As an Iranian-American, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the coverage you have been providing. You and Andrew Sullivan from The Atlantic need to take a bow.
Thank you!!! - mtreder, on 06/18/2009, -2/+30thank you
thank you
thank you - okayokayokay, on 06/18/2009, -3/+29Huffpost seriously needs to win something for their Iran coverage.
- Kaleko, on 06/18/2009, -1/+22CNN, FUX and all the other news whores are becoming obsolete thanks to live-bloggers like Nico Pitney.
All we need is a net connection to be better informed than the pundit bloviators. I haven't watched the news on TV for YEARS.
There's revolution in the air in more than one sense, and we're all participating. Some of us in real time.
It truly is awesome. - arTech, on 06/18/2009, -1/+22Great coverage
- Maddoktor2, on 06/18/2009, -2/+20This one needs to be on the FP - Digg this up!
- vat0r, on 06/18/2009, -3/+20Been glued to the Huff for days now. Thanks Nico for all your hard work.
- sophia137, on 06/18/2009, -3/+19Pulitzer for Pitney - Thanks Nico & HuffPo, you're doing amazing and critically important work.
- digitalhoodie, on 06/18/2009, -3/+18Thank you Huffpost, from the bottom of my heart.
- thehomeless, on 06/18/2009, -1/+15You're making an excellent job. Very impressive ;-)
- CaesarBlue, on 06/18/2009, -1/+11You've done an amazing job! Keep up the good work!
- thetanya, on 06/18/2009, -2/+10WOW YOU ARE A GREAT JOURNALIST! Thank you for the coverage, huff post has become my only news source... I really appreciate the people like you doing this! I also wish we as americans could live up to the standards the iranians are setting... how can we not see these people as our fellow brothers and sisters, fighting for world peace in ways we can only imagine? What if gore could mobilize like that... there would have been no iraq! GO IRANIANS! FIGHT FOR TRUTH! WE ARE WATCHING AND PRAYING WITH YOU! Tears in my eyes when I observe the courage that I see through this coverage.
- YouAreDead, on 06/18/2009, -3/+11IRAN FTW
- CSheikh, on 06/18/2009, -1/+9Nico, as an Iranian-American with most of my close family in the states, I would like to thank you for your coverage. I get most of my news out of Iran from distant friends, which is few and far between. Not only has your blog provided an excellent one-stop shop for Election news, but it has shown that many non-Iranians that only care for human rights and freedoms can make a difference.
- specialK16, on 06/18/2009, -0/+8Now there's something you don't hear everyday.
- Maddoktor2, on 06/18/2009, -2/+9Nico Pitney deserves a Pulitzer Prize.
- SSPink, on 06/18/2009, -0/+6post hoc ergo propter hoc
- fury420, on 06/18/2009, -0/+6you may not need the approval of Islamic Clerics, but you'll likely need the approval of the drug smugglers up in Afghanistan to win.... Hamid Karzai (current president)'s brother is a well known drug trafficker in the region.
Oh.... don't forget that western/US involvement in Iraq & Afghanistan was likely a huge influence on the elections which brought Ahmadinejad to power back in 2005... Nothing like having your sworn enemy invade & occupy two countries near your borders & set up what they would consider puppet regimes to encourage voting for the more conservative/hardline candidate - CardsFaninStLou, on 06/18/2009, -2/+8Pitney and Sullivan deserve massive recognition for the fine work they're doing!
To all of our Iranian and Iranian-American friends, I quote Voltaire: "Man is free at the moment he wishes to be".
This is your moment. - acknotSW, on 06/18/2009, -1/+6If a full revolution is touched off in Iran, then this will truly be a historic event and will change the way governments all over the world view the internet and instant worldwide communication.
I've never been a fan of the huffingtonpost, but they are doing a hell of a job on this one. - TheHIV, on 06/18/2009, -0/+5Though I love the enthusiasm and am a fan of huffpo myself, you shouldn't limit yourself to just huffpo for news. There are many other excellent sources of news out there including the nytimes, bbc, washpo, and the economist. Now admittedly, they have their faults, but all media does, including huffpo. These sources will give you a wider range of issue to look at, different perspectives on them, and greater in depth coverage.
EDIT: Opps, forgot to mention Andrew Sullivan's blog as well. - CSheikh, on 06/18/2009, -0/+5He is doing a great job of disseminating the information and relaying the most corroborated. I am Iranian and have some contacts back home, but that doesn't mean I automatically am sent all of photos, pictures, and stories from there. Since no national news organization is able to openly cover what is happening, services like what Nico, the Lede, the Guardian and so on are extremely important!
