If you walk into a store and want expensive jewellery the shop assistant will show you expensive jewellery. The sale is generated because the shop assistant sells the customer what she wants.
There is an old Italian millionaire in my city who has the habit of scruffy dressing, no shaving and driving an old pick-up when he is conducting a major purchase. The reason is that he gets a better deal. If he dresses as a businessman he is always gets quoted top prices. As a scruff the salesman are more willing to negotiate a price. A lot of salesmen have been caught and lost a sale because he picks the most expensive item in the store. The salesman usually try cheaper goods. The guy usually walks out and try's another store. The salesman who are successful with the guy show him the goods and gives him the price. The salesman makes the sale on the spot and the guy pays in cash. Then the guy then tells them his background.

I made about $8 an hour, going up to $10 an hour after two years in the job. Not bad for high school work, and certainly better than minimum wage.
