- chuckdubdubdub, on 08/19/2008, -23/+316Freakin' common sense. On other words, "can we please have a president who has above average intelligence?" Seems logical, but "average voters" want to vote for "the average person,".... or less.
- nick1971, on 08/19/2008, -24/+299I want the old US back.
I want the country back which was a moral leader.
I want the country back where what the president said did not make me vomit.
I want a president who leads and make sense.
I want a US back that is respected partner in the international arena.
I want a president who realizes how much of the history of Germany has been repeated by the US and takes a step back from the brink aware that pebbles don't get to vote when the avalanche starts
Sadly I live in Germany so I don't get to vote. - Ralphdraw3, on 08/19/2008, -15/+178John McCain is doing everything possible to look a lot like George Bush
and nobody seems to be bothered about it - despite the fact that Bush's approval rating is way down at around 25%.. - neognostic, on 08/19/2008, -24/+169Good for you Jack! Please keep reporting the truth, and I will try to have some faith in the MSM again.
- xilduq, on 08/19/2008, -10/+115JACK CAFFERTY: "If any Republican can overcome the wretched stain of eight years of George Bush and win the White House, we deserve whatever bad things will happen to us."
- TNmary, on 08/19/2008, -15/+105Cafferty, a TRUE patriot of this country! Thanks Jack for voicing truth - it's so rare in the 24/7 'entertainment' media.
- jimbo92107, on 08/19/2008, -9/+73McCain is worse than Bush. He's smaller, older, angrier, and doesn't give a damn about other people. He's a male chauvinist (calls his wife a *****), physically attacked another senator, took bribes from a crooked banker, and he lets corporate henchmen run his political campaign. McCain's only redeeming quality is that he's a clumsy liar. Also like Bush.
- IphtashuFitz, on 08/19/2008, -2/+65This is one time I'm actually looking forward to the presidential debates.
- Colonial82, on 08/19/2008, -14/+72thank you yet again Jack for speaking the truth. Thank you for showing there are still some good in the media
- kenedamick, on 08/19/2008, -6/+61I'd really like to have a president in office that isn't an embarrassment to the rest of the world.
- greatgran1, on 08/19/2008, -12/+65I look forward to Jacks comments, keeping it real with some hope for a competent POTUS,this time around. After the last eight years the bar is so low for the office, any semblance of real intelligence appears "risky" and out of touch with the norm.
- DangerCollie, on 08/19/2008, -1/+50Best line: "He will leave office with the country $10 trillion in debt, fighting two wars, our international reputation in shambles, our government cloaked in secrecy and suspicion that his entire presidency has been a litany of broken laws and promises, our citizens' faith in our own country ripped to shreds. Yet Bush goes bumbling along, grinning and spewing moronic one-liners, as though nobody understands what a colossal failure he has been."
Suck on that, Bush supporters. - darladoon, on 08/19/2008, -8/+53there's only one thing worse than john mccain: the millions of americans who will actually vote for him come november.
just imagine the mind of someone who supports mccain. it truly baffles me.... - nmcvicke, on 08/19/2008, -5/+48Jack Cafferty is the last of his kind, honest journalism with facts. I wish more reporters like him existed.
- EatingPie, on 08/19/2008, -24/+67In the past four days, there hasn't been a single digg article about Obama -- or so few I've missed them completely -- but a flood of negative submissions, some justified, some unjustified, against McCain. With this in mind, I remember hearing the following words at the forum, and thought they were a lesson for us all.
"We need to learn to disagree without demonizing each other and we need to restore civility to our civil discourse."
This isn't just a statement to one side or the other, but to both.
-Pie - meishmeish, on 08/19/2008, -8/+50Why is this so hard for people in my country to grasp? This is exactly what Americans want: short, glib, quasi retarded answers to make them feel better. Since when does anyone want a leader whose an idiot? Well, since we started holding presidential forum in Evangelical churches. Good work Mr. Cafferty.
- oinyo, on 08/19/2008, -3/+44I want a president who realizes how much of the history of Germany has been repeated by the US *
I am glad to see I am not the only one thinking America is getting closer and closer to hitlers mindset. How many countries can we invade before the world turns on us like it did to Germany?
