- nfulton, on 10/12/2007, -3/+64This page has a link to the error reports voters filed in 2004.

40% of the nation or so will use these stupid things to vote, and these machines _always_ make mistakes in favor of republicans. They are making _exactly_ the mistakes in Texas/Florida early voting that they made in 2004.
Diebold . . . add them to the list of people who need to be prosecuted if we _ever_ find a way to get new leadership in the house/senate. - jstohler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+62Diebold used to be one of the most trusted brand names around, but not anymore. At best, they've thrown it away to jump into an arena they know nothing about; at worst, they thrown it away in pursuit of partisan political goals.

A pair of crooked humans charged with counting votes can change a relatively insignificant handful of votes. A single hacker or a crooked human charged with setting up an electronic voting system can deliver Ohio. - LesterKing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23It's like Geocities...

No, I'd say we'd need a foreign company to do it, a company everyone trusts, a company with an impeccable security record and a proven dedication to honesty and fairness: SONY! - kayjay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14those voting machines need to be banned, its WAY TOO use to manipulate a computer than people (sworn in!) that count votes.
we europeans tend to count votes by hand. thats TRUE democracy. - ProximaC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you.
- pgoetz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Is limeaid what you store in your head where the neurons should be?
Question: why can't right wing nut jobs RESPOND TO THE F*ing ARGUMENT rather than always resort to ad hominem attacks (like the one I make above)? Either formulate a logical, factual response the claims being made of SHUT THE ***** UP. Do you have your head so far up your ass that you're not aware of the numerous demonstrations of just how easy it is to hack Diebold voting machines? Unless you really are 14, grow up, *****. - cthulhu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12And if the voting machines (and, more importantly, the central tabulators) were made by major Democratic contributers, who promised to hand the election to the dems, you would have no problem with that.
Yeah. Right. - jivatmanx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14@sallytrees
Certain suspicions are not excessive or baseless, for example, if you knew anything about neoconservatism, you would know that it's inventor, leo strauss, as well as most others, recognize that it is literally based on lieing to people.
Basically, it's point is to create a mythology (term THEY used) of a benevolant, hegemonic america that fought evil in the world. It's first incarnation was Team B (Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld were in this group). Their first order of buisness was to "prove" that a clearly failing soviet union was had secret laser, radar, and missle programs that they were hiding. (They had zilch evidence, and the CIA called it a fantasy. Unfortunately they found support elsewhere in gov't) They later claimed that the soviet union was responsible for ALL terrorism in the world at the time.
btw, this is all in a bbc documentary, with neocons from these groups still defending their own falsehoods.
@Sally2trees
When you realize that the political philosophy of those in power have, as a central tenant condone lieing, it's not excessive to be suspicious of them - geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11That's all they have... attacks, ad hominem, trolling Limbaugh-esque behavior. Pinning them down on logic is like pinning down a squeeling pig. Good luck. They'll just make their little dittohead trolling statements, sprinkling in moonbat, tinfoil and run off. Nothing is better than short shocking insults that make for great soundbytes.
Of course when they were 'whining' about Clinton "wagging th dog" it wasn't a case of a bunch of crazy moonbats whining like girls. Nope.
Assuming we overcome Diebold, we have a lot of cleaning up to do, starting with Iraq. Then we'll regulate e-voting like we regulate ATMs. - peritonlogon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Use the reply button.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10i heard 80% of the country will be using electronic voting this time around
is 40% diebold? - stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Worse than a myspace page?
- jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It is much more likely to be accurate than anything you will see or hear on this side of the pond. The great thing about facts are that you can check them yourself. You don't even have to turn on Fox News to see if the BBC is misrepresenting something ... you can look it up yourself. The Internet is wonderful. Another case of reality's well known liberal bias.
- DimitroffVodka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9You guys ever think that the best thing that could happen is the Election to get hacked but done so obviously so the flaws are exposed? All it would take is one very dedicated person to lets say erase all Democrats/Republican votes out. So EVERY single vote went to just one person.
It would definitely create some Anarchy but from the ashes something better would be formed.
One hacker could easily become the most famous hacker of all time. - H2SO4, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13It's going to be 2000 all over agian!

