Obama: "This is exactly the time" for a debate
http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2008/09/24/ ... - sweetshrubs, on 09/24/2008, -0/+25McCain is getting stranger and stranger. Can he walk and chew gum at the same time? Obama gave the perfect answer: presidents have to do more than one thing at a time. Nobody has to mock McCain; he does it himself everytime he opens his mouth. Sheesh.
Vote Obama/Biden 2008
- sjsuarez, on 09/24/2008, -0/+24Digg this up. I just heard on CNN that McCain's group wants to delay the debates to Oct 2nd, which just so happens to be the day of the VP debates...sounds like hogwash.
- alukaiser, on 09/24/2008, -0/+22No way, no how, no chickening out.
- seddyei, on 09/24/2008, -0/+21This ranks up there as one of the DUMBEST political moves McCain has tried so far. If I didn't know any better, I would say McCain has a dangerous gambling addiction - anyone care to have him gamble on the future of America?

Just cut and paste.
"Make your voice heard ... demand the debate http://www.demandthedebate2008.com/" - Proel, on 09/24/2008, -0/+17Daamn, site already up?
The debate is going on anyway, Obama refused to delay it. - anselm83, on 09/24/2008, -3/+16Not only shouldn't we delay this debate, but we need to include Ralph Nader and any other ballot-qualified candidate.
- paintgrl, on 09/25/2008, -0/+13Actually McCain is on none of the committees who have already as of now on Wednesday night have Bi-Partisan agreement. McCain as of now on Wednesday is still in N.Y and will not fly to Washington until Thursday morning. The only thing he can do is try and look good and be a cheer leader and vote.
If this is such a crisis why did he say 9 days ago the fundamentals of the economy were sound? We had this current crisis break a week ago, why did McCain not cancel his campaign then? It is called a Hail Mary pass play. He is trying to look good to get elected. I liked John McCain in 2000, but not now. I think this is his neo-con doppelganger. - inactive, on 09/24/2008, -0/+9McCain's been jumping from gimmick to gimmick every couple of weeks. Choosing Palin gave him a couple of good weeks, but everything else has pretty much backfired... including this.
I have to agree with Obama: a President can multitask. - fatbyjhnsn, on 09/25/2008, -0/+9The most important thing is for America to see how the next president will lead. They must debate!
- seddyei, on 09/25/2008, -0/+8LOL! How fitting... I never knew but I'm not surprised in the least. How typical.
- oldgal, on 09/25/2008, -0/+8Check this out from the "Atlantic Monthly" website"

- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+6McCain is a ***** coward.
- thejimmyo, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5It works just fine for me.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -1/+6Guys, share this with your friends. THEY HAVE TO DEBATE, because everybody knows debates aren't completely meaningless. I mean, here is a list of all the debates that have mattered in the past 50 years:
And a list of all the answers that weren't just canned responses:
So yeah. It's obvious it's more important they repeat their political positions ad nauseum instead of actually trying to fix the problem. - Dalhectar, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5I'd rather not be given a false choice between having a debate and being involved in the conversation to resolve the financial crisis.
- bam359, on 09/25/2008, -1/+6Anyone else get kind of a weird vibe from this site?
I don't know, it just kinda feels like an email address harvesting site. Its probably better to just email the campaigns directly.
I could be wrong, so no bury - but no digg either. - thejimmyo, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5"DEMAND that they enact fundamental reform by repealing Sarbanes-Oxley and the Community Re-development Act, and by eliminating capital gains taxes"
You listen to too much Newt Gingrich. - RevAradia, on 09/24/2008, -5/+9I don't know what's up with that link but when I try to go there it says it's not on the server.
- Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3The most important issue facing America right now is not the financial crisis. It is the selection of the person who will lead us for the next 4 years. This debate is critical in providing Americans the information we need to make an informed decision. The debate is more important and it should go on as planned.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3He stops campaigning this morning and the bail out bill is agreed to already? Has he even got into Washington yet? Will they debate now or hold out until he recovers from all the bleeding and fully brain dumps into Palin, to be able to hold her own in an interview? This is sad. I'm truly embarrassed for him and Palin every time I see a mic in their face and gibberish coming out.
- shutaro, on 09/25/2008, -1/+4Where's my burrito?!?!
- totallyspotless, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3how about demanding a real debate, in which the debaters talk to each other about any subject they want to, and not a glossed over, semi-scripted mupped show?
