- seltaeb4, on 05/22/2009, -22/+352No one accepts their fake, unaccredited, corpse-of-Jerry-Falwell toilet paper ***** diplomas anyway.
- IrishJoe, on 05/22/2009, -5/+255Jerry Falwell's ironically named "Liberty" University won't allow its students to have a Democratic Party club, although they can have a Republican Party club. And yet, they are tax exempt and they accept students with government grants and loans. Imagine that. LU is partly funded by US taxpayers so that they can prevent their students from having any other point of view than the Republican one. Our tax dollars at work.
- 8FoldPath, on 05/22/2009, -11/+206What do people expect...conservatives to accept other people's points of view?
- ZeeZee2k, on 05/23/2009, -6/+169"...I would strongly encourage any members of Liberty University who may be here, to leave and go to a proper university"
-Richard Dawkins - sugarazor, on 05/23/2009, -6/+155‘You can’t be a Democrat and be a Christian..."
At least they're not even trying to hide the fact that Republicans have hijacked Jesus. - XtheXlanternX, on 05/23/2009, -4/+145The saddest part of all this is that I have family members who actually went to this school and send alumni contributions to it. I like to forget I know them but I can't when the university continues to do stupid things like this and reminds me just how tainted my family tree is. In addition to this attack on free speech, they also teach the earth is 6000 years old and that pretty much all modern science is 100% wrong. I confronted one of my cousins about this one day. I said, "Do they really teach people there that the earth is only 6000 years old?" He looked at me like I was the stupidest person on the face of the earth and said, "Of course. Its the truth and its what we believe." Before that, I had held out hope that he didn't really believe all that stuff... :(
- IrishJoe, on 05/22/2009, -7/+126Actually the Bush Administration hired a lot of LU graduates. Many of them in the Justice Department. Most are still in the government because their jobs were transferred from appointee to career positions. We may be stuck with them for a long time.
- readacook, on 05/23/2009, -8/+121Their acceptance rate is 94.3%.
The only thing easier to get into is your mom. - IrishJoe, on 05/22/2009, -6/+80But they are tax exempt and take federal funds in the form of accepting students with government grants and loans. If they wanted to pay their taxes and not accept any taxpayer money, then I'd agree with you. But they are partly funded by the taxpayers.
- novenator, on 05/23/2009, -13/+85Further proof that conservatives hate freedom, justice, and the American way.
- MWeather, on 05/23/2009, -0/+71"Being tax exempt doesn't prevent them from banning political groups. "
Yes, it does. If you are a tax exempt religious institution politics is off limits or you loose your tax exempt status. - iloveoz, on 05/23/2009, -4/+69I even know some right wing conservatives who are upset by this because they see how dangerous it is to stifle debate. Sure, it is a private university and they have the right to do whatever they want, but it doesn't mean it's right. A university, no matter what it's affiliation is, should be encouraging debate, not eliminating viewpoints they don't agree with.
- jitterbits, on 05/23/2009, -8/+73They deny the existence of evolution. Is it that surprising that they deny the existence of democrats, too? ;)
I have an online acquaintance who attends Liberty and is (was) in that club, and she is pissed off. Way to keep people in "the flock", LU.
and video story: http://www.wset.com/news/stories/0509/625307_video ... - LeftieLucy, on 05/23/2009, -5/+68Brian Diaz, Liberty University's Democratic Party club president, will be on the Rachel Maddow show tonight - I'll be watching.
- deepikaur, on 05/23/2009, -3/+64“We are in no way attempting to stifle free speech.”
Then what exactly are you attempting to do?
This is silly. I wonder how Republicans would react had a Liberal
University banned the Repub Club? - djgfx, on 05/22/2009, -15/+74this outrageous and needs to reach the front page!
- seltaeb4, on 05/23/2009, -1/+59One could also argue that Napoleon Bonaparte invented the microchip, that Albert Einstein invaded China to confiscate 100,000 vats of butterscotch pudding on behalf of Alexander the Great, and that George Washington leapt from the Tower of London only to alight upon Notre Dame Cathedral in central Germany, years before it was relocated to Paris.
One could argue that.
One could also be a ***** idiot. - XtheXlanternX, on 05/23/2009, -7/+62I am not a member of either party, but I find it hard to believe that the Dems are so revolting to god yet the Republicans are the chosen ones. Republicans have started many wars which has led to undue suffering all over the world. Republican economic policy has contributed to massive increases in wealth disparity all over the world. Republicans support the death penalty (pro-life is for babies, not for people in jail right? that is certainly the Christian way).
I can see how the Dems could be revolting to the jesus, but I can't see how the Republicans aren't as well.
(Oh and we all know Jesus was a huge capitalist... you know all the moneylenders in the temples and all) - Garmonbozzia, on 05/23/2009, -3/+54What's a holocaust?
Sorry. I went to Liberty University. - Maddoktor2, on 05/23/2009, -5/+55Nothing good ever came from Jerry Falwell.
