- bookelly, on 10/02/2009, -45/+473Stay classy there Republicans.
- theuniversal, on 10/03/2009, -42/+441Politics aside, if you cheer when a US city loses an Olympic bid, you are a first class *****.
- parisii, on 10/02/2009, -40/+363These idiots. Unemployment rate at 9.6%, and that doesn't count people who are working in part time jobs who want full time employment.
They celebrate that the U.S. didn't get a bid for the Olympic Games - with all the jobs that would create,
...all the good will the games generate, which the U.S. could use since it now has deemed torture acceptable, in spite of the Geneva Conventions...
I am so disgusted with this *****.
People need jobs. People need to see this nation decide to MOVE FORWARD and not remain hostage to the stupid, nihilistic, greedy-as-***** Armageddonites. - newfrickinshow, on 10/03/2009, -25/+251Remember a few years ago when we had to listen to Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh going on and on about liberals 'wanting America to fail' because it would make Bush look bad. I for one didn't want Bush to fail, I just assumed that he would based upon his history. When I was right it was bittersweet, bitter because the coutry was in an even worse state and sweet because everyone likes to be right. I never routed for him to fail though, and I didn't know anyone who did.
We now see why they made these accusations; projection! Republicans on the other hand, were openly routing against America and celebrating failure for the sole reason that it was a knock to Obama. Jobs gone, money lost, prestige down the drain, and the guarenteed competitor the host coutry gets in every event is dead. But Obama lost so let's party! That's why the right's definition of loyalty is supporting something when it suits your own beliefs. - Insightful, on 10/02/2009, -25/+235Those people equate patriotism with wearing flag pins and putting on yellow ribbons.
One of them also believe she can do MORE by quitting being a governor and writing a book.
A delegation of Republican lawmakers are in Honduras now meeting with the military leaders that overthrew a democratically elected President in a coup.
This is today's conservative movement.
Pathetic. - brucealmighty, on 10/02/2009, -30/+212Just like Orwell predicted....Losing is Winning and Winning is Losing for certain groups of warped people.
- kanvas, on 10/03/2009, -22/+171I agree this is disgusting to listen to. Your mind has to be paralyzed by hate to react this way.
Is it *really* that hard to stop hating the messenger and evaluate events objectively? Not everything is automatically bad just because you don't like Obama. - charm803, on 10/03/2009, -17/+137If Obama hadn't gone out of his way to make a bid for the Olympics, they would most likely be going on and on about how Obama hates America because he didn't try hard enough to host it here.
- joculator, on 10/03/2009, -16/+127I caught part of the Glen Beck show and part of the Steve Malzberg show - they were absolutely ecstatic....one joke after another in glee...real trash. It's nice to see the GOP has started a cottage industry of people who celebrate every time the President unsuccessfully attempts to improve a situation. They really are worse than the Democrats of the early 90's.
- jk33l, on 10/03/2009, -11/+116I thought it was "Country First"? I guess it's party first for them.
- ricksite, on 10/03/2009, -3/+104It sounds like Chicago didn't really have a chance. I don't think Obama helped or hurt it. Europe and the US have both hosted many Olympics. The IOC felt it was time to bring South America into the fold. I think the only way Chicago would have had a chance is if it relocated to South America.
- Verchiel77, on 10/03/2009, -3/+102Don't feed the troll.
- bubbashine, on 10/03/2009, -7/+87Before: Questioning the wars was unpatriotic ... criticizing the president was grounds for treason ... all conservative pols required to wear a flag pin ... "Freedom Fries" -- don't ask, France, we're always right.
After: Wave the "Don't Tread On ME" instead of the American Flag ... complete disrespect for office of president ... no flag pins in sight ... openly suggesting military coups against the Republic ... applauding when we lose the olympics.
The conservative style of "patriotism" is a political tactic. - MWeather, on 10/03/2009, -5/+79"Excuse me, but which party is it that wants the state to have control over your medical decisions?"
Neither. Both want doctors in control. The issue is who pays. How can people keep getting this so wrong? It's been all over the news IN DETAIL, yet you can't even get the basic facts right. Do you have a learning disability or something? - catalysis, on 10/03/2009, -9/+79@madtechnologist
The coup leaders have suspended freedom of the press and freedom of assembly. It's a ***** dictatorship. Why are conservatives supporting dictators? - stubear, on 10/03/2009, -18/+86It wouldn't have the racism-laced hatred we're seeing today. Face it, Bush's criticism was earned through stupid foreign policy and failed leadership on domestic policy. We're stuck in two wars at the moment and if you listen to the Conservatives today you'd think Obama started them and is leading the charge Zulu style. The hatred of Obama is fueled by inner racist hate and it's scary because they are purposefully provoking the masses through their influential media outlets.
