- inactive, on 10/18/2007, -11/+49From TP: It’s interesting that Boehner is criticizing the 110th Congress as doing nothing. After all, the House, under his leadership, met for just 101 days during the second session of the 109th Congress, setting the record “for the fewest days in session in one year since the end of World War II.”
- espo111, on 10/18/2007, -12/+35too bad a cheney-impeachment vote cant be counted in the record.
- phioust, on 10/15/2007, -7/+24Who cares if they show up or not .... all they will do is roll over and play dead when crunch time comes
- OrigamiRonin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15It's the opposite. A roll call vote means that each representative's vote is on the record.
- HPCELarry, on 10/18/2007, -2/+16Number of times voting != things actually happening necessarily. That they voted doesn't mean it passed.
- inactive, on 10/18/2007, -25/+39“I don’t think they’ve gotten anything done,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) said in March. In July, he added that “Congressional Democrats” have “failed to deliver on any of their promises and have almost no accomplishments of which to speak.”
Uh huh.
Keep drinking that kool aid Bonerhead. Let's talk again in 2009 and see how things have been working out for ya. - Puppetfunk, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17It's because the way it's set up nothing can be accomplished. It's almost 50/50 so if the Dems can pass something, it gets shot down by Bush and there aren't enough votes to over-ride the veto.
- horatiolust, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12"No one's life, liberty or property are safe while legislature is in session." --Benjamin Franklin
A motion to adjourn is always in order.

(Paraphrased from Robert's Rules of Order) - Frei, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15You're one step away from the "IDKMYBFFJILL" girl on that commerical.
- gak001, on 10/18/2007, -6/+16There was an article on the front page a few days ago explaining that something around two thirds of those who disapproved of the way Congress was doing its jobs attributed it to conservative obstructionism or presidential interference.
- whataboutdave, on 10/11/2007, -5/+14Bonerhead? Really?
- br0ck, on 10/18/2007, -4/+12Where did you get 11%? It's bad, but not 11% bad. The latest gallup is 22% approval for the House while averaging all current polls pegs Democratic approval at 35% and 30% for Republicans. http://pollster.com/currenttrends.php
- inactive, on 10/18/2007, -3/+11You should tease Boehner. You know how he cries on the floor of the House already.
- irvman21, on 10/18/2007, -10/+18This guy is bragging about how many role call votes they've had? Seriously? Congress has gotten so bad that they are bragging about showing up. The Congress that came in promising to cut off funding for the war, pursue impeachment, and make sweeping changes to the political landscape is now looking for credit for breathing in and out all day long?
- AxeSwinger, on 10/18/2007, -1/+9I want to digg you down but you right...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8As Ronin pointed out, you are 100% incorrect. "A ROLL CALL VOTE is a vote on the record, noting the name of each Senator and his/her voting position." --C-SPAN Congressional Glossary.
SPANKED!! - zombies187, on 10/18/2007, -0/+7Now they will complain that Democrats have passed too much legislation.
- gak001, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Do you have any idea what you're talking about?
- Khojigybarra, on 10/18/2007, -8/+14Some of the most important pieces of legislation the Democrats have passed has been vetoed by the asshat, and a Republican criticizes them... classic.
- AzBats, on 10/18/2007, -2/+8Man that number keeps getting higher and higher. It was up to 80K last time a Republican made up the "parents who earn" number. I thought y'all got the same fax every morning (oh I remember - that was back when the Rs had congress and actually had power but decided to go lock-step into the black hole with Bush and crew).
BTW - The bridge was that Alaskan loon Stevens(R). - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+12considering that the congress is VERY close to the 50/50 mark as regarding republican/democrat. I wouldn't be crowing too loudly.
- pbaehr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Too bad a bunch of those votes are about ***** like whether or not they like a certain newspaper ad, or whether or not Rush Limbaugh is the kind of guy they'd like to talk to at a party.
- weaksnyc, on 08/14/2009, -1/+6No, you're missing the whole Veto part, which makes a huge difference. Besides the fact that there have been items that passed in congress but were vetoed by the president, the threat of a veto is a powerful in and of itself. You end up with circular arguments such as "Why are the Dems wasting time on a bill that will get vetoed anyway."
The republican controlled congress didn't have to deal with that nonsense, they just signed what they wanted and placed it with flowers and chocolates onto the president's desk. - KeirGordon, on 10/18/2007, -5/+9Your referring to providing free healthcare to poor children (Poor children meaning children who's parents make 100k a year...hmm), or maybe your referring to the war spending bill that was really just a bill with millions in pork-barrel crap? Your democrats told you they'd cut funding for the war, but they decided they'd allow funding for some small bribes, such a funding for peanut farms and bridges in pork. Aren't you glad your politicians will stab you in the back for a few bucks?
- MacEnvy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5It's not really the same, no. The "block" he was talking about is Bush's veto, and Bush in general didn't veto the legislation passed by Congress when it was dominated by Republicans for his first 6 years in office. So no, it's not the same thing. It's a hell of a lot harder to block a veto even as a (slight) majority party than to try to block closure as a minority party.
- masterm1nd, on 10/18/2007, -17/+21They have an 11% approval rating. That's the lowest ever. More than twice as many people approve of Bush!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+10It is a shame!
