- freedomjoe, on 10/15/2008, -26/+288Gee...should I vote how Hannity tells me to vote, based on "some people say" bull crap...Or should I go with the brightest minds in the world? Gee, do you think these brightest minds have heard about ACORN? The evil acorn? the Acorn that helps poor people? I asked them and they told me they are too busy fighting GOP election fraud to bother with voter registration (not voter fraud) problems which were already identified by Acorn.
Yeah, I'll go with "That One", because I want the smartest person in the room. That is American. - DonnyBahama, on 10/15/2008, -34/+261My Mom is fond of saying, "I don't see how anyone with half a brain could support McCain and Palin." It occurs to me that it's probably the ONLY way someone could. Obviously, people with a WHOLE brain support Obama.
- JenniferInMO, on 10/15/2008, -9/+213Do you refer to everyone smarter than you as an "elitist"? It must suck to be of average intelligence, ashamed of it and afraid of everyone smarter than you.
- RuinousRight, on 10/15/2008, -17/+172Great find! This links to the actual letter (PDF).

/Idiocracy - ErickStevenson, on 10/15/2008, -8/+115Why do we need someone smart? That is too elitist! We need someone who can relate with the average idiot in America! Someone just smart enough that they can tie their shoes! Vote for Palin/McCain 08!
- treehugger87, on 10/15/2008, -5/+78Yeah, don't let those peace-mongering elitist tools who win awards tell you what to do. Awards are for sissies. *Real* American voters know that it's all about being a maverick. The maverickier the better.
/Right Wing Propaganda
p.s. Blinker, when Arafat, Rabin and Peres jointly won the Nobel peace prize in 1994, it seemed that the three had finally brokered a real peace in the middle east. Arafat had committed himself and his country to recognize Israel's right to exist, guarantee Israel's safety and security within defensible borders, and to participate in peaceful negotiations. This sadly did not come to pass, but it certainly does not make the entire process of awarding Nobel prizes "a joke." - sapphire9488, on 10/15/2008, -14/+85Damn elitists!

http://digg.com/business_finance/Krugman_In_Wonder ... - tomz17, on 10/15/2008, -2/+64"That one" got a college degree from columbia and a law degree from Harvard Law.
I don't need to see his academic records, because :
- Columbia is one of the best colleges in the country. You have to be well above exceptional to meet their graduation requirements.
- Harvard Law does NOT dick around. It is widely considered to be the BEST law school on the planet and is absurdly selective (even among minority candidates). From wikipedia : for the class beginning in 2007-2008, 11.7% of 6984 applicants were admitted, and 67.9% of those admitted enrolled. The median half of the class that entered in 2007 had a GPA between 3.75 and 3.95 (out of 4.00) and an LSAT score between 170 and 175 (out of 180).
As someone who knows a few Nobel Laureates, has gotten accepted into grad programs in Ivy League schools, had a 3.95 GPA over two science majors undergrad, and has actually helped some pretty smart friends study for the LSAT I can ASSURE you that getting between a 170 and 175 on the LSAT is stupid crazy hard!
--and-- before you try to pull the Affirmitive Action BS. Once he was there, he was ELECTED as president of the Harvard Law Review. That means most people in one of the best damn schools thought he had the chops and smarts to preside over one of the most prestigious law journals on the planet.
Based on these facts, I don't need to see his undergrad record. Harvard already reviewed it, and if he was admitted, I guarantee you that his undergrad record was spotless. His performance in grad school is fully consistent with this fact.
Furthermore, he was a Constitutional Law Professor and lecturer for 12 years at Chicago University (making senior lecturer after 4 years). That is also not the easiest job in the world to get (it is actually pretty difficult to get a faculty position in his field). SO a university search committee deemed his credentials to be exceptional (even among Harvard grads).
In either case, this is an academic discussion. He is running against McCain and the village idiot! McCain graduated at the BOTTOM of his class (894 out of 899) at the US Naval Academy. I have actually TA'd graduates from Westpoint and USNA. I'm going to be nice, and just say that it is not comparable to Columbia or Harvard. I'm not even going to touch Palin's academic career with a stick. Just listen to her talk. - JenniferInMO, on 10/15/2008, -5/+64don't forget that beer test. Gotta be able to have a beer with a President.
- cowboytrumpet, on 10/15/2008, -22/+78But McCain is endorsed by the NRA, and they have a combined IQ of at least two of those guys.

Obama for America
P.O. Box 8102
Chicago, IL 60680 - bartpieters, on 10/15/2008, -15/+59The nail in Obama's coffin, I'm sure. The elite intellectuals support him: this means he is a dirty rotten elitist intellectual..... *wink*
- donsnyc, on 10/15/2008, -11/+54But these Nobel Laureates are elitists!