- seltaeb4, on 10/03/2009, -11/+78Politics included, if you cheer when a US city loses an Olympic bid, you are a super-duper first class *****.
- algaeturd, on 10/03/2009, -2/+68Repost from Dagnabbit: (bears repeating)
They would rather cheer against America and this President than show an ounce of national pride. They would also rather forget this little announcement from 2008:
THE PRESIDENT: I want to thank the members of the 2016 Chicago bid to get the Olympics. Listen, Mr. Mayor, you and your committee have put together a great plan. It's a plan that will make America proud.
They say that the Olympics will come to Chicago if we're fortunate enough to be selected, but really it's coming to America, and I can't think of a better city to represent the United States than Chicago.
And so I -- this country supports your bid, strongly. And our hope is that the judges will take a good look at Chicago and select Chicago for the 2016 Olympics.
-President George W. Bush
http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news/re ... - xexx, on 10/03/2009, -10/+75Uh, No it wouldn't have been and it wasn't, Rice went to push for the 2012 olympics and failed, you didn't see this kind of stuff at all.
- wwwonka, on 10/03/2009, -21/+84Um, no it wouldn't have been. It would have been this, "oh well, we're all Americans. It would have been nice to have the Olympics and join together as one in our country."
- crackerjohn, on 10/03/2009, -6/+66I hope you rot in hell...nuff said
- Subduction, on 10/03/2009, -15/+75No, you are revising history. Fox News and its soldiers were on the attack when Bush was in power, calling anyone who disagreed with them treasonous, and they are still on the attack now, and desperation has removed any shred of human decency or restraint.
Just to paint the whole situation with the same cynical brush is anti-intellectual -- the outright lies and slander being used in the so-called "mainstream" press by the right as simple day-to-day political tactics are unprecedented.
Just for fun, I challenge you to try to come up with something, anything, that the right has felt was too hateful and divisive to say about the left in pursuit of their goals. That we are murders? Treasonous? Not citizens? Aiding an abetting terrorists? Please -- tell me one outrageous accusation that the right decided was too over the top to put on the largest news network in the country.
The fact is that they've said them all, and they're running out of things to say. So now they're moving on to lying about facts and trying to figure out how to say them with even more venom. Some of advocated a military overthrow of the government, some bring guns to public rallies.
I know it's fashionable to say that it's just one big dirty business, but since the election the right has shown us the worst in human nature. - joculator, on 10/03/2009, -4/+63Scum.
- inactive, on 10/03/2009, -5/+64That tight leather dress must be constricting the blood flow to your brain.
- anarcurt, on 10/03/2009, -7/+61I'm glad Rio won. Tokyo has hosted already, they were even going to use some of the same facilities. US hosted in 96 and had the winter games recently as well. Spain also recently hosted with Barcelona in 92. I say let Rio have their day. Also, Chicago is so corrupt that the money would be wasted away, it would probably go over budget by 2-3x. The Pakistani IOC member also got in a good dig by asking if the athletes would even be able to get into America.
These guys shouldn't be celebrating this as an Obama fail but we will really be better off without the games. - doublestuforeo, on 10/03/2009, -10/+64Conservatives only love American when they run it. ***** babies.
- Speed, on 10/03/2009, -4/+56If that isn't sarcasm, I hope the recession bitch slaps you hard. If your business fails and you end up on the street, you damn well better not apply for help, since you've spoken out against that kind of welfare. I hope you die on the street while people walking past you scoff at the idea of giving you change.
- LilJimmyNordin, on 10/03/2009, -10/+60You have no idea what you're talking about. Do a little more research and think for yourself instead of being spoonfed every thought by Beck and Limbaugh. The doctors will be in control. Not insurance companies, not government. You're sick? It gets dealt with and paid for. Period. To suggest anything else makes you a liar, an idiot or both.
- MWeather, on 10/03/2009, -5/+54"The group controlling the spending makes the decisions, period."
If that were the case, then we have a choice between someone who has a financial incentive to deny treatment, and someone who doesn't have a financial incentive to deny treatment.
Can you explain why the former is better than the latter? - DangerCollie, on 10/03/2009, -5/+54"I for one didn't want Bush to fail"
I didn't want to see Bush fail. I wanted him to get bored and quit, just like he did with everything else in his life. But Sarah Palin picked up that mantel now. - avshanbh, on 10/03/2009, -14/+61Lowest point wasn't Chicago losing the Olympics but conservatives cheering on the loss. Why do conservatives hate America?
- TheSwashbuckler, on 10/03/2009, -2/+49Has been for a long time now.
