- alapoet, on 08/30/2008, -41/+357McCain made an idiotic, pandering, cynical choice for his running mate.
But then, he's an idiotic, pandering, cynical man. - DFutureIsNow, on 08/31/2008, -21/+159Come on she is trying to sell herself as a PRO-LIFE feminist, what an oxymoron. Feminists advocate equality for women, and advocate in general terms for women's rights and interests in the political and legislative arenas.
This Palin woman is OK with woman NOT HAVING A CHOICE when it comes to abortion, she has said that if one of her daughters was RAPED she would not have her get an abortion but she would HAVE TO KEEP THE BABY.
She is making a RIGHT women have had for decades a criminal offense, this would be a HUGE STEP BACK. Women all over America should tell Palin to go back to her igloo in Alaska. In America we think women are more than a trophy you can display in public. Sadly John McCain has that view of women, he has a TROPHY WIFE and a TROPHY VP. - HopeMonger, on 08/31/2008, -14/+109Strong on National defense??? She said she pays no attention to it. She has absolutely No diplomatic expierence. NONE. We are in 2 wars. MCCain team themselves even said that they DID NOT pick her for her foriegn policy exp. (despite the fact that she will preside over the senate and be one heartbeat away from te presidency - places where ummmmmmm foriegn policy issues might, just might come up!)
- Hangly, on 08/31/2008, -33/+105Woman offended. Film at 11.
- MizSwann, on 08/30/2008, -20/+89...and I feel you must be a female. McCain is counting on women voting based on 'feeling' rather than on 'critical thinking' - which a lot of women will, indeed, do.
Whether the lady is a great ROLE model for women is a moot point when it comes to running the country.
Having a child with DOWN'S Syndrome is not such a heroic thing, my dear - one is either pro-life or not, and she is. What's so miraculous about loving one's own child?
I think she's a neat lady, has accomplished a lot, but I also think poor old McSame is hoping we women will vote for his ticket simply because we admire Palin as a woman. As an intelligent professional, I find that attitude to be insulting and demeaning.
It has nothing to do with feeling, and everything to do with thought. - meirav, on 08/31/2008, -13/+73To me, it is more important that Joe Biden introduced the Violence Against Women Act than that Sarah Palin has the same parts as I do.
"It's the [issues,] stupid!" - inactive, on 08/31/2008, -3/+53I have a friend whose mother is voting for McCain based solely on the fact that he has a female running mate... and I have a feeling she's not the only one. So there's some truth behind the claim.
- madmanz123, on 08/31/2008, -5/+49She would take away another person's right to choose, that is what is wrong... (stfu moron) :D
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -30/+73Choosing Palin was not so much a sop to Hillary voters as much as it was a sop to the "social conservatives", IMHO. Check the creds. She won't appeal to Hillary voters, but may bring in some votes from the far right.
That said, the Republican-Democrat Party is seriously broken, it's time to elect the third party of your choice. I'm for Ralph Nader and I like Cynthia McKinney, but also prefer Barr and Paul over either corporate whore Democrat-Republican candidates. - Ace75, on 08/31/2008, -13/+50What really concerns me about this VP pick is that Palin was not vetted by McCain. This shortsightedness of judgment is a clear indication that McCain will continue the 'go with your gut, no plan' governing style of the republicans as of late (Iraq war anyone?).
This instant gratification (regardless of the long term consequences) mentality must end. It is present in all of McCain's decisions, the stop gap of drilling more, gas tax holiday, surge, etc. How long can we just keep delaying the consequences of today's choices to future generations?
Thankfully, we have Obama who seems to be more diligent and thoughtful with his decision making. A VP vetting committee working for several months, assembling groups of experts together in common purpose (and LISTENING to them!), international trips to get the real word on the ground, outlining exactly what policies we can expect to see with him as president, etc. This is the kind of deliberate judgment we need going forward. - 17999, on 08/31/2008, -13/+52yes,
It would be much better if Palin rose up the ranks the old fashioned way... by being married to a president. - SeaMowse, on 08/31/2008, -14/+47I'm a female and don't feel McCain made a wise choice. Her decision to keep her child is an admirable one and for that I applaud her. But if McCain were to keel over, would you want a former journalist/fisherwoman/outdoor sports vehicle retailer/mayor of a podunk town who is currently a governor of a tiny state - in the whitehouse, deciding on how we will be handling Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and probably... Russia? Oh, wait a minute - Alaska is close to Russia, so her foreign policy experience is golden and is a non-issue. *sarcasm*
This year, I'm voting for the VP. Biden has decades of experience and that includes foreign affairs/policy. God only knows what McCain was thinking. I'm willing to bet McCain had her picked out a while back, anticipating that Hillary would be Obama's VP pick. - inactive, on 08/31/2008, -1/+31But he is a POW!
- rahamm, on 08/31/2008, -9/+35Strong on National defence? Is that cause to quote her she doesn't know much about Iraq but heres about it sometimes on TV?
- 4321234, on 08/31/2008, -0/+23She's a former beauty pageant pro-life feminist who strongly believes that rather than choice, women in South Africa should have better maps such as.
- randyzaia, on 08/31/2008, -2/+25This woman apparently doesn't know very many women.
- Pake, on 08/31/2008, -1/+23"So, what exactly is wrong with being a woman, and supporting a woman to become President?"