/sarcasm. - manicleek, on 10/15/2008, -3/+40Judging by their comments, I would have thought Blinker and thcobbs would consider those of even average intelligence to be elitist
- Refluence, on 10/15/2008, -0/+35Your *****'s all retarded.
- DeviantDragon, on 10/15/2008, -22/+57So 2 Chemistry Nobel Laureates and 1 Physics Nobel Laureate in 2008 becomes every single 2008 Noble Laureate?
- Hota, on 10/15/2008, -4/+39Agreed. I like the way Palin winks at me so she's got my vote!
- GawtMilk, on 10/15/2008, -4/+38This is only based on the scientific Nobel Laureates. A Nobel Laureate is someone who is awarded for either Peace, Literature, Chemistry, Medicine / Physiology, Physics and Economics. How can it say "every single 2008 Nobel Laureate", when it lacks the Literature, Peace and Economist's signatures?
I know that the 2008 Economist also supports Obama. However, this letter is based solely on scientific reasons: "The government's scientific advisory process has been distorted by political considerations". I don't think that's the case with McCain. He supports federal funding of stem cells, he doesn't deny climate change, etc.
Regardless of the politics of the article, this article's title is inaccurate. Not every 2008 Laureate endorses Obama [at least in this letter]. Not only that, but the reason they support is Obama is because "he's not Bush". Neither is John McCain, at least in terms of his viewpoint on science. - will2000, on 10/15/2008, -4/+37oh yeah. he obviously meant all the geniuses in america minus you, offrdbandit, the smartest of them all. just kidding, you are a tool.
- tcquad, on 10/15/2008, -2/+33A correction to the title: "Almost Every 2008 American Nobel Laureate Endorses Obama in Letter".
Nambu in Physics along with the two American GFP guys signed the letter. The people from other countries (French in medicine and literature, Peace to the former Finnish President along with the Americans' collaborators) obviously didn't sign. Krugman (Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences) also didn't sign the letter and I have yet to see a formal endorsement of Obama from him. - trouserslacks, on 10/15/2008, -2/+31Yea... what's with that? how about "3 2008 US Nobel Laureate winners endorse Obama plus many past Nobel Laureates" for a title. Krugman isn't even signed on to this.
Come on people. I know you get all tingly when your digg story hits the front page... but let's at least try to be accurate. - ontain, on 10/15/2008, -0/+28you don't get the be the president of the Harvard Law review without being smart :P
- 5celery, on 10/15/2008, -4/+32It's really nice of you to not blame Obama like that, you seem like a swell guy.
- peruvianidol, on 10/15/2008, -0/+26Go away! I'm baitin'!
- johnsna2, on 10/15/2008, -0/+26Obama graduated magna cum laude from Harvard...I think his presumed intelligence stems moreso from that his ability to read a teleprompter.
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -1/+25Yeah, like being an old fascist dumb ***** who barely graduated.
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -2/+26@thcobbs
You fail again.
Don't you get sick of that?
No one even MENTIONED Obama till you came in crying to JenniferinMO.
Gee, looks like someone is sensitive because they've been calling Obama an elitist.
An no, pathetic right wing shill, it's NOT a cogent point.
His moronic rightard "point" was that because Arafat has won a Nobel, and because rightards don't like Arafat, that it makes the endorsement of smart people irrelevant.
I guess that's the kind of stupidity that has come to symbolize the right wing extremists like you.
And you finally realized that your unfounded sense of superiority is elitism?
You finally figured out that cheerleading for lies and corruption and still thinking you are a "good" person is a delusion? - EarlOfLade, on 10/15/2008, -3/+27As much as I like to hope that the voters are smart enough to elect Obama, I am not so sure. Here are some comments that shows the level of intelligence these people have and they are all taken from the front page of Fundies Say The Darndest Thing, http://www.fstdt.com
"1.) My uncle is not a monkey.
2.) Scientist can't answer "where did that come from" to the minimalist thing they can think of.
3.) Humans created science, and evolution.
4.) I think if the world was billions of years old, we'd be a little bit more technologically advanced. My grandma didn't even have colored television, but look what we have now.
5.) The world in which we live in takes a genius, artist, supernatural being...not a rock that exploded."
or
"I believe that he may use his well known Gestapo tactics to shut down Bible believing churches who speak out against homosexuality. He will make teaching creationism or intelligent design illegal in schools. He will probably make home-school illegal. He will probably make pro-Life organizations very difficult. Take tax exempt status from Churches who preach Jesus is the ONLY way. If You thought the Clintons had thugs in their administration, just wait till Obama's folks take over. They will make the Clinton gang look like saints!