Yes, another 40% are optical scanners. It's like the bubble tests used in elementary school. You ink in the bubble for your candidates, then slip it into a scanner that scans which bubbles you filled in. I wasn't aware that they were considered an electronic form of voting until a few days ago when I was reading an article that said all Minnesotans vote on electronic machines this election. I got worried figuring Diebold had snuck their machines into our state, but then they went on to clarify that these optical scanners are considered electronic voting.
I don't know why more places don't use them, they are easy to tally up the votes, and provide a paper trail with the ballot you have to scan. After scanning the ballot is securely stored inside the machine, then after the election a certain number of counties have to recount by hand, if they differ from the machine count by .5% they must do a full recount across the state.
Here I found the link:
http://www.startribune.com/587/story/777472.html - slushpuppie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12 If by "you," you mean all Americans--- then, yes, we all loose should our form of democratic government become a farce. This is a good observation on your part. Election fraud is certainly not a partisan issue.
However, concerning the 2004 elections--- I, for one (and would imagine most would agree with me), am far more concerned with the elections next week and two years from now. I don't know why most Republicans seem so stuck on 2004; stuck in the past. I hardly ever hear anyone talking about the last round of elections except them. - hypomonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Video cameras are explicitly forbidden inside voting precincts, and even if you could tape yourself voting - how would you ever know if your vote was tampered with, without being provided a paper receipt?
- lnf69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Interesting article, but the site it appears on is a disaster!
- greenvortex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9People should bring videocameras into the voting booth this year. Record yourself voting. If the machine screws with your vote, get your tape to the local TV station pronto.
- Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Hence Path to 9/11, which was a farce created by GOP supporters and ABC to push the conservative agenda of taking from the middle and lower class and giving to the rich, which has been the determining factor of the last 6 years. And where do the children of those who have-not go to pay for an education? Iraq.
You can quote me on that. - Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Please define moonbat for me, you seem to use it derogatorially but I wasn't in on the whole establisment of intent for the word. I am much clearer in my vocabulary, you're a deliberatly ignorant sheep and you revel in your fantasy world where these men have your best interests in mind. Eventually you'll have to face the hard fact that you are being raped and you are defending the rapists. Please don't breed.

I guess everyone is lying BUT the poor politicians, who are being unfairly judged.
Get your head out of the sand. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Ill whine about it all I want. Its my right and its the interweb and if it pisses you off then "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED"
whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine-whine!
Back on track, these machines are horrible. Other than writing my (supposedly) elected representatives I didn't feel there was much I could do and I didn't want to use a Diebold so Ive chosen to use an absentee ballot. - jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I'm genuinely suprised that it wasn't Bill Clinton's fault somehow.
- socokoolaid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The site was so ugly and cluttered, was there an article somewhere on it? What a trash ass site.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4O'Dell was fired a couple of days ago. Whether over that statement, over insider trading, or over the only-too-obvious ***** Diebold will have to weather after the election, I do not know.
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Diebold_CEO_resigns_after_reports_of_1212.html - oxymoron69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No... e-voting needs to be scrapped. go back to paper ballots with representatives from OUTSIDE NEUTRAL countries or .orgs to oversee your election.
Other countries can seem to handle it and have legit elections, whats wrong with you yanks? - Koosebane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4IF there are valid arguments to begin with.
Sarcasm is proper when met with opinion masquerading as fact. - FreddieD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4....or 2004 :(
- FreddieD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"I don't understand how people can't see a conflict of interest when the director of Diebold said that he was 'dedicated to bringing the Ohio electoral votes for Mr. Bush' in the 2004 election."
I don't know why the press isn't crushing this guy over this quote. Can you imagine what would happen if major league baseball commissioner Bud Selig was quoted as 'dedicated to bringing a World Series victory to the St. Louis Cardinals'?
If you loathe baseball, substitute my analogy with your favorite sport. - Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I have a feeling that that might violate some sort of voting law. I'm not sure but it seems to be deliberately anonymous.
- diggduggjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Where I live, they will be using optical scanners.
I hear Diebold is coming out with an optical scanner, too. It has a cross-cut paper shredder built in to limit the paper trail. ;) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'll do it with my cell. I doubt it's illegal to record yourself voting.
If they say anything, tell them to ***** off. - Jowsley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I was very happy to see my absentee ballot in my mail box when I got home last night. It's probably too late for you to request one be sent to you, but at least in FL, you can go to your local election office and pick one up yourself today.
Demand a paper trail. It's the only way.

If you favor things that take more personal time and effort; write letters to senators and congressmen as well as local officials (ESPECIALLY if you live in an are where these machines will be used. Volunteer to be a poll watcher. -
