Condolezza Rice: ‘I Am Proud Of The Decision to Invade Iraq'

thinkprogress.org — In an interview with Bloomberg TV yesterday, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was unable to acknowledge the failure of Iraq. She said: "But I know that great historical events go through difficult phases and often emerge with the world left for the better. And I am proud of the decision of this administration to overthrow Saddam Hussein."

Terrorism never was a good justification for invading Iraq; the only justification, the justification nobody talks about, is the theft of Iraq's oil. "Operation Iraqi freedom" is a sham. It never was about bringing freedom to the Iraqis. It was first and foremost about securing oil for Bush's cronies in the petroleum industry.

    And as someone pointed out, such behavior and planning of conquest got some Germans hung at Nuremburg. Bush, Rice, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, and the rest of those who complicity went forward with this plan are war criminals. May they face justice. Shame on congress, for lacking even the good judgment to impeach.

    No Condi, you dont get to just slide past that one. "Whatever state they were in" was THE biggest selling point of your invasion. The state they were in was dismal to nothing.

Control of the oil wells and massive profits for the shrubs oil buddies. A great distraction while others in the administration attacked the Constitution and the environment at home. One dead Saddam Hussein. And an obedient main stream press which delivered and defended the propaganda necessary to ensure a confused and supportive citizenry.

    All this paid for by the US taxpayer.

Other important ones were "Participation in a common plan or conspiracy for the accomplishment of crime against peace" and "Planning, initiating and waging wars of aggression and other crimes against peace".

The EU specifically states that it is the DUTY of any member country to arrest anyone suspected of using or authorizing torture. This from an international expert in torture law.

And gas prices are high in part because of fears of war with Iran, regardless of whether there's more oil on the market now or not. The purpose of the invasion wasn't to lower your gas prices, the purpose of the invasion was to help the oil companies make money, and they're certainly doing that.

    Certainly the idea to invade Iraq for its oil is a flawed idea, but if you mean my assertion that the Bush administration invaded for oil is a flawed idea, you are mistaken; this is not some idea of mine to explain what is going on, this is a statement of fact exposed by Paul O'Neil, who attended National Security Council meetings where the war planning took place long before 9/11.