- Jymn, on 06/18/2009, -3/+8Best coverage on the web.

- inactive, on 06/18/2009, -1/+4The internet is leading the Iran election coverage. This makes about as much sense as anything I've seen on CNN about Iran. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5doiiGgcGGM
- LemurDaddy, on 06/18/2009, -2/+5Epic analogy fail. If the teabaggers had a tenth of the cause the Iranians have, and a tenth of their clarity, you would have seen massive coverage. By attempting to equate the gripe-fest of a few thousand Glenn Beck supporters with millions crying for freedom, you only succeed in making yourself look foolish.
- lls404, on 06/18/2009, -1/+4I totally agree - a Pulitzer Prize and a huge bonus from Huffington Post. Let's all wish Nico the very best and pray that he stays safe.
- sulthernao, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2Andrew Sullivan: http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_di ...
He has been doing an outstanding job covering it. - younghenry, on 06/18/2009, -2/+3Black Americans are with you Iran protestors, we hear your voices
and all freedom fighters around the world, hear your injustice. Say it, louder . . so even the Angels will deliver your message to God. - absolut4, on 06/19/2009, -1/+2Excellent coverage. I've been following since Saturday morning.
- jjmelch, on 06/18/2009, -2/+3Not too surprising that the little dick-tater is stealing the election. What is surprising is the people are showing some balls and doing something about it. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a no-good little prick and should be shot where he stands.
- SashaHalima, on 06/19/2009, -1/+2Really great job!
- CSheikh, on 06/18/2009, -1/+1Thats Admiral!
- tismondo, on 06/19/2009, -1/+1STAND UP!
- zengaman, on 06/19/2009, -0/+0If there's a crisis happening in the world somewhere, I'll generally turn to CNN. In this case I was profoundly disappointed with their coverage. Aside from the times they aired a segment from Cristian Anampour I've found their coverage of the awakening in Iran to be flaccid and impotent. I am now coming to the realization that it's not their fault and the way that I've been receiving the news thru Twitter's trending topics and Nic Pitney's blog, has somehow evolved my expectation of news delivery. It has to be sinuous, dynamic, always on-call and complete. Thanks for being the Ted Koppel and Tom Brokaw for this crisis Nic. (Somebody give this guy a medal or something!)
- kyloe, on 06/19/2009, -0/+0Unbelieveable, this guy's got more comebacks than Rambo sequels!!
<Dated as of Friday 0500hrs 06/18/2009> - Eaglesontour, on 06/19/2009, -1/+1Some one substantial from Inside the Iranian government, Clerics or Revolutionary Guard needs to publicly stand up and support Mousavi now!!!
- xman8, on 06/19/2009, -3/+2Because liberals hate America the way it is. The Liberal only want THEIR voice to be heard, not differing point of view.
- benologist, on 06/19/2009, -2/+1That's not quite the same as live-blogging, which implies they actually have someone on the ground relaying the news as it happens.
Instead what they have is some wordplay, a gullible audience, and an rss reader showing twitter posts about iran. - xman8, on 06/19/2009, -3/+2Good job Huff. How about doing some real reporting here in the states on the new socialist takeover of the Liberal Extremists?
Never will happen, since real reporting does not really exist in the Huff and Puff world! - inactive, on 06/18/2009, -2/+1Ahmadinejad took power because the moderates boycotted the election.
And just how has that decision been treating the Iranians over the last four years?
What is nice is that even limited democracies hold the population accountable for their decision. See: Gaza.
It seems the Iranians have learned a lesson (unemployment/inflation/life sucks/etc.) - inactive, on 06/18/2009, -3/+1Yes, because Iranians are too stupid to recognize the freedoms Iraqi's now have that they do not.
- benologist, on 06/18/2009, -9/+1They seem to just be regurgitating what they see on twitter and other sites... they have nobody there covering anything.
So they're doing a great job of doing no job really. - wizbor, on 06/18/2009, -11/+2Contrast this with the Tea Party protests in this country.
Why do people hate this country when its people want freedoms from govt yet cheer when foreigners want the same freedoms. - inactive, on 06/18/2009, -16/+3Hmm. I wonder if HuffPo will give W any credit for encircling Iran with two flawed but fledgling Democracies where anyone can run for office without the approval of Islamic clerics?