- Speed, on 10/03/2009, -6/+53Then take back conservativism. When the left goes into the fringe, the sane ones are always charged by the right to take it back, so why isn't it the same for you? If you're sick of being identified with Limbaugh or Beck, work on minimizing their ability to speak for the right.
- BrownieMix, on 10/03/2009, -37/+82We have two ***** wars going on and they're sad about Olympics not being in Chicago?
- AiR1890, on 10/03/2009, -1/+46Did anyone hear, the Olympics went to Rio De Janeiro because the Olympics have never been in South America. I am glad they got it, Brazil is a beautiful country, with beautiful women.
- rangah, on 10/03/2009, -6/+49*****.
Which is better: Public run healthcare OR NO HEALTHCARE? Why don't you understand THAT? It's an OPTION. If you don't want to use it - YOU DO NOT HAVE TO. It's more important for you to NOT HAVE THE OPTION than for others to have healthcare AT ALL? You are selfish and worthless. GTFO my country. - ParticleMan420, on 10/03/2009, -13/+55"Why are conservatives supporting dictators?"
Like attracts like. - IphtashuFitz, on 10/03/2009, -16/+57What do you bet that if Chicago had gotten the Olympics that the Republicans would be yelling for a boycott?
- Subduction, on 10/03/2009, -6/+47I can't believe that these were the people during the Bush/Cheney administration that were repeatedly setting themselves up as the paragon of those who loved their country, to the point of accusing anyone disagreeing with them of committing treason.
We see now that the only thing they really loved was being in a position of power in the country, and now that it's no longer true they'll do anything to get it back, or if not they're more than happy to burn it to the ground. - jahurt, on 10/03/2009, -4/+44norman619:
"Bush kept his butt home doing his job of running the country"
Well, you have half of it right. Bush spent over 1/3 of his presidency on vacation.
http://tinyurl.com/6foqrx - MWeather, on 10/03/2009, -2/+41"You are so wrong. It is not an option."
Yes it is, you can either get private insurance, or use the public option. Whether or not insurance in general is required is another issue entirely.
"If you choose NOT to have health care, you will be fined $1,900.00."
Good. That will at least offset some of the costs of treating you when you do get sick or injured. So long as we require hospitals to treat your deadbeat ass you should at least pay some penalty for increasing costs for everyone else.
Don't you believe in paying your own way, or do you just expect the rest of us to pay for you and do nothing to penalize you? - stubear, on 10/03/2009, -6/+44"Too many liberal diggers assume the loudest of those claiming to be a Republican or conservative therefore represents all they label so."
Just remember this when you accuse someone of being liberal.
@speed, ***** that, we need to take back the political conversation from both sides. It's time to remove the whining cry babies and focus on the job...serving the American public, not the American lobbyists and corporations. - monodelasno, on 10/03/2009, -4/+41Digg readers are easily trolled. Congrats.
- jdenzer, on 10/03/2009, -3/+39@normn619
"Bush kept his butt home doing his job of running the country."
So how do you explain Bush's 4 day trip to Beijing Olymics to be a spectator?
I guess he left his butt behind and the rest of him went?
While the country was fighting 2 wars and a failing economy.
I guess this is photoshopped, right?
http://kreuzer33.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/bush- ... - malex, on 10/03/2009, -5/+40At the risk of belaboring the obvious, this article isn't about cheering Brazilians.
- MisteryMeat, on 10/03/2009, -4/+38"Sorry, but the Dems have to eat this one alone"
No, they don't. The rest of the world doesn't give a rats ass about your Democrat vs. Republican baby games. America lost on this one and some twisted bastards who pretend to be patriotic are excited about it. - rattler72, on 10/03/2009, -1/+35How is this really an "Obama" failure? Obama was one piece of the Olympic bid and as far as I've ever known, there are a whole bunch of factors that go into a bid. Having a leader pitching your bid is icing on the cake but that's it. This is more of a Rio success than a Chicago fail. Timing is really everything, and Rio deserved it this time around.
- mapyqf, on 10/03/2009, -8/+41Conservatives disgust me. As an independent, every single thing that has happened since Obama got elected pushes me farther left. Next chance I get I will vote straight Democrat out of spite (and intelligence).
- N01SE, on 10/03/2009, -0/+33It's futile. If Obama climbed up a tree to bring down a stranded kitten, repubs would probably say "why is he wasting time trying to save that kitten when Americans are unemployed!?" Nothing he does will ever see approval from the opposition because they didn't vote for him, don't waste your breath, their minds were made up about *all* of his policies long before he made any of them.
Congrats to Brazil and Rio De Janeiro! -
