- dreamtiger, on 10/10/2007, -8/+56Must see if you missed it on TV. Jon Stewart really nails it in this hilarious video.
- BklynChick, on 10/10/2007, -4/+36Sometimes common sense just hurts so good.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+23jezus! dude, duping unknown stories is one thing. duping stories that were on the the top ten? that's just frickin being a complete idiot.
- ShannaraFan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18To quote my 15-year old son after watching this episode - "My God, we're a stupid country!"
Priceless... - AnaHadWolves, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18Oh, my God! We can't have this kind of truth-telling allowed on US TV. The REAL "truth-squad" will be dispatched soon by the Forces of Darkness in the White House to denounce John Stewart as a "defeatist and elitist San Francisco liberal who hates America"!
God forbid that they actually admit their culpability in this...and all the past...cluster-f*ck of US foreign policy disasters. - wildman082, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17The sad part is that most people don't know the history of the US involvement in the middle east.
- wendelgee2, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15This isn't about this team or that team. It's about pervasively bad foreign policy. He might not get direct licks in on the Democratic administrations because the key events DIDN'T HAPPEN DURING THOSE ADMINISTRATIONS. He's doing a 2-minute piece and needs to highlight the key events. Regardless, the strong implication here is that we have been ***** this region up for at least three generations...and by WE he means the gov't. The totality of the gov't both left and right.
- PATSCRU, on 10/10/2007, -8/+20dr. dupenstein
- kooft, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11What gifts did America bear in Iran when they toppled their fledgling democracy in the 50's? A brutal dictator and a ruthless secret service, that's what. Blame America first? No. Give credit where credit is due? Yes.
- don1one, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I was stationed in Turkey during the Iran hostage situation. No other country, including the Soviet Union, screwed things up as much as the US.
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Just because you didn't learn to be potty trained by age 15 doesn't make his son a baby.
- Stryder81, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Jon Stewart is the man. He really did nail this comedically but brilliantly.
This is why ( whether you like it or not ) Ron Paul preaches that we should have a humble foreign policy as our founders have said we should. Mind our own damn business and unless we're given the o.k. by the congress, watch out own country. - grkgod, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Saudi Arabia is the root of it all. be assured of it. they having been pulling America's puppet strings for a looong time. It's time to stay outta of others affairs and clean up our OWN country.
- Loonacy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6That clip wasn't really bashing Bush, it was bashing past US foreign policy.
The mere fact that you think this was a Bush-bash suggests you suffer from an acute persecution complex. You should really get some therapy for that. - superflyguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Wow. We're already in the 5th year of this war and you can't be troubled to look up the basic history of the U.S.'s relationship with Saddam Hussein? Ever hear of the phrase "willful ignorance?"
In an October 1, 2002, article entitled “Iraq Got Germs for Weapons Program from U.S. in ’80s,” Associated Press writer Matt Kelly wrote,
[The] Iraqi bioweapons program that President Bush wants to eradicate got its start with help from Uncle Sam two decades ago, according to government records that are getting new scrutiny in light of the discussion of war against Iraq.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sent samples directly to several Iraqi sites that U.N. weapons inspectors determined were part of Saddam Hussein’s biological weapons program, CDC and congressional records from the early 1990s show. Iraq had ordered the samples, saying it needed them for legitimate medical research.
The CDC and a biological-sample company, the American Type Culture Collection, sent strains of all the germs Iraq used to make weapons, including anthrax, the bacteria that make botulinum toxin, and the germs that cause gas gangrene, the records show. Iraq also got samples of other deadly pathogens, including West Nile virus.
The transfers came in the 1980s, when the United States backed Iraq in its war against Iran."

- diadin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Funny clip, I little too true for my tastes. I agree with the earlier poster who said it's quite sad most Americans do not know the US history involving the Middle East.
- Jorenko, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6If all the other nations jumped off a bridge, does that mean we should do it too? You're grounded.
- yohnstoppable, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6It is worth duplicating while the exact same article is in the top 10? The only reason this dupe story made it to the front page is due to the fact it was submitted by one of the more prevalent digg users
- sa7ouri, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The sad thing is not that this is happening. The real problem is that Americans have been completely desensitized. Most Americans don't support Bush, believe that Iraq was a mistake and a waste of time and money, etc etc, and every comedian jokes about it. But no ACTION is EVER taken. Besides talking and laughing at the jokes, what is the average American doing? or does he/she really care about and understand the repercussions?
- Stryder81, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Actually, Saudi Arabia is made up of a puppet government that works with the U.S.
Don't let the facade of the " Saudi Royal Family " fool you.
America only goes after the countries it doesn't currently control ( Such as Iraq & Iran ), finds a reason to invade then takes it over. - coloneltcb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I don't care that this is a dupe. Dugg because it's that good.
And obviously there are some people who missed it, judging by the positive comments. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Cheney, is that you? I thought we already threw you out of here?