If change does not come we will be the axis that the rest of the world comes to " Liberate" - lolupissed, on 08/19/2008, -6/+47While I was watching the news with my mom last night they were talking about John McCain and Obama. My mom instantly said that she thinks McCain would be a better choice for president. All I could do was stick my face in my palm and wonder what the hell she is thinking. She wouldn't listen or agree with any of the points I made as to why McCain is a poor choice for president. Sadly this is how my family is and how I fear a lot of america is going to be coming voting time.
I don't think Obama is the perfect answer but anything different from GW at this time would be good. - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -4/+43Yeah, I want a pres who has intellectual curiosity. We need someone who is asking lots of questions. Lets not forget that a few years ago that Professor Obama as in a law classroom debating hard questions with his students. The Exams and syllabus were posted online, they show that he was not idealogical, but looked at both sides of the story.
Here are the links to his grading guides (at the bottom of the page.)

- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -10/+45Here's the takeaway. Share this with your Republican friends/family.
"John McCain graduated 894th in a class of 899 at the Naval Academy at Annapolis. His father and grandfather were four star admirals in the Navy. Some have suggested that might have played a role in McCain being admitted. His academic record was awful. And it shows over and over again whenever McCain is called upon to think on his feet." - cobophers, on 08/19/2008, -11/+46He wrote a nice article that highlighted the facts that McCain may be a good schmoozer but on his feet he isn't a good candidate. As this race is ongoing I can see why Republican leadership was very hesitant to place 100% behind him. Imagine him being in the same league as Thomas Jefferson. A prolific writer and thinker. I can't do it...."that's not change we can believe in".
- rjyanj, on 08/19/2008, -3/+36taxes = socialism? nice logic there.
the us has taxes.. most of the money goes to "defense" though.. which goes to corporations through government contracts.
stay in america and enjoy getting NO benefit from your tax dollars, while ceo's are getting pay raises and golden parachute, incentive bonuses and the like. - dcmjzero, on 08/19/2008, -0/+32OK, tell me how they differ... And explain why McCain voted with the president 95% of the time?
- 054k4, on 08/19/2008, -6/+38Agreed, if we get another president like Bush, I think a lot of people are going to become expats and move somewhere else.
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -2/+33If Spaz don't like him, he *must* be good. Just do everything the opposite of Spaz and you'll be on the right track.
- AndrewMoyer, on 08/19/2008, -0/+28I want a president that doesn't seem like I'm his employee and he's explaining to me why we need to have layoffs in order to keep the "shareholders" happy. I thought I was a shareholder in this corpor-nation.
- darladoon, on 08/19/2008, -1/+28in that mccain doesn't *have* a philosophy at all
- kable3, on 08/19/2008, -17/+43YES HE IS!!!!!!
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -2/+27I was gonna digg down eggsovereasyeggsovereasy above you. Then I got to your post and was forced to reconsider. You obviously have heard and read nothing about either candidate, and yet feel that you have every right to comment on them.
- StarlessKnight, on 08/19/2008, -1/+26Your argument might be better if you pointed out where they differ, and refute the close bond the two of them seem to share while they're a part of the same party (and if anyone can argue they're cohesive it's the Republicans who pretty much always vote as a bloc).
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -3/+27so true anytime I dummyspaza comment I know I am going to digg it down. the guy is a total fruit cake!
@jimmyspaza please go back to school and git some learn in yer head boy! you are dumb as a sack of bricks! (tried write in redneck speak so you can understand it) - TrueXtremeIcon, on 08/19/2008, -5/+29It says right there on the Op-Ed that the views expressed by Cafferty aren't those of CNN.
By your same logic, CNN is in the tank for McCain because Glenn Beck also gets to have his often-idiotic op-ed also featured on CNN.com - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -0/+24I have parents who think the same way.
they voted for the decider twice! I really dont understand how.
Then again just listen to jimmyspaza if you want to understand how they think... - UberNick, on 08/19/2008, -2/+26Why would he be kidding SpazaTroll?
