- lgfaphile, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5The Democrats have a deeply held belief that high oil prices will spur alternative energy development. True enough. Unfortunately, they have been part of the dithering that has prevented any real development of alternative AND traditional sources of energy for the last 25 years. People like Al Gore tell us these prices are necessary, while he flies around in his Gulfstream jet. We have to break the elitist's grip on our political process.
- DFENS, on 07/18/2008, -2/+1When I was 15 and working at mickey d's as my first job, I was on break when I saw a gentleman digging through the ashtray outside. Obviously poor and needing his fix, he was cobbling together a full cig from the butts he was finding. He enjoyed the smoke, that's for sure, but immediately went right back to digging through the ashtray.
I don't know how this story relates, but it's the first image that pops into my head everytime someone brings up searching for more oil in alaska or off the coast.- Zacktopia, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Interesting analogy. To make it closer to reality, imagine if that fellow had a sizable but rapidly shrinking bank account, and that he had at his disposal a large security force with the most advanced weaponry on the planet. His money is running out so fast that in the very near future he will not be able to afford his security force and their advanced weapons.
What to do, what to do. Decisions, decisions.