Don't laugh at this scenario - Hussein's associates and friends are terrorist, wackos and thugs - ACORN, Bill ayers, Saul Alinksy (wrote a book dedicated to Lucifer) , Jesse High Jackson, Bill Mahre, Oprah Goddess Winfred, all of Hollowood, jeremiah Wright, Hammas, the list goes on! The facts speak for themselves and are easily verifiable.
The sad thing is most Americans are ignorant and can't connect the dots. "
or
"Wake up America! When you put that muslim idiot in the white house this is all we will ever hear. You people are allowing this devil in and he will take over. Once a muslim always a muslim. women get ready for your vails and I hope all the men like wearing turbins and robes. America is going to hell in a hand basket. Don't let Obama in the white house..."
Links to the original comments so you can see the context and read the equally ***** crazy comments, are found with the comments.
And there are quite a few with similar stupid ideas and these people can't even spell "Nobel Prize" - rowjimmy, on 10/15/2008, -3/+26and kissinger won a peace prize. again, a ***** joke. that doesn't mean the entire nobel establishment is *****, but simply that sometimes they allow politics to overwhelm common sense. and seriously - "elitism at its worst" because intelligent people support the more intelligent candidate? jesus ***** christ, this country is digging its own sub-mongoloid grave - good luck competing in a globalized economy when english speaking countries like india are better educated, more motivated, aren't proud to be stupid, and value lifting themselves out of ignorance. no matter what sean hannity has told you, intelligence is a great thing. even better is the will to learn. i would say you should read up on Hegel's "self-unfolding of the Concept" but i have a feeling you'd consider that "elitist" and go back to drinking your bud lite.
- billybillyboy, on 10/15/2008, -1/+24I am amazed at how far America has come. Can you imagine 5 or 10 years ago a black man being labeled elite? We are truly in an age of progress.
- minorgods, on 10/15/2008, -0/+22Hows come you got no tattoo?
- tdclark23, on 10/15/2008, -2/+23McCain may not be anti-science like Bush, but his choice of VP is against science, wanting to teach Creationism in the classroom, abstinence-only sex education, proclaiming global warming isn't man-made and I suspect she is anti-stem cell research, although I haven't heard her say so. I just know that is the so-called Right To Life viewpoint which she appears to stick to.
McCain can't claim a pro-science stance after choosing Palin as his VP.
I agree with you that this doesn't appear to have all the Nobel Laureates as signatories. - phauwn, on 10/15/2008, -0/+21Cobbs, but when Republicans refer to Obama or Biden as elitist it seems to be either backwards or to have everything to do with intelligence. Obama and Biden come from middle class backgrounds and had to work hard to get where they are. Bush came from one of the wealthiest families in the country, skated through Harvard with a C average..... McCain lives off his sugar momma.
Labeling people and organizations as elitist when they are both smart, and on the other side is just the republican's favorite new political stunt. - playingbass, on 10/15/2008, -29/+49Buried as innacurate.
That is not EVERY SINGLE laureate.
Only a handful.
Lemmings. - ByrcheWroot, on 10/15/2008, -0/+20"There's a lot more to quality leadership than brains."
BRAINS!
Zombie McCain 08 - repmekevets, on 10/15/2008, -0/+19Barack Obama was the President of the Hardvard Law Review. I won't be surprised if you have to look that up on wikipedia, so I've decided to help you out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvard_law_review
Let's just take the first line, shall we? "The Review is one of the most cited law reviews in the United States and considered by many to be the most prestigious."
Also, he write the majority of his speeches, and certainly all the really important ones. It's more than the ability to read the teleprompter (which displays the words he himself has written) it is his ability to unite people and lead them. - nysus, on 10/15/2008, -7/+26Yeah, all them damn liberals using "facts" and "education," and also. There problum is they can't do thinkin' from the GUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- fluxion, on 10/15/2008, -0/+18not sure if you've been paying attention, but seeing as Obama has won both debates so far the teleprompter argument no longer works.
and just in case you're not aware, magna cum laude is generally reserved for the top 10% of the graduating class, with a minimum GPA cut-off around 3.8
a far cry from that intelligent guy of yours who graduated in the bottom 1% of his class.
of course, it may be that mccain is indeed intelligent, but was just too lazy to get-r-done. either way, thats not a good character trait for a president. - Opiate, on 10/15/2008, -38/+57Globalist socialists endorse a globalist socialist, this is news?