- PhillyMJS, on 08/19/2008, -0/+23A good followup to this story would be to find the guys who ranked 895-899 and see how they've done for themselves.
- kstamour, on 08/19/2008, -2/+24Christopher Walken IN 2008....
It's time to get America back on track
http://www.walken2008.com/ - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -8/+30A real president won't come about until the 'values voters' get the ***** out of our system. Ron Paul, for example, was a pro-life Christian man... but no one gave a ***** because he wasn't running to promote that agenda. He was running to manage a government, not provide alternative therapy (religion) to those who are afraid of death.
- KnightWhoSaysNi, on 08/19/2008, -0/+22"i want a president with above average intelligent"
Sweet Irony. - BigDane, on 08/19/2008, -15/+36As family guy so eloquently points out..
Though clearly a better choice than her opponent, Lois' (Obama) campaign falters as Mayor West (McCain) proves more politically savvy than she is—while Lois (Obama) bores voters with detailed plans to improve the city (Country), Mayor West (McCain) uses glittering generalities and statements completely unrelated to his questions. - transitive, on 08/19/2008, -6/+27thank God for you Jack Cafferty.
- GreatToast, on 08/19/2008, -0/+21Not that Einstein's academic record would have anything to do with McCain, but it's false regardless:
http://www.abc.net.au/science/k2/moments/s1115185. ... - eggsovereasy, on 08/19/2008, -7/+27Maybe universal suffrage wasn't such a good idea....
- kenedamick, on 08/19/2008, -3/+23I'll take a presidential affair over 10 trillion dollar debt and a failed war any day.
- Nosferotu, on 08/19/2008, -0/+20Are you really comparing John McCain to Einstein? Seriously? How can you even hope to hold that argument up?
- nick1971, on 08/19/2008, -0/+20I did not. I've just worked there and have friends there and I want the old US back.
- shylove, on 08/19/2008, -4/+23Excuse me, Carter a Nobel Peace prize winner embarrasses you? Yes once in a while, but not all the time! Solar Panels on the White House, he was a visionary and if the country blamed the economic blowback of the Vietnam War on him, it was as a scapegoat!
Clinton, pretty embarassing but pretty human, and how boring, liked to use his vacation time with Hillary at brainstorming session about how to solve our countries problems. How does that compare with 1/3 of the time cutting brush is it or is that just the coverstory. Bush isn't the President, he is the figurehead and always has been. John Wayne Jr who never did anything but let Red Rover train him to swagger!
He does make a good cheerleader and was in his element at the Olympics.
McCain, however, is just too old and one event a day is it but if Reagan was your cup of tea, he fills in ok. But as a warmonger he is dangerous. Only a pilot could sing bomb bomb Iran. Pilots never see the civilians being napalmed! Morality, guess what I know of at least one pilot who refused to bomb civilians in Vietnam. Obviously he has no problem with wars for lies. Believing that wars solve problems should disqualify him to start with, wars are a last resort and then they only replace short-term problems with long term ones.
And don't forget the slip of the tongue 100 yrs in Iraq which most likely is still the plan, Treaties with loopholes keep those bases in Korea and Japan he likes so much even when the Japanese and Koreans don't. In Iraq, however, there will be guerilla war at the very least. If you don't meet the 5 million dollar threshold you probably don't know him but shallow does fit and a nice guy too but it's what is behind him you should be worrying about.. - BlacklabelSAR, on 08/19/2008, -1/+20geekee, Both of your statements make it clear that you don't understand that the Fire Dept.,Post Office, and mass transit are examples of socialism.
These things benefit a *s o c i e t y* which we all live in.
Also you would probably be suprised at what the average person (most of us are average per the definition of the word) pays in taxes in the U.S. Most people are actually in debt, which shows that we have less than nothing after taxes.
So what do we get for our taxes compared to nations that don't support an empire? The main point of the United States was *the persuit of happiness*. Meanwhile anti-depressants are the most prescribed drug and energy drinks are everywhere because people are over-worked. -
