Yes, Obama is still ahead in most national polls. Yes, he is still ahead in most of the toss-ups where he needs to win. But there are some conflicting polls coming out of FL, PA, OH and NC, where McCain is either closing or leading.
It's not over, and it's still very, very close.
GOTV! Vote early! Don't coast!
Obama/Biden 2008 - SheilaNoya, on 10/25/2008, -3/+189The funniest part of this story is that McCain paid Sarah Palin's makeup artist more than his economic and foreign policy advisors.
I guess he thought her looks were more important than coming up with any solutions to the problems we face. - Autodidaddict, on 10/25/2008, -3/+132"Palin said the wardrobe controversy was fueled by gender bias."
Playing the reverse sexism card? Nice..... The republicans nailed Edwards to the cross about his 400 dollar haircut he paid WITH HIS OWN MONEY. He ain't the only lawyer in the country who has gotten a 400 dollar haircut. Palin isn't a victim of sexism. She's her own victim of HYPOCRISY. And Americans hate hypocrites. She claims to be an "everyday woman", "joe sixpack", "I sit at my dining room table and worry about the economy and bills just like you do" type of citizen. Then she wears 3 thousand dollar suits and spends tends of thousands of dollars? And donating the outfits to charity at the end? The tens of thousands spent on hair and makeup cannot be donated. And she's the one that made the "pitbull in lipstick" comment. Even if pitbulls did wear lipstick, I doubt they'd be spending 3400 on it.
The issue isn't with the money itself. It's not taxpayers dollars. Let the Republican party spend their donations and fundraising contributions how they want. It's the inconsistency of the message. And that's why Palin and McCain are both getting raped this cycle. Obama is consistent. So damn consistent. - avataros, on 10/25/2008, -3/+93Will Palin overtake Bush in unfavorable by election day? Lookin' to take bets....
- pintomp3, on 10/25/2008, -2/+57it's a trivial and superficial issue, but it dismantles their superficial facade of representing the common man. much like with bush, they think being dumb alone means you are in touch with the "joe six-pack". it makes it hard to scream about joe the plumber when you are living it up on donations.
- digitalagent, on 10/25/2008, -3/+57Sick of the ***** line about tax hikes and spreading the wealth=socialism. Seriously, McCain will raise your taxes if you have employer healthcare. He will then spread that wealth to those who can’t afford healthcare. McCain is covered by a socialist healthcare system entirely financed by the U.S. taxpayer. Can you imagine paying taxes on your own freaking healthcare? Obama will LOWER your taxes if you make less than 200K for individuals and 250K if you have a family. How much of this crap do we have to hear? The whole campaign we've heard McCain and Palin jump from repeating one lie to the next. Wake up people. We will be paying more taxes at some point in the not-too-distant future no matter what. I just voted to raise taxes on myself so that my school system can survive. Stop spreading this complete lie and stop believing it!
McCain/Palin are losing because they practice doublethink and this country is fed up with lies. She is not qualified. How many more prominent Republicans need to come out in support of Obama before you ditto-heads realize that is the reason McCain is losing. People try to track it to the economic mess. Well, this economy was in crisis long before McCain picked Palin. Directly following the pick (within a few days) the polls starting to fall. As people got to know her through the mindless drivel she was trying to spout in interviews they realized that they had another W. and this country can’t take another 4 years of the dimwit rule. Now she’s finally memorized the talking points and every time she strays from them she’s wrong.
Let me say it again: McCain has promised to raise your taxes in time of economic crisis, Obama has promised to lower taxes for 95% of the population.
Doublethink (you want this for 4 more years?): To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies — all this is indispensably necessary. - tokyopimp, on 10/25/2008, -0/+52I told the right wingers I knew that Palin would end up being a dud and screwing McCain. They didn't believe me, now they kind of do.
- spaceman84, on 10/25/2008, -8/+57***** you.
- chrissku, on 10/25/2008, -3/+50John McCain threw a Hail Mary and missed. I'm not saying McCain would have definitely won with someone other than Palin, however he definitely lost because of Sarah Palin.
- sodade, on 10/25/2008, -5/+48The thing is, Palin represents the views and attitudes of white trash america. She (and/or her ilk) is the future of the republican party.
