I for one didn't want Bush to fail, I just assumed that he would based upon his history. When I was right it was bittersweet, bitter because the coutry was in an even worse state and sweet because everyone likes to be right. I never routed for him to fail though, and I didn't know anyone who did.
We now see why they made these accusations; projection! Republicans on the other hand, were openly routing against America and celebrating failure for the sole reason that it was a knock to Obama. Jobs gone, money lost, prestige down the drain, and the guarenteed competitor the host coutry gets in every event is dead. But Obama lost so let's party! Spain also recently hosted with Barcelona in 92. I say let Rio have their day. Also, Chicago is so corrupt that the money would be wasted away, it would probably go over budget by 2-3x. The Pakistani IOC member also got in a good dig by asking if the athletes would even be able to get into America.

Obama was one piece of the Olympic bid and as far as I've ever known, there are a whole bunch of factors that go into a bid. Having a leader pitching your bid is icing on the cake but that's it. This is more of a Rio success than a Chicago fail. Timing is really everything, and Rio deserved it this time around.
