- brett1337, on 07/30/2008, -2/+397dont ***** with youtube, Mr Pogan
- chumprock, on 07/30/2008, -1/+296Best part of the Complaint is the end:
"False statements made herein are punishable as a class A misdemeanor pursuant to section 210.45 of the penal law"
Forget just taking his badge, arrest the cop and book him. - spiritflare1, on 07/30/2008, -4/+274
cop clearly assaults him:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhxjxAMQXpY - mrmayor92, on 07/30/2008, -46/+286news flash: cops are *****
- kertong, on 07/30/2008, -0/+219"The People of New York", against Christopher Long?
I can imagine Mr. Long, critical [m]ass biker or not, is eternally grateful that this footage found its way to youtube - otherwise, he would have no way to counter these charges and prove his innocence, and he would have a hell of a time finding a job. - bigredgpk, on 07/30/2008, -1/+202That is just ***** up... The bike rider was clearly turning away from the officer to avoid him.
- spinsane13, on 07/30/2008, -4/+169i was involved in a police brutality case (as a witness)
and the five drunken off duty cops made up whatever they wanted/needed to get them off the hook
like blatant, out of the blue fabrications in their statements, and their lies didn't even match-
and while the evidence of the case showed their stories as such total *****
they still got off without even a reprimand
while the victim has brain damage
the moral: don't ***** with the cops. they ARE above the law. - tbechtx, on 07/30/2008, -0/+124What an idiot! The video doesn't lie. It is quite evident that the cop pursued and assaulted the bicyclist.
- pointsguy, on 07/30/2008, -0/+117I can't believe the cyclist used his face to assault the cop's elbow. Shame on him!
- heiroglyph, on 07/30/2008, -6/+102I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt a few days ago, but clearly he is just the stereotypical power-tripping cop.
Way to go *****, make the (few?) good cops look bad. - fitqueenb, on 07/30/2008, -2/+96That cop has serious ego issues but that video, it was like he took him out on purpose, stepped right in to the cyclist.
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -10/+103Stupid Fat ***** of a Cop.
Another reason to pay attention in school kids. This could be you in 20-30 years. - ayeroxor, on 07/30/2008, -0/+89A cow orker of mine used to be a border control agent. I showed him the video and reasonably enough he said, "Well, you don't see what the bicyclist did off-screen. I'd like to think we can give cops the benefit of the doubt."
Then I read him the police report. He said, "Oh, ooook. Yeah, he should be in a cell."
Kudos to the videographer for helping to take down yet another dirty cop. While I'd still like to believe 5% of cops give the rest a bad name, I'm afraid I'm starting to believe the jokes that say the inverse.
ps why the ***** is my reply box resizing up and down over and over again? - Spudster, on 07/30/2008, -0/+79Scary to think how easy it is for police to abuse their power.
- zyklon, on 07/30/2008, -31/+94Negative. It's cops like THAT that are *****. There's good cops out there, trust me.
- LeeB, on 07/30/2008, -10/+73Boy, what a stinker.
- Ne007, on 07/30/2008, -1/+63Good thing this was video tapped. Otherwise that kid would be screwed. He should be one rich kid after all is said and done. I'd be getting bigtime lawyers.
Our government and the law is getting out of control. They forget that they are here to serve us!
Let this inspire us to let them know that! - zyklon, on 07/30/2008, -1/+62While I can usually see both sides to the excessive force stories, I can't support the cop on this one. I've seen the video. Video evidence is the WORST thing a cop can have if he blatantly did something ***** up, and he definitely DID do something ***** up. He went out of his way to knock the kid off his bike, and that's just wrong. Lying about it is worse, and I can't wait to see how this pans out. It's cops like that, that give GOOD cops a bad name.
- ghuytro, on 07/30/2008, -4/+61It seems that whenever something is caught on videotape it's really, really ***** egregiously bad.
Makes you wonder the kind of really scary, life-wrecking stuff that goes on that is never caught on tape where the word of the police is taken over the word of the victim.
THAT'S what is pissing people off here.
Everyone goes around saying "there's good cops out there, trust me" and that's exactly why cops will even have the nerve to pull the ***** like that with this poor cyclist and why 99 times out of 100 they'll get away with it.
***** that. - barc0001, on 07/30/2008, -1/+56As I said in another forum, this shouldn't be a misdemeanor, it should be a felony, punishable with jail time as a minimum sentence.
- PabloMac, on 07/30/2008, -1/+54Yes, his new title is "Mr." as opposed to "Officer."
- dougmc, on 07/30/2008, -0/+53The video didn't appear on the Internets until sunday or so. That paperwork that the cop filled out, he probably had to fill out friday night. So, when he filled it out, my guess is that he had no idea that his actions had been filmed. Witnessed, sure, but he's fully aware that people will take a cop's word over others most of the time.