- deleo, on 10/25/2008, -0/+42Young people (18 to 30) who have supported Obama so much through all of this need to actually go out and vote now. There are already reports that young people are not showing up to the polls in early voting at the numbers that were expected. If you want John McCain to be President then stay home. If not, go grab three of your friends and head to the polls. It's not over until the votes are counted.
- sheasie, on 10/25/2008, -3/+41The truth keeps boosting Obama.
/Buried for inaccurate headline. - Haecceity, on 10/25/2008, -1/+33Donating clothes to charity is the McCain's campaign's version of "spreading the wealth."
- langdonalger, on 10/25/2008, -0/+31the investigations have turned up plenty! several republicans have been arrested for vote fraud.
- cmootoo, on 10/25/2008, -4/+35What about Hawaii and ACORN?
Almost a year of investigation by the GOP and more recently, the FBI haven't turned up any evidence of voter fraud perpetrated by ACORN. While we're on the topic, is McCain scheduled to speak at another of their meetings?
Has Mickey Mouse shown up to vote after being registered by an ACORN worker? - roofview, on 10/25/2008, -0/+28She was able to fool some of the people but not most of the people.
- JoeVet, on 10/25/2008, -0/+28The appeal of the GOP has steadily declined since the negative comments and ads began. You'd think that eventually they would get a clue.
- JMaj, on 10/25/2008, -0/+28I'll bet $150k in clothing and fashion, that she will.
- yosserhughes, on 10/25/2008, -2/+29***** off you racist redneck pig.
- 5xSTUN, on 10/25/2008, -0/+26I'd say he threw an interception.
What I find puzzling is that he went for a VP choice that would appeal exclusively to people in the states he's already got banked. I mean, if you're courting the Jewish vote in Florida, for Pete's sake you don't choose a VP candidate who belongs to a far-right dominionist Christian cult. - langdonalger, on 10/25/2008, -1/+27this isn't a little or superficial issue. mccain wrote a law that specifically prohibits what they're now doing. that is a big deal.
- lazyfisherman, on 10/25/2008, -1/+27Elect this elitist Hockey Mom and Palinism posters will be everywhere..
She will make us long for the wisdom and common sense of George Bush. - emotecontrol, on 10/25/2008, -0/+25FTA: Palin said the wardrobe controversy was fueled by gender bias. However, her overall favorability rating -- the most basic measure of a public figure's popularity -- has fallen more steeply among women, by 17 points, and among white women, by 21 points, than it has among men, an eight-point drop.
This makes me laugh.
Palin: Oh, everyone who thinks I'm a clod for spending over three average annual family incomes on jackets and haircuts...they're all just sexist.
American women: 'Scuse me? Shut yo' mouth. - lazyfisherman, on 10/25/2008, -3/+28Why don't you go marry John McPalin because it's obvious that you like him so much.
- LimeParrot, on 10/25/2008, -0/+25I donno man... Bush has had 8 years to fortify his position as the authority on stupidity. Call me when you can buy Palinism posters.
- OliveStreet, on 10/25/2008, -1/+26First, where do you get the 45% tax rate? Besides, if you're making $100,000 to $200,000 you are still going to be taxed at the same rate your butt-boy bush pushed through. Curiously, here's what Wikipedia has to say regarding your first two sources:
"The American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI) is a conservative think tank, founded in 1943. "
Note the part about CONSERVATIVE THINK TANK! Have you heard of Google? It's this thing called a search engine. People use Google on this thing called the Internet. It's very, very cool.
If you think no one is going to double-check your *****, you're as stupid as McCain and his cross-burning, red-neck running mate.
One thing I know for sure: Because of President Retard's ineptitude, the US has fallen so far into debt that now the government---regardless of who's in the in White House---will not only have to raise taxes to raise revenues, but many important programs will have to be slashed as well. Clinton had to do the same things in the early nineties to help get us out of the mess that Reagan-cum-BushOne created, only this time pain is going to be deeper and last much longer.
Of course, no politician is go tell stupid voters such as yourself these things because they know narcissistic people like you only care about buying the Escalade every two years, and don't give a crap the truly important issues like the over 4,500 US service personnel who've die because of an intentional lie.
If you were a good Christian, as I'm sure you think you are, you would open the veins in both wrists, bleed out, and make the human race just a little better by being unable to pass along any of your DNA. - pintomp3, on 10/25/2008, -2/+26job is a three letter word. it's plural is not. is counting the number of letters in a word the best the mccain campaign can do?
