- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18they wouldn't have to pay anything if the wife would stop working and GET BACK IN THE KITCHEN.
- DigiDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13To me the form of this investigation is more interesting than the actual subject matter. What other areas could benefit from a mass of people deciding to do research together? This is actually part of a project I'm begining to work on.
- opencad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The huge issues is citizens deciding to uncover facts and publish information without the benefit of a "journalism" degree. If that kind of thing were undertaken about why we went to Iraq, no secret would remain hidden, no tale untold.
- JamesK, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12$45k or $15k, it is a waste of our money and should be made illegal.
- TrikkyMakk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It was also shown on C-Span last night!
- LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5While it may not be strictly illegal, I would hope that they are actually EARNING that pay! THAT is where the true story should be investigated. Some of those wives are lawyers and whatnot, so they may have a legitimate reason to work on the campaign trail. The thing that sticks in people's craw is that it's nepotism to put your own wife on the payroll.
So, while the amateur journalists are digging up these out of context payments, we need to really ask, "Did these spoused EARN that money?" - whoZatGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@nreynolds
Except for the 84 members of Congress who are female themselves. Then the husbands better ... what is it husbands do? - TruthElixirX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5So where did you copy and paste this from?
- phlux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I didnt "copy" it from another source - I wrote all this through digging in the family trees of bush. You can see the original post from several years ago here: http://forum.noblerealms.org/viewtopic.php?id=4
I became interested in this after I had read a few things that mentioned the US presidents all stemming from two family trees traceable back to two royal bloodlines from Europe. It was basically mentioned in passing, and I didnt think too much of it.
Then in January of 2004 I was travelling in the philippines and went to this church on the tiny island of bohol. I was there with my wife (filipina) and we needed to talk to the priest at this church. He wasnt there yet so we sat at a table outside the church where this old man had fallen asleep.
After a while the man awoke and was talking to us - he asked where we were from and we told him the US. And he said "I am here at this church because I am studying my family history - there are some records in the church I need to get. You from america - did you know that all your american presidents are related to eachother?"
To hear this in such a far off place I thought I would look into it more. I found several family trees of the Bush family and went through them. What I havent dont is cross reference the trees of al lthe current members of congress and the administration...
But as I get better at Python - its on my agenda... - LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Is this like the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon? :P
- megaloid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4As usual, some quality conspiratorial muckraking gets straw-man and ad-hominem rebuttals.
- megaloid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4How much does anybody care to bet that the historical decline of American journalism is directly proportionate to the amount of college graduates with journalism degrees? If you could graph it, the trend lines would probably run parallel.
- DigiDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is there a link to see it?
- monkeysteps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As said before....not government waste or "our tax dollars" campaign funds aren't government funds.....these positions are being paid from campaign donations. It'd be nice if people had a clue about these things before making staements.
- noreturn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like how the site links to the actual information and doesn't force you to rely solely on their word and a little check mark that tells you the figure is verified.
- ichbinladen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Something useful you say? Something like, government waste?
- phlux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3While not directly related to the subject of this story - I think that if we spent some serious effort we would see the real issues here.
I am not trying to polish my tin foil hat - this is all documented in several books - google "presidential cousins" and "presidential bloodlines"
There is a lot more to this that has *long* been hidden from the public eye. I have been writing for several years about the familial ties in the government. This list below is what I pulled from some official Bush family trees that had been posted online.

GEORGE WALKER BUSH (b. 1946), US President - badken, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3It is not our tax dollars that are paying these spouses. In most cases, the spouses are performing needed fund-raising activities for candidates. If it wasn't them getting the money, it'd be a consultant or career politico.
Pick something useful to get upset about, people. There's plenty of things to go after without wasting your outrage on something like this. - madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@TruthElixirX
I guess from

;) - Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I don't understand the huge "OMG" about this. If they're genuinely doing a job for their husbands/wives in Congress, why shouldn't they be paid for it? I don't think this proves 19 Congress members have done anything improper.
I think these people are going to be hired through nepotism whatever happens. If you're hiring someone to work on your campaign, they're always going to be someone you already know pretty well and trust closely. - elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4This is a big non-issue. Paying your spouse $15k to work on your campaign? That's a HUGE bargain.
