- MercyPolitics, on 10/28/2008, -0/+10George W. Bush is the ultimate anti-alchemist, he has managed to turn a once flourishing economy and country into a pile of misery, death & excrements. He will be in the pantheon of the worst US Presidents ever as number one, way above Hoover and Taft.
- MorganMghee, on 10/28/2008, -0/+4I think what they're calling 'low consumer confidence' is really 'consumers rational reaction to a downturn economy'. It's exactly what people should do, it's exactly what anyone managing finance should do in a similar situation. If they wanted to ensure our continued spending spree, they should have worked harder to stabilize the economy instead of running wild in pools of profit. Even now, many corporations are reacting to the economy by closing locations, laying off hourly and low level management and cutting production lines. When the best long term benefits would come from trimming from the top down, taking from those that can most afford it. They are fewer, resulting in the least harm to the economy with the highest total savings. But, since the people effected by this plan ARE the people making the decision....well... it doesn't happen.
