Democrats Impotent to Stop War
zardozz.com — The combination of multiple failed Democrat attempts at troop funding cuts, and the possible positive effects of the troop surge is beginning to create a perilous paradox for Democrats...

- skyhawk8, on 11/19/2007, -1/+7The media doesn't want to dwell on this story. The fact it's reported in the NYT today is astounding. We can only hope that indeed the increased troop strength is having an effect. The real problem remaining is the government that's in place that still seems overly dependent on the U.S. to prop it up.

It's a common problem among puppet governments created by foreign invaders.

- polymath22, on 11/19/2007, -9/+3i agree that the democrats are impotent to stop the war. that is why i am not happy with them. but i'm even more upset with the republicans who would rather take the short-sighted position of being neo-con war-criminal sympathizers rather than taking a longer view for whats best for the country.
- 2trkpony, on 11/19/2007, -7/+3Democrats, Republicans, Republicans, Democrats.
Different piles of traitorous, deceitful *****, same stink.
Left Vs Right, Republican Vs Democrat are false paradigms forced upon us to keep the taxpaying serfs expertly divided & conquered, fighting over non-issues.
Watch this revealing video where Ralph Nader shared his views in the matter of the "Next Steps for the Peace Movement," at a panel discussion on Oct. 11, 2007. The event was held at Bus Boys and Poets, in Washington, D.C. It was a fundraiser for DemocracyRising.US.
Ralph Nader said was that there have been a number of New England Massachusetts governments who have passed resolutions voting to impeach Bush.
In particular in the area of Stockbridge, Massachusetts - 13 towns with a 2/3 majority voted to impeach. Democrat Congressman John Olvert - PhD - MIT in science, born in 1936 represents this area.
And when this particular Democratic congressman was confronted with the fact that a vast majority of his constituents voted to impeach Bush, he vehemently refused. Rather, the congressman expressed that 'the current autocratic executive, (meaning the White House..) would attack Iran from the air, declare a national emergency and call off the 2008 elections' were the Democrats to initiate impeachment proceedings'.
Wow.
That's the kind of thinking circulating around Capitol Hill, in Washington.
Nader also said that Congressman Olvert is not known to be any kind of off-the-wall maverick so that if this is the way they are thinking in Washington D.C. things are a lot worse than we thought. If it is accurate, things are worse than we thought and if it is NOT accurate, they are a lot more paranoid than we thought.
Very revealing to say the least.
Either way, the Democ-rats are not functioning as a proper opposition party.
To think that a bunch of spineless cowards are "leading" the Democratic party makes me puke. Except for Dennis Kucinich. He's the only one with a spine.

Strangely, none of these excuses bothered Republicans when they impeached Bill Clinton in the House for lying under oath about sex and proceeded to a full trial in the Senate where they failed to get the required votes. Can Clinton’s “high crimes and misdemeanors” begin to compare with this White House crime wave?
Here's a a companion piece from Nader's site:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAIJyKhJhiM- chicofaraby, on 11/19/2007, -9/+1The majority of Congressional Democrats voted against the illegal invasion. The majority of Congressional Republicans voted for the illegal invasion. Clearly, there is a difference.
- MeanYogurt, on 11/19/2007, -1/+8Do you get paid to revise history or are you just that whacked out on the koolaid?
- chicofaraby, on 11/19/2007, -6/+1How is that "revising history?" It is an undeniable fact that the majority of Democrats in Congress in 2002 voted against HJR 114. It isn't debatable.
- MeanYogurt, on 11/19/2007, -1/+1ahh, I see. You lump them all together. A majority of Democrat senators voted for the resolution. The majority of house democrats did not. Nice spin you put on it though ; )
- chicofaraby, on 11/20/2007, -3/+1It's not spin. It's a simple fact. The majority of Congressional Democrats voted against George Bush's fake war.

- 2trkpony, on 11/20/2007, -3/+0Alas, regardless of which Republican or Democrat voted for or against the illegal invastion,
the House and Senate voted overwhelmingly to grant Lord Bush III the power to attack Iraq.
Thanks, traitors! Another no-exit, disasterous 'war' on lies. To be sustained for "maximum profit".
Have your kids, sons & daughters been shipped off to IRAQ yet? to fight & die for this war-sham
that you believe in and feel is 'overwhelmingly necessary" ?
LOL...sure...
Sadly, it seems we've reached the point where the Constitution is no longer relevant on
matters of a president's war-making powers. Presidents, the Congress and the courts have
made going to war, once a serious constitutional issue, and a purely political question.

- ugotz2, on 11/19/2007, -0/+6The Democrats have done nothing to fulfill their promises to their radical left voters who expected them to take control and "stop the war and bring the troops home now". What does that say about the naivety of their democrat constituency that fell for their bullsh-t ? They are in fact impotent. They don't control the military, just their budget and they have already given the White House the green light to wage this war (Hillary among them). It must be frustrating for them to see the reduction of hostilites. But rather than be glad, we suspect they are sad, boo hoo, because success in Iraq neutralizes their central political position in 2008. Bush bashing won't be enough.
- InRussetShadows, on 11/20/2007, -0/+8I never cease to be amazed at the astounding lack of circumspect analysis proffered by the left. It's like we're all back in third grade slinging insults on the playground, packing in as many adversarial adjectives into one sentence as we possibly can. A few quick points...
1) If we are at war, the home front is as an important as the frontline. Vietnam taught us that. So attacking people who can't go or are better serving here is as cowardly as attacking the troops themselves. Most of us are in this together to see the U.S. victorious. If you root for the U.S to emerge defeated and beaten, does that not say it all?
2) The evidence of Islam being a bloody warmaking "religion" stretches back to the history and writings of its founder. To be ignorant of them, the history of Islam, and the growth of terrorism as far back as Carter, you would have to be a fool. Ignorance is not an excuse; if you choose not to know, shellacked inside your mental bubble, then you deserve no place at any debating table.
3) Tireless repetitions of unfounded, sing-song statements do not an argument make. Put the pacifier back in your mouth. You're not ready for the grown-up table yet.- scotty777, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3Right now the left are a frustrated lot !!!
Hey... Maybe Nader, Gore, Kerry or Dean will throw their hat in at the last minute just for laughs... (Lets add Rev. Al and Jackson to the list too... we don't want to show any bias)
- scotty777, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3Right now the left are a frustrated lot !!!
- ugotz2, on 11/22/2007, -0/+4It irks them that Iraq is NOT on the front page of the news anymore. It also irks them that even with control of both Houses, they still can't "bring the troops home" and get the surrender they are looking for.