- Bhima, on 05/23/2009, -1/+50I have a younger cousin who is not all that bright who was just accepted to Liberty. My Mother wanted me to call her and congratulate her because for some reason me having gone to Uni for 7 years makes me the Uni specialist in the family. She was very upset with me, when I refused and was gobsmacked when I categorized my reasons (which you've touched on).
I'm pretty sure she did not believe me, no university in the US in 2009 could possibly teach such bizarre things. - perrym, on 05/23/2009, -8/+53............................................________

- Shadoblak, on 05/23/2009, -2/+47So, I'm a Democrat...And I like that Jesus dude....Am I like, gonna cause the implosion of the known universe?
- XtheXlanternX, on 05/23/2009, -2/+47So prohibiting a group from meeting is equal in your mind to calling someone a name? Interesting set of logic you have there.
- avshanbh, on 05/23/2009, -5/+48I hope the "University" gets its tax-exempt status revoked.
- AgeofMastery, on 05/23/2009, -5/+44It's outrageous that they take federal money and use it to practice discrimination.
- XtheXlanternX, on 05/23/2009, -4/+42They are within their rights to restrict free speech? I guess the laws of god are indeed higher than the laws of man.
- marmotjmarmot, on 05/23/2009, -4/+42Zing!
- scottk59, on 05/23/2009, -2/+39***** Win.
ridusoftyranny's mom is a whore. - kublerross, on 05/23/2009, -3/+37Now that is truly scary!
- tinycorkscrew, on 05/23/2009, -0/+34Liberty reported government grants on two of their last three 990s.
- Pigeon, on 05/23/2009, -1/+34Nope.
I just want to destroy those who are actually stupid on either side.
Like you.
"One could argue that the Democrats have abandoned Jesus." - Who the ***** cares if they believe in God? How does that change a politician? I would rather have one that looks at evidence and facts instead of fake tales.
"After all it is the current Democrat president who has stated that we are not a Christian nation. " - It's not. Retard. - MWeather, on 05/23/2009, -5/+37That's like teaching holocaust denial along with the holocaust. Only one is the truth. Pick one and stick with it.
- inactive, on 05/22/2009, -10/+40 I bet religious "educational" facilities do.
- TheJeffer, on 05/23/2009, -3/+33The Republicans didn't hijack Jesus. The Christians hijacked the Republican party.
- xenuxenuts, on 05/23/2009, -4/+34and that would still be triple the iq of Bill O's audience.
- inactive, on 05/23/2009, -20/+50I can't wait for the conservative response. "Well, X Liberal Institution wouldn't allow the ***** Beating Club to convene on their grounds! DIMMOCRATS HATE FREEDOM ARRGH"
- EnviroChem, on 05/23/2009, -1/+30I have to go with Ymeg on this one. I don't think it is all conservatives, I think it is just that we see more than our fair share of wingnuts come and go on Digg, which might be coloring our perceptions of all conservatives. Even some of the conservatives here have rational discussions when individuals from both sides aren't trolling and posting ad hominem. The problem is too often reasoned discussions aren't given a chance to flourish because someone has to turn threads nasty with personal attacks.
- fuzzybeard, on 05/23/2009, -2/+30Rush Limbaugh would be all over them in a heartbeat banging his war drum.
- futimazar, on 05/23/2009, -9/+36Taliban-gelicals strike again. Fight religious fundamentalism at home! Forget the middle east, its these fruit cake fundamentalists that seek to destroy this country not some goat herder in a -stan country most Americans can't even spell. This sick perverted cult who call themselves Christian will rot this country to the core with the disease of ignorance.
- Vaiper, on 05/23/2009, -3/+30To me, this has nothing to do with whether they are tax exempt or not. Or the fact that they are private and can do whatever they want. This is just a prime example of religious institutions not practicing what they preach. I mean, c'mon, they teach people to love thy neighbor and treat others how you would want to be treated and then they do ***** like this. I can't stand that kind of *****. Lead by example you ***** *****.
- novenator, on 05/23/2009, -2/+28http://digg.com/political_opinion/Christ_quits_Chr ...
- ophello, on 05/23/2009, -0/+25...and for good reason.
- Ymeg, on 05/23/2009, -3/+28All conservatives or just these wackos?
- Takfam, on 05/23/2009, -4/+29It's a bit of both, kind of like one had syphilis and one had gonhorrea and they *****. Who infected who?
- HurricaneDC, on 05/23/2009, -1/+25Never heard of the place...
- tidu, on 05/23/2009, -1/+25We're not a christian nation, you idiot.
- Takfam, on 05/23/2009, -2/+26The conservatives you know that are upset won't be Republicans much longer. They'll be labelled RINOs by illustrious leader Limbaugh and shunned out of the party.
- AgeofMastery, on 05/23/2009, -0/+23They participate in federal student aid programs including federal work study for starters
