- Minarchian, on 08/14/2008, -10/+184"Gitmo On The Platte"
Certainly reminds me of Gitmo.
It also reminds me of some of the so-called "FEMA Camp" videos I've seen.
It makes me believe that the authorities are expecting mass round ups of people, by the hundreds. Don't think for a minute what they are planning is going to be Constitutional. - notque, on 08/14/2008, -8/+158Do not comply when your constitutional rights are violated.
- jaymzdean, on 08/14/2008, -14/+163Go to Denver.
Take a camera.
Record everything you see.
The iron curtain is coming down, folks. - brjohnson789, on 08/14/2008, -24/+156To any of you kool-aid drinking Obama supporters: HE IS TOTALLY OK WITH ALL OF THIS.
- phnx0221, on 08/14/2008, -5/+134So, it appears with the 300 additional taser devices being issued to these police officers, the additional training, and now the creation of this detention facility, the police force is already expecting to arrest and detain hundreds of protesters.
Thanks to the signage, it also appears that those held in captivity will also be subject to sleeping on cement floors, and stunned with tasers during their detention.
I am very happy that this news organization not only went in there with their cameras rolling, but also warned the protesters about what they are facing.
This is highly disturbing, and we should all be following this closely, letting everyone know what is happening (or at least, what is planned for them) to these people utilizing their constitutional rights, as well as those granted by the Bill of Rights. - phnx0221, on 08/14/2008, -3/+113These "free speech zones" make a mockery of our rights to freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and freedom to patriotically protest the wrongs that our governments have committed in our name.
- gemlarin, on 08/14/2008, -4/+77Hmm. I have mixed feelings on this. I advocate peaceful protesting, through methods taught by Dr. King. Those that use these non-violent forms of protest should be not only allowed, but protected. When violence, looting, and obstruction of justice comes into play, you most certainly should be subject to arrest. If "mass" people commit "mass" crimes, then "mass" arrest is justified. HOWEVER, if this holding facility is meant to silence peaceful protest, and violate your civil rights, then folks, make sure you bring cameras and record EVERYTHING. I'm sure most Diggers will disagree with me, however, I am not going to jump the gun on this until I see what ensues. I think the mere fact that this holding facility has been brought to light is going to keep cops on their toes when dealing with the protesters. We need more investigative reporting like this. Good job CBS 4 News!
- Hangly, on 08/14/2008, -8/+72"Free Speech Zones" are an unconstitutional law that's easy to break. There's an opportunity here.
Gandhi and MLK didn't protest by waving pieces of posterboard from inside a cordoned area like ***** herd animals. they broke laws, destroyed government property, and went to jail for it. - Observant1, on 08/14/2008, -3/+64maybe we oughtta start building detention facilities for people impersonating law enforcement officers who violate the peoples constitutional rights, which is criminal. black uniform, packing weapons, and no badge = terrorist who hates our freedoms.
- Cryptocracy, on 08/17/2008, -3/+64If You Build It, They Will Come.... I think if the cages are not filled someone will be accused of not doing their jobs....
- Minarchian, on 08/14/2008, -1/+58Good comment but a small flaw in it.
The Constitution doesn't "grant" our Rights. They are pre-existing to the Constitution. The Constitution only recognizes our Rights and the fact that the Government can not abridge them. - inactive, on 08/14/2008, -6/+63Inhumane, nobody should be put in there. How many to a cage?.. I wonder.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -1/+53we need cameras with live feeds - LOTS of them.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -5/+57Welcome to East Berlin.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -1/+44Please heed tykwondingo's warning. LIVE cameras, cell phones, ANYTHING that will help protect you.
- notque, on 08/14/2008, -0/+42But if there are 10,000 people, and 10 commit crimes, do you lock up all 10k?
This is the problem. In Seattle, they mass arrested people who were protesting, and a Judge just last year ruled their civil liberties were violated.
Rights are read to them. Crimes aren't seen from them. They just start arresting everyone.
Mass arrest is never justified.
Also, some of the laws aren't justified. A Free speech zone isn't constitutional. So you're breaking a law which isn't constitutional. So the police then use tazers, pepper spray, and gas on you.
Is it right to break laws that are wrong?