- justinx0r, on 10/18/2007, -2/+5And I forgot to add that they have done nothing to stop the war.
- Iktomi, on 10/18/2007, -1/+4Absolutely amazing how anyone can think that passing more legislation is positive. We're already overburdened with idiotic laws and you all find it positive that our congressional imbeciles are passing more of them. Progress occurs when they rescind all of their past stupidity, not add to it.
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3A quick civics/political science lesson: The Democrats do NOT control congress, the Republicans do & here's why.
The Dems pass legislation, it then goes to Bush who vetoes it, & then it goes back to Congress who can't overturn the veto without a 2/3rd vote for it, meaning the Republicans have to vote for it, which they never do! Its called obstructionism. Clear enough? So stop blaming the Democrats, when its the Republicans who are blocking change! - justinx0r, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Yeah, passing bills that allow Bush to ***** wiretap American citizens.
- jellygraph, on 10/18/2007, -2/+4As far as I'm concerned, for every day that Bush is in office, the Democratic majority in congress _isn't_ doing its job right.
- AxeSwinger, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Actually, it's none of the above. Since the current majority party is the Democratic Party. "Democrats is a term used by the right as an insult the left.
- MacEnvy, on 10/18/2007, -2/+4The House Majority Leader brings roll call votes, not Congress as a whole. Sorry dude, you're not going to win this one, since you obviously aren't clear on parliamentary procedure. If you're interested in educating yourself, you can read more here:
http://www.rules.house.gov/ - Scottamus, on 10/18/2007, -1/+3He just signs all the bills from a republican congress and vetoes all the ones from a democratic congress, but he's not being an obstructionist.
/sarcasm. - Elranzer, on 10/18/2007, -4/+6It's 22% because there's still a few Republicans left. Once the rest of them are voted out in 2008 and 2010, the USA will be a better place.
- smithfly114, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2heh heh you said Boehner
- inactive, on 10/18/2007, -3/+5Still, the public rates congressional Republicans (29 percent approve) LOWER than congressional Democrats (38 percent approve). And when the two parties are pitted directly against one another, the public broadly favors Democrats to handle Iraq, health care, the federal budget and the economy. Only on the issue of terrorism are Republicans at parity with Democrats.
ANY QUESTIONS??
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ... - br0ck, on 10/18/2007, -0/+2I think it's just a phrasing discrepency. Zogby looks for 'excellent' or 'good' for their approval rating, while most other approval rating polls just ask it more as a yes/no question.
ABC/WP: "Do you approve or disapprove of the way the Democrats/Republicans in Congress are doing their job?"
Pew: "Do you approve or disapprove of the job the Democratic/Republican leaders in Congress are doing?"
Zogby: "Do you rate Congress's job performance as excellent or good?" (paraphrased from http://www.reuters.com/news/globalcoverage/rzi ) - adamruth, on 10/18/2007, -1/+2I'm much happier when congress *isn't* voting.
"No man's life, liberty or property are safe while the legislature is in session."
-- Judge Gideon J Tucker - LastVisibleDog, on 10/18/2007, -3/+4Welcome to the world of left wing extremist propaganda brought to you by the leftist propagandists at ThinkProgress
- RCourtney, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Look into history, on both sides of the aisle - the more congress is 'working' the worse things get. Use to be we wanted things to change slowly so they were well thought-out and so that we, the people, had a chance to grasp how things change and fix them before it got too out of control. Now they brag about how much they work while they bamboozle us and we're too busy talking about what they did yesterday to remember and discuss what they did last month.
Personally, I'd like my government to work less and actually get things right than work more and screw us out of more, faster. - ElRayQuieres, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2umm? inaccurate = lame?
- shadomynd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1mispost
- art42, on 10/18/2007, -0/+1http://www.c-span.org/guide/congress/glossary/roll ...
- AxeSwinger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2A person. The Democratic party to it's credit and to it's failures has welcomed anyone that has wanted to join. The liberal ideal is that everyone should have liberty or individual freedoms. The problem with todays politics is that liberty is being equated to money and we all know there is more to life than money. But that's a different topic.
- LastVisibleDog, on 10/18/2007, -3/+4If you believe that - you are a completely manipulated left-wing-nut tool - the target audience of ThinkProgress. HINT: the president does not vote with the congress - oops!
- greatgazoo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Let's see ... FISA, MoveOn.org ad, IRG=terrorists: check. Impeachment, troop withdraw: unsuccessful or untouched. I for one think that democrats and republicans play the good cop, bad cop game very well for the benefit of their corporate backers. This leaves the average American citizen either coming home in a body bag, without health care, or struggling to pay the bills. We desperately need a third party that addresses our needs and doesn't play into the main stream media. I feel as if the Internet is our last hope.
- LastVisibleDog, on 10/18/2007, -2/+3Lefties are not too bright - having votes and passing legislation are two completely different concepts....unless of course you are leftist tool
Thinkprogress is pure propaganda - why do you lefty loonies allow yourselves to be completely manipulated tools. - adamruth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wow, I put the same quote before I noticed yours, but I have it from Judge Gideon J Tucker, 1866.
You can just never trust quote books these days... -