- nukeleearr, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2as a Canadian I was really really looking forward to watching this debate. I don't know how the ***** McCain can pull this kind of ***** but it's mind boggling. Let Obama debate Palin, I mean isn't doing ***** when the president is in occupied her job description?
- MediaWeasel, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Shared, plus sent to all my US friends over here.
Never heard of such *****. Do the debates, McCain. - BXRWXR, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1Ron's dead baby, Ron's dead.
- nelsonjs, on 09/25/2008, -2/+3Another reason to demand the debate:
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/McCain_Forgot_to ... - inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1Seriously, he says...
- jdefloris, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1My comment:
You, John McCain, are no longer merely a US sentaor, you are asking us to make you our next president in what is perhaps the most troubled moment in our nation's history, after the Civil War. Our country's foundations have been weakened nearly to the point of failure by the combined greed of Wall Street and stupidity, as well as avarice, of our current administration and their helpers on the Hill. With a president at a 19% approval rating, 17% for his handling of the nation's economy, your patriotic duty as a statesman is to take your place on the stage this evening and answer the questions we need asked and tell us what you would do for We, the People as our 44th president. Should you not do this, you will have told us what we need to know in making our decision for whom to vote November 4. - askantik, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1Really? I would've celebrated had I known. I'm not satisfied with either Obama or McCain, but I also don't like Ron Paul. It's annoying how rabid his worshipers are.
- bam359, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1I am going to go ahead and retract this. When I first saw the website it was VERY basic, and clearly it was submitted to digg as a work-in-progress.
Well, work has progressed and it looks way more legit now, so +digg!
Good luck with your getting your debate. Debating the issues is of critical importance in a democracy (or a republic), and having the opportunity to vet your next leader's opinions should be at least as important two more votes in congress. - mickman17, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1You can bet Obama will be there when there is a vote. He is taking the high ground and letting the committess (Banking, Finance, etc) do their job without inject politics into it. John McCain is not a member on any of those committees and can do nothing other than garner some soundbites and photo-ops until there is a vote on the measure..
Wake up and see this for what it is - a very very political attempt by John McCain to put his campaign back together. America first? HA! McCain will claim credit for this as soon as it passes to score points on his campaign trail. It will backfire because America has been forced to wake up due to the crisis - if he believed in America First - then let those on the committess due their work without interfering in the discussion... - mike1630, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1McCain is running away...
- tdrizzle, on 09/25/2008, -1/+1Yeah, what kind of coward would back down from a debate.
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2008/08 ... - Alli3388, on 09/25/2008, -0/+0Obama has no intention of missing the debate... this is mis-titled.
- Airforcefalco, on 09/25/2008, -1/+1The debates are a sham.
This isn't even softball, this is 10 strike kickball. - pjr12345, on 09/25/2008, -2/+1I did hear Newt, but these ideas originated with Jim DeMint.
- Unicorny, on 09/25/2008, -2/+1Obama should invite Nader and have a real debate. I get the feeling that Obama is too afraid though to allow Nader to participate.
- ostracize, on 09/25/2008, -4/+1What for? A "debate" between these two is just a side by side press conference.
- pjr12345, on 09/25/2008, -6/+3Yes, demand the debate. And while you're at it, contact your Congressman and Senator and DEMAND that they stand against the bailout proposed by the Bush Administration. DEMAND that they enact fundamental reform by repealing Sarbanes-Oxley and the Community Re-development Act, and by eliminating capital gains taxes.
- BuryHuffPost, on 09/25/2008, -4/+0It's definitely not a false choice.
The candidates could easily postpone the debate.
And it's not a conversation, it's a debate. There is opposition to the bill and the next president should be aware of arguments on all sides and be there to present his view. Not to mention vote. - pjr12345, on 09/25/2008, -6/+2Has anyone heard any solid information about the impact of not bailing out these private companies? As far as I can tell, the impact will be that those companies will go into bankruptcy, and perhaps fail. As far as the broader economy, and the average person, the only impact will be that credit will become tighter. People who have shoddy credit won't likely get loans. Seems reasonable to me; especially since the leveraging of bad debt is a major cause to the current situation.
NO BAILOUT!!! - TalentedMoron, on 09/24/2008, -9/+4McCain asks for postponing the debate. I got a better idea, how about postponing the election and stick to GWB for four more years.
