Hitler said invading the U.S. was a bad idea because the "civillian population was too heavily armed". If private citizens in France, the Netherlands and other European countries been armed, perhaps Hitler would not have been so successful. Perhaps Anne Frank would have survived long enough to pursue her dreams.
- ChazzD, on 11/20/2008, -0/+20The guns should only be taken away from from the criminals. Not law abiding citizens. Not a hard concept to understand in my opinion. People have the right to defend themselves last I checked, and a sheriff that wants to take that right away should not be sheriff.
- lccat, on 11/20/2008, -0/+19Sound logic for the United States but the Europeans were and still may be for appeasement and unwilling to fight until they found out what they had lost. During the last election this could have been United States Citizens.

The government should fear honest citizens, not vice-versa. It makes them much more careful about pushing people around.
Just this week I was glad I was armed. I went to a grocery store at 3 am to get some painkillers for a sprained ankle. When I came out, there was a guy loitering near my car who just radiated menace. He took one look at the pistol on my hip and quickly strolled off. There's no doubt I prevented a crime -- against me -- that night. - Oracle95, on 11/20/2008, -0/+14Right after Hurricane Katrina, the sheriff rounded up all the registered guns in New Orleans ... and we all know how well that worked out.
- wilgeno, on 11/22/2008, -0/+8What so many people fail to understand is that this is all it takes to defend yourself in most cases. Once the criminals see your armed they look for someone else. Here in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN were the police despise legal gun owners and truly hate those with carry permits, we have a criminals that know they will not be challenged by the majority of the general public (only about 10,000 carry permits have been issued in the state). And in many cases they know the police won't mess with them either since Minneapolis is a "Sanctuary City".
Last week in downtown Mpls we had a case like yours but the victim was not armed. A guy came out to his car and a thug was hanging out near by and jumped the guy held him at gun point and made the guy turn over his wallet then the thug assaulted the guy. The police have no clue who did this and most likely never will know.
One main reason why having guns for self defense is so important is that when your life is in danger and seconds count the cops are only (many) minutes away. Provided your still alive to dial 911.
I'm glad your situation turned out much differently that the guy that was robbed and assaulted at gun point here in Mpls last Friday. - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4Vote her out.
