- FRANKeB, on 10/10/2007, -19/+243The Pope didn't molest the boys. Bush isn't in the article. Buried for being lame and inaccurate. Many catholic priests and George Bush happen to be douchebags but let's not accuse people of things they haven't done please.
- Apokalyps2547, on 10/10/2007, -10/+207Bush isn't in the article.
At all. - SUPERnova007, on 10/10/2007, -7/+117um, all popes have been granted diplomatic immunity.
- Winters, on 10/10/2007, -12/+77Grow out his hair and stay unemployed.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+60Jesus wasn't unemployed, He was a carpenter
- NinjaBoy, on 10/10/2007, -7/+49Get nailed to a cross and die?
- IMADV8, on 10/10/2007, -13/+52He'd most likely point out that Catholicism embodies none of God's values and for the most part doesn't follow any of his teachings. Instead, they rely on mindless ritual and "tradition of man" to guide them. They're remarkably similar to the corrupt religious officials of his day, really.
- brstilson, on 10/10/2007, -3/+39Heck, if I could make food out of rocks I'd probably do the same thing
- jackyyll, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37You hit the nail right on the head.
- tehWyman, on 08/19/2009, -12/+44EPIC FAIL
- bagelpirate, on 10/10/2007, -3/+34Probably not bang little kids.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+36george bush is protestant, the pope has nothing to do with his religion
- compgeek, on 10/10/2007, -8/+36buried as inaccurate this has nothing at all to do with bush
- LMControl, on 10/10/2007, -5/+31Another classic Digg submission makes the front page..... I doubt the OP even read the original artcle.... he just made it up so as to bash Bush. Digg is fast becoming a joke .... if it already isn't one.
- Propapanda, on 10/10/2007, -6/+30The submitter saw an opportunity to combine Bush-bashing with Pope-bashing. The front page of digg was pretty much guaranteed and that's much more important than 'facts' or 'truth.' Who cares if the submission is accurate if it ensures you a front-page spot?
- Disfnord, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27That's not funny, my brother died that way.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+29Digg is a joke unless you're a psychotically left leaning conspiracy theorist
- disco5896, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24God only knows...
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -6/+27The same thing Elvis did, make everyone think he was dead.
- empiric, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21As the article states, this is basically an issue of diplomatic immunity. The U.S. does not have jurisdiction with respect to another head of State. Odd that the submitter seems to have no issue with that legal precept in general, only insofar as there's an opportunity to troll Christianity. Let's see... what might motivate someone to state the blatantly inaccurate in a rabid attempt to attack a group by any means, even if it costs their own credibility? Oh, yes... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_projection ... There we go.
- canewediggit, on 10/10/2007, -9/+28smoke weed everyday
- Salgat, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22The U.S. Justice Department has told a Texas court that a lawsuit accusing Pope Benedict XVI (search) of conspiring to cover up the sexual molestation of three boys by a seminarian should be dismissed because the pontiff enjoys immunity as head of state of the Holy See.
Assistant U.S. Attorney General Peter Keisler said in Monday's filing that allowing the lawsuit to proceed would be "incompatible with the United States' foreign policy interests."
Very inaccurate. - maz2331, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17You do know that Vatican City is actually an independant nation physically located within Rome, with full-blown diplomatic recognition and a small army, and the Pope is legally a head of state. IIRC they also have their own justice system, Lawsuits against foriegn governments are routinely thrown out of Federal Courts if the foriegn state refuses jurisdiction anyway. It may well be a case where the claim would have to be made in the Vatican courts instead (good luck suing the Pope THERE!).
You can sue the local priests, bishops, archbishops, and cardinals. They are in the USA and subject to jurisdiction, but the foriegn entity isn't. - arsheroica, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21I only wish there were more ways I could bury your story.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21Evangelical youth counselors molest as many or more kids as priests do. The only difference is, it doesn't get past the local paper. Every time a priest does it, it gets blamed on the freaking pope and they sue the vatican because it's centralized power and money.
- finalcloud33, on 10/10/2007, -7/+23Who ever posted this is a ***** retard! You have wasted my time.....
- geocator, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17The Vatican has long been considered a state. They have diplomatic ties, including embassies around the world, and many nations have embassies in Vatican City. They have a full government and Vatican City is considered its own nation apart from Italy.
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Tell that to televangelists. They usually have quite "prophetable" careers.
- Maggette, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Everyone: Look up the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act for a clearer understanding of what is going on (and why submissions like this need to be buried).
- kurtwinter, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18New Pope sucks. I miss Pope Classic.
- jstohler, on 10/10/2007, -14/+28Fine, here's an article that specifically mention how the Pope's lawyers asked Bush personally for the immunity: http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/pope-seeks-immunity-over-sex-abuse-suit/2005/08/17/1123958097061.html
And Ratzinger was a defendant in the suit because he conspired to cover up the crimes in the 90s. Which means he committed the crimes before he was Pope, and therefore doesn't get to claim immunity just for being Pope. - jeremymccurdy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14"And for my next trick, I'll turn water into a tool shed."
- williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -6/+19He would say "Who the ***** is Saul, and why is he using MY trademark on his church?"
Jesus never founded a religion. - fluoro, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15He was a carpenter prior to his career as a prophet.
- neodorian, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15They didn't have message boards then so flaming was kept to a minimum.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+141) Bush isn't Catholic, he's a born-again Christian (one of the protestant).
2) This article doesn't mention Bush.
3) You far left people are getting out of hand with your propaganda. - jackyyll, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Man, i wish dig would implement a 'reply to this comment' button. I swear, it would be ***** AMAZING.
- JAVandiver, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Maybe you should read the entire article and see that it is a matter of procedural law about filing charges against a head of state. Also, it has absolutely nothing to do with President Bush. In fact the word "Bush" is not in the article at all.
- Kanaka, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14Sigh...this is soo inaccurate you should be slapped with a libel lawsuit and be hired by Fox News.
- kevnliu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The one institution which has the most child molesting leaders... PUBLIC EDUCATION.
Raise your hands if you know of a teacher who had sex or molested a kid. - Binarydemon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8While Bush bashing is good fun, even if everything the Digg poster alleges is completely true - just ask yourself what National Leader wouldn't grant the Pope immunity from similar lawsuits. I would bet very few.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This state: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatican_City
- sylance, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14Weird that Bush could pardon the Pope when the Pope is in Vatican City, which is it's own sovereign state. If you're going to Bush bash... at least educate yourself a bit and post something logical. Buried...
- SoupNazzi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Inaccurate. Buried.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Ever since the Middle Ages it has been it's own country. At one point it even had it's own army and controlled Europe.
- Apokalyps2547, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8The Holy See aka the Vatican is its own country. It's the size of Central Park and surrounded by the city of Rome.
- cawpin, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12Actually, they did. It was a literal "board", a cross, and the message was "Don't do that, we don't like it."
- jedikv, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Thats the Digg system
- JAVandiver, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Did you even read the article?