Does civil disobedience justify tasers? Pepper spray? Rubber bullets? At point blank range?
Let's pretend another country was at war, and their population wanted to protest against their illegal war. Would we decry that country for tasering and pepper spraying their population for protesting the war? - notque, on 08/14/2008, -3/+43And we need people on digg looking for DNC and RNC video and digging it up. Sharing it. Favoriting it.
I promise to do my part. Add me, and I will share DNC and RNC videos (my history shows I already have.)
If this is something you care about, we need to coordinate our efforts.
I promise to digg all incoming RNC and DNC information. Add me, and we can all work together. Post here in reply to this thread, and pledge your support for this.
If we can't be there in person, we can do our part by making their actions news. - GovernmentSp00k, on 08/15/2008, -4/+44Watch for these to be infiltrated by police posing as "protesters" to incite riots...
It wouldn't be the first time. An event of this magnitude you can almost expect it. - inactive, on 08/14/2008, -1/+41we need live feed cameras out there to see what comes of this.
- dracostimpy, on 08/14/2008, -1/+37BE READY to make civilian's arrests on any instigators who start tossing rocks or bottles, as those most likely will be the agent provocateurs sent in by the Denver PD to justify a crackdown on the entire crowd. Be sure to bring the police over to those people and see if they're arrested or just shuffled out of sight to change into new clothes for attempt #2.
- phnx0221, on 08/14/2008, -0/+35Good call, thank you. Our rights as people, aren't warranted on whether or not a select group are in power and choose to grant them for us. As you said, It's a recognition and governmental protection of them.
- notque, on 08/14/2008, -0/+34And that means it's all of your jobs to watch youtube for videos, search digg and digg up articles with videos during the conventions.
The media will not cover what happens. If all of the people who read this help, we can make it an honest national issue.
Add me. I will be following and submitting stuff during RNC and DNC. - Catspaw, on 08/14/2008, -1/+32I hope the protesters don't let the look of that facility put them off speaking out.
Whenever public spirit prevails, liberty is secure -Noah Webster - notque, on 08/14/2008, -4/+34http://crashtheconventions.com/
News for RNC and DNC protests with information how you can help give to legal defense funds - AmyVernon, on 08/14/2008, -0/+29They did this four years ago in Boston, too, pretty much. I don't think the setup was exactly the same, but it was damn close.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -7/+34I would point out that if assaulted for exercising your constitutional rights with a weapon you have every legal and moral right to use whatever force necessary to stop your attacker. This camp, if everyone resisted with deadly force could be turned into a holding cell for enemies of the people and their Constitution. My prayers go with all who attend.
- Hangly, on 08/14/2008, -5/+32Putting Americans in barbed wire cages has got to be the stupidest idea I've ever heard. They might work temporarily, but what about the psychological effect it will have on the rest of the country?
I actually wish I could be there. Getting held in a barbed wire detention facility must be worth like a million punk points. Anyone who spent time there would have to beat the pussy away with a stick after he got out.
"Yeah baby, this is the scar where they tasered me. It took them five tries before I went down--I'm that hard core. Now gimme some sugar." - mikelieman, on 08/15/2008, -0/+27Don't forget about the Agent Provocateurs!
- notque, on 08/14/2008, -4/+31Don't knock the Freespeech zone. That's where people are planning on sleeping!
CAMPING
We'll be camping at the "Freedomville Shantytown" in the freedom cage. Mayor Hickenlooper seems to have an affinity for using a 40 year old playbook. Thus, he's banned camping at the park. No worries, though. We've got a plan. Each night we'll march a few blocks to the Pepsi Center and throw up camp, continuing to demostrate with music, activities, and "feigned" sleep! Each morning we'll hob nob it with the media while serving "freedom" toast. A couple things:
Bring an Air Mattress, Blankets
We're camping on concrete. We'll be making a strong statement (no one's ever used the cages for accomadations which is the only thing they're good for) but we want everyone to be comfortable.
Chill on the Alcohol!
This is a no brainer. We're trying to stop a war, not make asses out of people. We've all been there. Seriously, be smart. - phnx0221, on 08/14/2008, -1/+27There are often things that occur during protests that can seem to "justify" excessive use of force against a protesting crowd. Often, the people who are "disturbing the peace" with "riotous activity", aren't protesters at all, but are in fact off duty, or undercover police officers dressed in civilian clothing. Numerous protests have shown this to be the case, where the people who cause violence are given lenient treatment by the police, and then found later to be working for them.