- mikey2dope, on 10/25/2008, -0/+24Real Americans eh? Chances are the REAL Americans who died on 9/11 would most likely have voted for Obama, as most New Yorkers are democrat.
Also, people still say "negro?"
LOL WUT. - LimeParrot, on 10/25/2008, -5/+29Exactly, thanks for saying that. If you went by Digg.com this election was over a long time ago but it's actually very close if you count every American (leading me to believe Digg users are generally smarter than average -- which I picked in the recent survery!) Don't get complacent please... If McCain/Palin win this election, you Americans will lose whatever credibility you have left...
- bicyclethief, on 10/25/2008, -3/+27Palin has been the best thing to happen to SNL in the last five years.
She helped make SNL somewhat funny again. I and many others didn't think it was possible. Kudos to her. - Gerz1219, on 10/25/2008, -0/+24We've tried cutting taxes on the rich for 30 years! You won this argument and got your way for decades. And in case you haven't noticed, it hasn't worked out so well. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
When you present it as this hypothetical -- as in, how are tax cuts going to create wealth, hmmm? -- you are appealing to an intuitive ideology which has been thoroughly discredited. We now know that supply-side economics and massive deficit spending have horrible consequences. You're going to have to come up with some new ideas. - inactive, on 10/25/2008, -2/+24Have you put a gun to your head and pulled the trigger today? Try it, its fun!
- cmootoo, on 10/25/2008, -0/+22Well step up to the plate. Lets hear some facts that lend some credibility to the rantings of the right wing zealots.
- bjornski, on 10/25/2008, -2/+23She's not that competent.
- bicyclethief, on 10/25/2008, -1/+21Losing credibility would be the least of our worries.
- Haecceity, on 10/25/2008, -4/+24Uh, it was $400 haircuts, he paid for them himself, and the mainstream media was all over the story. Oh, you poor picked-on Republicans!
- bobbknight, on 10/25/2008, -2/+21I am ***** tired of the Obama birth stories!
Was Obamas mother a US Citizen? Yes.
If your are born of a citizen, you are a citizen.
Obama Is. by the requirements of the constitution eligible for the Presidency of the USA.. - theexitwound, on 10/25/2008, -0/+19What tax hikes?
- inactive, on 10/25/2008, -2/+20Sarah Palin has been a God-send to Democrats.
- scully32, on 10/25/2008, -2/+20You betcha!
- Haecceity, on 10/25/2008, -0/+18Keep driving voters to Obama, baby! Come on, tell us what you really think.
- stellamaris, on 10/25/2008, -0/+18Actually, Michelle shops at moderately priced stores like the Gap (according to Sasha). She wears $30 dresses. Barack routinely get his shoes re-soled instead of buying new ones.
- cmootoo, on 10/25/2008, -2/+19That would kill a good percentage of the support Paul had if he sold out to become McCain's running mate.
- homercles337, on 10/25/2008, -1/+18More lies from the ***** liars. Palin’s favorability rating is now 36%, McCain’s 42%, while Obama and Biden are 59% and 58%, respectively. Those were the first numbers from a google i could find--ie, not cherry picked.
- digitalagent, on 10/25/2008, -0/+17Seriously. You are believing the lie. I think your profile name says it all. You have been drinking the kool-aid. McCain's policy will tax your healtcare benefits. Obama's promises a tax-CUT for 95% of the population. What part of reality do you not understand?
- homercles337, on 10/25/2008, -0/+17Jebus christ, the stupid is strong with this one.
- arcangelgabriel, on 10/25/2008, -0/+16I've already voted absentee.
Obama 08.
Loud and Proud, I've had enough of the right. - homercles337, on 10/25/2008, -1/+17Youre confusing your hero with someone who actually cares about the economy.
- homercles337, on 10/25/2008, -0/+16All your stupid ***** has been debunked, debunked time and time again! I know you have an aversion to facts, but its probably time you start to accept them. I have some balm for that rash you will undoubtedly break out in when you do start to look at facts and not your Corporate Media or your ***** crazy, rabid right-wing radio.
- ducksauce001, on 10/25/2008, -3/+19Seriously, she doesn't even know the job description of the position she's going for. I guess I won't be hiring (voting) for McCain and her!
