- Hortnon, on 10/11/2007, -5/+115100% here. Though the INS form was a total guess...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+93All I'd have to do is come in illegally and I wouldn't have to worry about a silly test.....
- camintmier, on 10/11/2007, -2/+79I only got 60%. So what, do I get deported now or something?
- eastbrook, on 10/11/2007, -4/+66Ok, I admit it I didn't know which form to fill out to "Petition for Naturalization" - and a handful of others :-)
- rangerjoe8999, on 10/11/2007, -13/+6895% didn't have to look anything up. Missed only question 8.
- umrgregg, on 10/11/2007, -9/+62I got 100%, what do I get? ;)
I only had to guess on the INS form. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+50alright people, i will be the man and be the first to either tell the truth or boldly state that i got lower than a 95% (which apparnently everyone here got, if not a 100)... i got an 80%. there i said it. and im proud. and yes, i did put that the president should declare war. if only my history teacher could see me now.
- vajra918, on 10/11/2007, -0/+41its okay, Bush got that one wrong too.
- chuggies, on 10/11/2007, -11/+486. What are the first 10 amendments to the Constitution called?
-The Preamble
-The Bill of Rights
-First Ten Amendments
-Lewis “Scooter” Libby ....uhmmm.. WTF?!?? - llamabox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+37New Zealand? Really now?
- KyleGoetz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+36Agreed. What the ***** was up with that INS question? I mean, it's like asking, "What tax form is required if you need to file for an extension if your military leave is denied for 3.14159 years?" I missed only that one, and I'm still sore about it.
- thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -3/+32Unfortunately no.
:-D - jessicah628, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28No, the president appoints the justices, Congress just has to approve them, they don't select them.
- tb0n3r, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26Your citizenship has been revoked. An agent will be along shortly to strip you of your property, and throw your ass to either Canada or Mexico, depending on how brown or white you appear. Thank you.
- macaddct1984, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2270% as a British citizen in the US.
Guess I need to study a bit more before I take my naturalization test this year... - intense321, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22Umm.. I actually had to take this test, in order to become a citizen.. 100% for me, as a result.
- Coven, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2695%. I too got the INS form question wrong. But if you were truly applying for naturalization, couldn't you just look at the top of the form to get that question right? It is like getting 200 points on the SATs just for writing your name and the date correctly. I want to push for the citizenship test to be given to every American of voting age. Those who fail, get the boot. Its that simple. So many Americans are completely ignorant to how our government works. It really is pathetic.
- jessicah628, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22No, it's really not vague. It's not as if Congress gets a list of possible appointees that they can select from. The President selects them, the Congress approves or disapproves.
- kahlessreborn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21Question 18 cracks me up:Who has the power to declare war? We haven't had a declared war since World War 2, Korea was a UN Police action and since Vietnam the Wars Powers act makes sending troops to any country easy as Pie.
- jessicah628, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20I don't think there's any reason to know that unless you were actually going through the process. I had no idea either.
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Really, all you need to have is common sense to pass it. "what were the first 13 states? A. New york, New Zealand...."
- PinkoCommie, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1875%... And I'm Canadian! Watch a lot of US television shows though...
- strat94, on 10/11/2007, -11/+25Wonder what our Prez would get on this test. Something tells me #18 would throw him for a loop...
18. Who has the power to declare war?
Congress
The president
Chief justice of the Supreme Court
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - bashar129, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14I'll rephrase what I said. "Answer D had 14 locations listed"
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13if only i could digg you up twice
- swordedge, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15The only one I got wrong was the immigration form. But then, never needed to know that.
- res2, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15nope, just makes you a dumb *****.
- thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Congratulations! Welcome to the USA...
You now have every right in the world to bitch about how poorly the country is run as we do now!
;-) - Leadhyena, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14It's a common misconception; how do you think Bush got so much support for his speeches threatening war on Iraq? If this is news to you as well (that Congress alone has the authority to declare war), imagine how Congress must have felt about it, and how embarassed they must feel now, deep down.
- jessicah628, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Which one? There's more than one question on the Supreme Court.
- Sliver85, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Same here too. Only one seemed about right on the INS form one.
Of course, I did just get done with U.S. history in school ;). - Hortnon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11"..by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court,..."
- fixty, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11i laughed out loud at that one too :)
- Hortnon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Assuming you know New Zealand is not a US state, of course.
- knde, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1185% and I'm British :-)
For the most part, anyone who keeps up with the news should know the answers to these questions (coupled with a basic course in U.S History like I got in secondary school).
I was thrown by the number of representatives in Congress and some of the Constitution questions. - DivisibleByZero, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10DC's not a state!
- Leomarth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Overall, I would agree. However, it is one of the quotes that gives the flavor of the so-called "American Spirit". So I can see why some bureaucrat may want people coming to the country to know it.
Is it necessary? Not really. - spooky47, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Same. 100% with a lucky guess on the INS question. Since the title of the test says "Do you have what it takes to become a citizen?", I assume I'll be sent to fight giant bugs.
- dmoney06, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10um no we don't.
- Leomarth, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Basic knowledge of US history?
- SillyRabbits, on 10/11/2007, -0/+914 isn't a trick. There's a pretty big difference between select and confirm. Then again, I've been out of school for a while. Maybe they've stopped teaching the idea that words have specific meanings. Oh well.....
- ZachS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Well - that one is kinda easy, just look at the numbers. You should know that the Bill of Rights contains no information about voting. The bill of rights are amendments 1-10. So the 7th amendment should easily stick out.
- stroupnp, on 10/11/2007, -6/+14I really wonder how the score results would differ if this quiz were posted on FoxNews.com instead.
- bobpaul, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8But they /did/ come for religious freedom. That our freedoms are fading doesn't change the fact that they felt persecute in europe so came to the new world.
- Incom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7this test reflects very little of how the government works, so i dont really view that comment as applicable to the test, although i do agree
- Leadhyena, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Same thing (scored 100%, guessed on the INS form as well)... I'm guessing that they pulled these questions from the INS immigration exam because of that question alone. I'm a pretty good test-taker, yet I don't see how anyone born in the US should get below a 70%.
- razor150, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Just because you don't know the answer doesn't make the question stupid.
- insomniac8400, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8All the damn foreigners that want in?
- DrTall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Wow, I must have missed those extra 80 questions on the test! See, I thought there were only 20 so -1 would be 95% not 99%. Glad you're in our country.
- ishwarchand, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6It has been 9 since like a century now, and even though the Congress can change it any day they want, nobody is gonna do anything.