My guess is that the NYPD or NYC will indeed offer the victim a settlement in exchange for not pressing charges/suing. But the cop wasn't going to do that on friday -- on friday, it was just another day on the job for him. He was probably even bragging to his friends that night about how he slammed the hell out of some punk on a bike ... because it was a pretty impressive slam. - jlakser49, on 07/30/2008, -39/+86Patrick E. Pogan Jr. is a 22-year-old (born 9/9/85) NYC

do your thing digg - squarepegs, on 07/30/2008, -0/+46And if the camerman had continued filming the arrest, $20 says he would have been arrested too, charged with interfering with police business. The camera would have been seized as evidence and the video would magically disappear.
This is exactly why cases like this (against the cop) need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, because it's rare that we get an objective side of the story. - alamedaman, on 07/30/2008, -1/+43thank god for the internets otherwise pigs like this and others would continue stomping their jackboots upon the people with no recourse
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+42...and that's AFTER the cop clearly made a deliberate effort to walk into the cyclist's original path.
- budgetguitar, on 07/30/2008, -0/+41That story about the police denying applicants because they had too HIGH of an IQ makes alot of sense now.
You didn't have to lie on the police report piggy. Police aren't supposed to lie. How are we supposed to trust you if you lie, coppers? - stayputnik, on 07/30/2008, -0/+40funny story... the biker was actually charged with assault, along with half a dozen other completely bogus offenses.
no wait, not funny... the other thing... uh... fascist! - chaos7, on 07/30/2008, -9/+48some: yes
all: no - DrewBlood, on 07/30/2008, -0/+37Wouldn't that be in the report?
- toonworld, on 07/30/2008, -1/+38last line from the report: "False statements made herein are punishable as a class A misdemeanor pursuant to section 210.45 of the penal law."
210.45 - Making a punishable false written statement.
A person is guilty of making a punishable false written statement when he knowingly makes a false statement, which he does not believe to be true, in a written instrument bearing a legally authorized form notice to the effect that false statements made therein are punishable. Making a punishable false written statement is a class A misdemeanor.
Class A and class U misdemeanors are punishable by up to 1 year in jail.

Even if they lower the sentence and he does no jail time, he's still gonna lose his job. He deserves no less. - rolandvvv, on 07/30/2008, -0/+33did you watch the video, or are you talking out of your ass?
- barc0001, on 07/30/2008, -2/+35Yes, because the guy who got knocked down was obviously exactly the same person who's pissed you off.
- southwestnut, on 07/30/2008, -2/+35It seems that that would be assault and battery on the part of the cop. The cyclist was swerving to avoid the "officer" and the "officer" took a cheap swipe that could have landed some serious injuries. As a cyclist, I cringe when I see another cyclist hit the ground. People, the best was I can describe falling off a bike at speed is to drive 20 + mph, strip down to you underwear(bout the same protection that spandex offers) and jump out of your moving vehicle. It hurts like heck, I know for I have been on the ground a few times.
Cops like that are pathetic. Try that to a bike cop and see how many bullets fly your way. - SpectralSounds, on 07/30/2008, -1/+34Yes, because we all know there has never been any issues with police anywhere other than NYC.
- stephenhacking, on 07/30/2008, -3/+34Instead he could have considered paying the cyclist and asking him not to press charges.
- SpectralSounds, on 07/30/2008, -4/+34@drunkmonkey01
You seem to be missing the point. What would have happened to the cop if there wasn't a video?
I'll tell you. He probably would have gotten a commendation for ridding the streets of evil bikers. - Hangly, on 07/30/2008, -0/+29dugg for "cow orker"
- PleaseJustDie, on 07/30/2008, -6/+35Its more like this: Some PEOPLE are *****. Last I checked, all cops are people and so the fact that some cops are ***** should be pretty well expected.
- YodaJones, on 07/30/2008, -8/+36It looks like a prerequisite for ANY position at any government office or job in the United States is that you be a lying sack of *****.
- catcher6250, on 07/30/2008, -1/+29the biker is wearing high black socks with shorts. that is the only motive i can give to the cop for knocking him down
- reuscel, on 07/30/2008, -1/+28Another one of New York's finest. I hope this cockstain never gets another job that gives him any measure of authority. He obviously doesn't know how to handle it.
- jimmies, on 07/30/2008, -1/+27To clarify, the cop batters him. Assault is placing someone in the apprehension of a battery. Battery is actually battering someone, which is what the cop did.
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -6/+31When pigs fly..... er I mean lie.
- EruditeGoof, on 07/30/2008, -2/+27An oinker too.
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -2/+26So in other words, it's wrong for people to voice negative opinions about people who abuse their powers, break the law, then lie about it to cover it up?
What the ***** are we supposed to do, elect 'em to office? - Pinkertinkle, on 07/30/2008, -0/+22What's sad is that without the video the cop woulda gotten away with it. Just think how many of these incidents go unpunished.
Boo to bad cops. - thesonofdarwin, on 07/30/2008, -3/+25Personal information on law breakers is given daily in newspapers. It is posted on the internet by government agencies. This is nothing new. His being a police officer doesn't shield him from the results of being a criminal. Well, it does, but it shouldn't.
- sindex, on 07/30/2008, -1/+22Dear Patrick Pogan, Jr.:
***** you, your lies, and the badge you hide behind.
Sincerely,