- physphd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Riiight - it was a spur of the moment thing. There was no history behind the Revolution. Perisans are just mean. The US didn't overthrow Iran's democratically elected government in the early 50s. The US didn't install and support the Shah and his brutal tactics. Since then, the US didn't "accidentally" shoot down an Iranian airliner with almost 300 civilians aboard. The US didn't fund Saddam's decade-long proxy war against Iran, killing almost 900,000 people.
No, wait. The US did do all that and actually has the balls to claim Iran is an aggressor. - borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -8/+12this submission is worth duplicating...get a life.
- scott2007, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6The US sold Iraq less than 0.5% of its arms over a twenty year period according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. Actually, the top three biggest arms suppliers were the USSR (over 70% if I remember correctly, qualifying Hussein as a Soviet ally), France and the PRC (China, kids).
Facts don't come from politicians or political activists, and they shouldn't be in control of writing, or rewriting, history. - Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5It's not "blame America first".
It's "learn from our mistakes". - RanIntoTheDevil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Capitalize the first words in your sentences. Create sentences with all the necessary parts; subject, verb, etc.
- max420, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Who posts their address on Digg for all to see? He's going to get some crazy ass mail now.
- don1one, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yes, but I believe the US sold him the precursors used to create chemical weapons.
I would love to see Hussein's UN report that listed all of the weapons systems and components that he had bought over the years and their sources, which the US immediately had classified and buried. - PhillipL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3and somehow bush found a way to be an even bigger screw up.
- PhillipL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If I thought he could fix it I would elect him. Also I'm pretty sure thou art wrong in using the word thou there.
- krnldmp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3We haven't inherited Anything. Our federal government is taking out loans to pay way beyond retail price for it.
- majinosity, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Sad that this comes from a comedy show, eh?
- Dgen_X, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yeah...but hey...if 50 more people see it this time, I won't mind the duplicate submission as much...
- jmahorney, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I must be one of those stupid and historically ignorant people you speak of, because I don't remember the day in school my teacher taught us when we sold billions of dollars in weapons to this middle eastern country and then later another country. My point is, it might be possible that the government doesn't work hard to get these facts into public school curriculum.
- cybermort, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6oh but goes even further than that.. We are just inheriting problems created after WWI and WWII when Europe though it had the right to divide split and form countries as they wished with complete disregard of culture, ethnicity and history. not to mention that living under colonialist rule after being a power empire was a pretty hard thing to swallow and it just set the tone for the west-hating middle east we have now.
- kreneskyp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3i think so. the ignorance of the American public in this area is alarming to say the least.
- jp007, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That's the problem with truth. Too many people feel it doesn't "taste" right and ignore it.
- Buckiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Since when does being a liberal or a conservative make a difference when drawing conclusions about our "country" (meaning its leadership)
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3And because it points to rawstory.com -- their stuff always seems to clog the front page for some reason.
- ai42, on 10/10/2007, -16/+18And this vindicates what Ron Paul has been saying for quite some time. Our foreign policy is fundamentally flawed.
- arcangelgabriel, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant!!!
- Bodhinature, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The US sold Hussein duel use equipment. The investigation is part of public record. Reagan took Hussein off of the Terrorist State list so that he could sell to them while he was gassing Kurds.
- IllBeBack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Welcome to the world of Digg, where logic does not apply.
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3And it bacame Jon Stewart's job to fix Bush's *****-ups when?
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Very true. The Brits were the ones drawing most of the borders in the Middle East.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Really? So why are so many terrorists running around with AK-47s and RPGs and not M-16s and LAWs?
- ackza, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, this is all heading towards confrontation with Iran, the worst idea in all of history perhaps.
This has to stop NOW. If we as a people allow this to happen, pretty soon US special forces will be antagonizing Iran to cross the border in skrimishes with the kurds (we will probobly already give them weapons to fight the Iranians, oh wait we DO its IRAQ!)
If that happens the US media will be turning towards IRAN, saying "LOOK THEY ARE IN IRAQ! LOOK! WE HAVE TO BOMB THEM"
Who the hell do we think we are? We can not and never will be able to take on IRAN. They are Persia and have been for the last couple thousand years! Although Saudi Arabia is the one supporting probably 99% of terrorists with serious plans of suitcase nukes, dirty bombs etc into the US, Iran may be second, it probably isn't, but if we go in and attack them, thats 3 countries side by side in the middle east we have attempted to invade. And the Islamic world will not take that from us, we will have retaliation but can easily avoid it. IRAN is also HUGE, theres no chance in hell we could ever invade and take out their regime. Wars like this are a thing of the past. WMDs and MAD should prevent these things from happening but I guess these retards believe we should get into a fight with Iran.
and a confrontation in a large scale with IRAN is pretty much Armageddon, so if you guys want f**king Armageddon then go ahead and support these paranoid schizophrenic foreign polices/self fulfilling prophecies. -
