused can prove they are innocent, a practice called presumption of guilt. Many people believe that presumption of guilt is unfair and even immoral because it allows the strategic targeting of any individual, since it's often difficult to firmly establish proof of innocence (for example, it's often impossible to establish an alibi if the person is home alone at the time of the crime)."
Authoritarianism isn't really new, dictatorships and communism would fall in that category. - r00tus3r, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4Note to self: NEVER visit America.