Never take protest "riot" activity at face value. Be suspicious of reports of violence, and be suspicious of justifications for excessive use of force.
They're already setting up to use excessive force, as you can see by the sign in the video, implying the use of tasers to be used
on persons who are already locked in a metal cage surrounded by barbed wire (not a threat).
The police have had additional training, have been issued additional equipment, and have spent the money to build a new detention center with a capacity for hundreds of people. - Harbinger67, on 08/15/2008, -0/+25Ghandi and MLK destroyed property?
- samthurston, on 08/15/2008, -1/+25I don't believe that either Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ever destroyed government property or advocated doing so in their peaceful movements. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.
- notque, on 08/14/2008, -13/+35Obama isn't remarkably different from McCain. Nader is the only person worth voting for in this election, which means voting is not going to make change in this country, and only action will.
- JKap, on 08/15/2008, -6/+28"Democratic" National Convention? What a joke.
What’s there to say? Our Constitutional Republic is in remnant status. Looks like a repeat of the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City when protestors were also thrown into an old warehouse replete with chain link fence and barbed wire for exercising their First Amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly.
I guess this is the kind of “change” we can expect from Obomba—a continuation of an unconstitutional police/war state.
There’s some alleged difference between this Two Party Dictatorship? Pfff.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Republican_Natio ... - RedPhalanx, on 08/15/2008, -9/+30Barack Obama: Detention Camps you can believe in!
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -3/+24Someone help my overburdened memory. What is the Jefferson quote about the road being paved with the blood of tyrants and.....? I think that is highly appropriate here.
- Elwood19k20, on 08/15/2008, -2/+23Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; ****or the right of the people peaceably to assemble****, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -1/+21It's not a detention center...it's a water board park.
- siszam, on 08/15/2008, -0/+20Exercising free speech is left wing? You sad, little person.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -0/+19If that's what it takes, yes, get stunned instead. I'd rather die fighting for what's right than being a coward and letting criminals get away with raping our/my country...
- PeppermintPig, on 08/15/2008, -1/+19Except for private property.
- Ridgeliner7, on 08/15/2008, -2/+20The Federal Government funds most of the security measures. How this is done, is through the Candidates representatives, and reps of Howard Dean at the DNC. They approve everything. So if any of you have problems with the plans, bitch to Obama.....
- urbanwrit, on 08/15/2008, -2/+18It looks like they are trying to discourage protests or else! Is that what the media is really spinning?
- phnx0221, on 08/15/2008, -0/+16When the power to make decisions in this country is too concentrated, and there is no direct contact with the people, no way for the people to participate in the policies that affect their lives, and the lives of others....both "sides" are equally as evil. This is especially true, when the decisions being made can actually cause great harm, while also violating your basic human rights.
This is why people protest, this is why they commit acts of civil disobedience. Because then their voices will actually be heard. - inactive, on 08/14/2008, -1/+17Are your parents siblings SS67?
- Hangly, on 08/14/2008, -4/+19Do what the Europeans do at protests. Bring your own batons, helmets and shields and give as good as you get.
- notque, on 08/14/2008, -2/+17If anyone is committing a violent act, it is your duty to stop them.
Do not take no for an answer. Put on a citizen's arrest.
If the police start committing violence against non-violent protesters, I would get to safety and protest some more in different areas. Keep moving, keep banding together with more groups and protest more.
Just keep protesting, and avoiding arrest for peacefully protesting.
Do not use violence against anyone. Do not allow anyone to use violence against anyone.
Resist. - siszam, on 08/15/2008, -1/+16The French protest by going crazy, setting things on fire and destroying things. The government rightly fears the people instead of the people fearing the government. I'm a peaceful person but I'm also a realist. Peaceful protests are easy to ignore and won't stop the government from running over the people. It didn't stop the government from slaughtering our troops.
Thank God our forefathers took up arms and defended their rights. - notque, on 08/14/2008, -1/+16And get it to youtube, and we'll get it to the front page.
