Dems Hypocrites on Sex Scandals
newsmax.com — While they react with fury over the scandal involving former Rep. Mark Foley, Democrats maintain a discreet silence over the numerous sex scandals that have rocked their own party. Unlike Republican scandals like Foley's, where shame & resignation were the outcome, the Democrats' shameful behavior were either blithely ignored or jocularly accepted.

- sharpfork, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Unlike the Democratic scandals of the past, this one involves potentially illegal behavior with a minor from the the self righteous "Family Value" party which freaks out about all things gay. The GOP has set the tone by which the Dems are reacting to this scandal by their past reactions but has their panties in bunch trying to hold onto power rather than protect children from pedophiles. Please keep defending the indefensible so the American people can see more clearly that the GOP has party interests above the interests of the USA and out children.
- WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Congressman Mel Reynolds: sex with a sixteen-year-old campaign volunteer
Rep. Barney Frank: Roommate ran a prostitution service from Capitol Hill apartment.
Rep.Gerry Studds: admitted to having sex with a teenage page
None of these were asked to resign their position. In fact they were all reelected after their crimes. - dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I don't care what ***** side these people are on, they all deserve what they get. I do however feel that the "LOOK WHAT DEMS DID!" excuse is *****, because it's a cop out. Foley should get jailtime, regardless of what a democrat did a decade ago.
- MyHappyClam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3DshPls is correct, Foley should get what is coming to him, BUT so should have all the Democrats! What hypocrisy!

- MyHappyClam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So the Studds incident wasn't the same as this one? Let's see. Both were pages, both were under 18 (illegal in both cases), Foley only IM'd (potentially illegal) whereas Studds engaged in sex (very illegal), Foley immediately stepped down (the right thing to do) whereas Studds didn't and even made no admission of doing anything wrong (sounds like Clinton learned something from this guy) and got re-elected 6 more times. What a farce on the Democratic side.
- attila, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Foley didn't immediately step down.. he stepped down when the allegations and his IM logs/E-mails with the pages became public. Foley was content with promoting sex-offender crime laws and cyber-sex-crime legislation while at the same time, breaking those laws. All of the 'meetings in secret' to "manage" the Foley-situation concerns me greatly. Every day, revelations are coming out about who knew what he was up to -- yet for years have remained silent. Now people are criticizing the timing of the release of this information?
Get real, he's a sick individual who targets children for sexual grooming and tried to establish physical contact on a number of occasions. The fact that he didn't actually physically abuse (that we know of) any of his victims makes him less of a criminal than someone who has? Not in my opnion. I'm glad he was caught and I think everyone should be, I hope the parents of these children are, as well as the other pages who could have been subjected to his perverted agenda. - WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3So, how do you feel for the parents of the kids Congressman Mel Reynolds and Representative Gerry Studds performed statutory rape on?
Hypocrisy, thy name is the DNC. - MyHappyClam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2But he did step down NOT the Democrats! Also he didn't commit to anything physical like the Democrats!

- diggthiscrap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6My Sweet Neocons, now is not the time to defend child molestation by pointing to your rivals and saying "well they did it", that is what a sociopath does.
- WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2My Sweet Socio-Communists, we're not defending child molestation, even though Foley never committed child molestation, whereas Reynolds and Studds did. We're pointing out the hypocrisy in your camp, which is rampant.
- MyHappyClam, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Foley should pay for what ever crime he has violated BUT I say again and again SO SHOULD THE DEMOCRATS!!!!!! Foley stepped down NOT one of the Democrats stepped down in fact they continued to get re-elected by the Democrats. That shows you what type of people Democrats really are -sexual predators who because they don't denounce it get away with it!
- Nis81, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"So, how do you feel for the parents of the kids Congressman Mel Reynolds and Representative Gerry Studds performed statutory rape on?"
I feel terrible about it. No child should be subjected to such predatory tactics.
BUT, pointing a finger and saying, "They did it too!" does NOT excuse Foley for his actions. Even though everyone else in kindergarten was eating glue does not mean I wasn't wrong for eating it too.
The bigger issue, however, is that there appears to have been some conspiracy to keep this whole issue under wraps. The hyprocrites are the ones who passed legislation making what Foley did illegal but then tried to keep Foley's illegal actions from public scrutiny.- WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2No it doesn't excuse him. That's why he stepped down. But notice none of the Democratic child molesters stepped down. In fact, the DNC supported them and they got reelected. Hypocrites, all of them.
- MyHappyClam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I still think pointing the finger is correct. Foley stepped down and it looks like he is playing the classic elitist way to avoid the truth by going into rehab and claiming it was because of alcohol (which I think is wrong too). It still does excuse the Democrats and their hypocrisy on the issue. Every one of the Democrats who have done the same thing as Foley should resign RIGHT NOW, just like Foley! But you know they won't because they don't think it is wrong to be gay and have sex with underage pages or legal age interns (Clinton) or kill someone by leaving the scene of an accident (Kennedy) so why should they take any responsibility? Remember they are the party of liberalism, free drugs, anti-war and hippie communes.
- Nis81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Note that I never said that any democrat guilty of the same should be let off. I'm just pointing out that there is no way to excuse Foley for what he has done. His punishment should be severe enough to serve as a warning to any others who habor the same sick tendancies.
My main point is that _any_ congressmen knowingly involved in this cover-up, republican or democrat, should be punished as well. Signs are pointing that people high up knew about this and pushed it aside in favor of party and/or political purposes. The welfare of children was deliberately put behind protecting this sicko.
- pawchikapawpaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1be that as it may, the core issue here is that foley is a sick and twisted man. we can point out hypocrisies all day, but in the end, this is about foley, period. there is no question about it, it is mandatory that everyone from both sides agree that this is not right. no ifs and no buts.
parents should be thoroughly disappointed and even outraged with how the politicians and media that surrounds this incident handled the situation. a cover-up, a slap on the hand? that is how they regarded this incident? shameful. raising issues about altered emails or a setup does not change anything: foley is still the perverted mess that he is.
to the conservatives who are all too quick to point out hypocrisy, don't even start. standards have always been held higher for conservatives. never mind how liberals think or how hypocritical they have been in their actions. they can always be counted on to lower the bar and pander to the lowest denomination. it is shameful that conservatives are even trying to deflect the issue. throw foley under the bus. condemn his actions. let this incident be a reflection of what the conservative movement is and not employ a ridiculous tactic that a five year old uses when caught doing something bad.
to the liberals, well... now is your chance prove everyone wrong. condemn this man's actions, as well as those who have the same perversions among you. what your ilk has supported for years in Studds and Reynolds is what is defining your opinion about this issue right now. either you admit that it was reprehensible to even allow these men to stay in Congress for so long, or you admit that what Foley did was excuseable and can be given a pass. because right now, your liberal movement reeks of the stench of hypocrisy. you can complain about the conservatives trying to shift the focus all day long but at the end of the day, your continued support for the democrats in congress who were involved with the teenage pages betrays your "alleged" outrage. - IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How perfect, the republicans have found somethig to deflect from the stupidity of the present administration. Work it baby!
- motivator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1first, the acts by any person, regardless of whether they're red or blue scum, are inexcusable...period. that being said, i always laugh at the republican ability to cry "foul" when the morality finger pointing is directly toward them. are they angry that somebody is using their tactics against them?