Nothing is wrong with it assuming you're voting based on their political stances and not their gender. However, the moment you agree with Person A more than Person B, but vote for Person B because of either their gender or race, then there is something wrong with it. - TerraIncognito, on 08/31/2008, -3/+24As a woman I can say this, I don't care if McCain picked Hillary Clinton as his running mate, I still wouldn't vote for him.
- rentmitchum, on 08/31/2008, -5/+24Offensive.. but true.
- EuropaCar, on 08/31/2008, -4/+23Heard on the news that many women are claiming that the obama ppl have been sexist.. someone please fill me in on where that came from though
but with that in mind i think it's entirely conceivable that some women will vote for mccain just cause of palin's gender - else7en, on 08/31/2008, -1/+19everybody dies
even neocons - kenplaysviola, on 08/31/2008, -2/+19The writer has never seen the Hillary Clinton website forums. If Hillary Clinton's website forum is accurate, then unfortunately a large part of Hillary's supporters ARE going to vote for McCain/Palin just because Palin is a woman.
- dBass, on 08/31/2008, -5/+22Because it's such an abysmal choice and plainly shows once again McCain's poor judgment, the repug talking heads and their MSM lapdogs are saying: "This shows what a maverick McCain is".
Oh really? What's mavericky about copying the Dems by trying to pander to HRC's supporters with a repug female? It won't work of course because:
1. She's "probably the least qualified candidate in the modern era" - Presidential historians
2. The bulk of HRC's supporters are already supporting Obama following HRC's full throated call for them to support Sen. Obama.
3. This shameless pandering that would needlessly put America in jeopardy will lose McCain support of clear thinking Americans of all political stripes
4. As this writer states, it is very offensive to women (and men)
5. Palin's radical neo-con, flat-earth, creationists politics only appeals to a thin slice of America, that Pat Robertson, Limbaugh, Cheney wingnut caucus.
Besides, McCain's a dick. - Zap2, on 08/31/2008, -4/+21Spot on. Any Hilary support who votes for Palin isn't looking at the issues at all.
- wootup, on 08/31/2008, -13/+31offensive? If there is no truth to the matter then why did so many women supported Hillary Clinton? Was is her awesome social policies? I think not. Clearly she won support from many (not all) women based on the fact that she is a woman. I don't know how anyone can deny that.
- rizenality, on 08/30/2008, -9/+25Well that is fine and dandy, but if you really put just a little brain power in to the situation you will see that it is nothing more than pandering and a TERRIBLE decision. McCain just gave up the election.
McCain is basically saying that he thinks the one person in the country who will make the best VP and Possibly President is a Governor from a state of less than a million population (almost 2 years) and who's other notable accomplishment is Being a mayor of a small town of 9,000.
He could have chosen Romney or even Rice. - hockeyplayer66, on 08/31/2008, -10/+25This is exactly the wrong way to 'shatter the glass ceiling'. Palin is handpicked and escalated past all of the more qualified women to hold this same position.
What the good old boys don't understand is the glass ceiling isn't a headcount of females in top positions. It needs to be broken by women who have been given the opportunity to work their way through the system and are rewarded in an equal way as their peers, not removed from the race and put at the top. - Stwo, on 08/31/2008, -3/+19Don't comments like this belong on Myspace?
- Cattywampus, on 08/31/2008, -0/+15I don't care for Nader, but I'd like to see a credible third (or fourth) party in the U.S.
- inactive, on 08/31/2008, -6/+20That right there sums up the Republican commitment to women's issues.
- Culyt, on 08/31/2008, -3/+17@ajames01:
When was the last time you heard sarcasm? - manova, on 08/31/2008, -0/+14My mother-in-law was so gleeful that picked a woman, she is going to try to volunteer in some way. My mother called me that morning to see if I had heard the news. She is also very excited. There are people in America that this appeals to.
- pumacub, on 08/31/2008, -1/+14It may be offensive, but all you need to do is look at the hillaryclinton.com forums to know for some people it's very true.
- AndrewDB, on 08/31/2008, -2/+14So, doesn't the old saying takes one to know one remain true with you?
- cadmiumpaint, on 08/31/2008, -2/+13Biden has experience in Washington with national and international issues. Don't pretend that huge factor isn't there.
- dn11, on 08/31/2008, -1/+12they're members of the new and upcoming Vagina Party. Issues are of no concern. Only lady parts in the white house - even if they are only being used as a political gimmick and tool
- ZenMojo, on 08/31/2008, -0/+1054% of women voted against Geraldine Ferraro, and most women in this country are Democrats. They can smell tokenism a mile away.
- Lynx55, on 08/31/2008, -24/+34"Collins: Idea that women will vote for any woman "offensive"

Palin is NO Hillary! - tulizx, on 08/31/2008, -3/+13"He was looking for someone who was well prepared to fight against international Islamic extremism"

Christian right throws Palin under the church bus
http://www.lefthudson.com/2008/08/christian-right- ... - PecanHead, on 08/31/2008, -2/+12Guess what - anybody who was supporting Hillary over Obama already gave up on the issues a long time ago.
- Ryan121, on 08/31/2008, -9/+18The sad thing is many woman are actually voting for McCain simply because there is now a woman on the ticket.
- AdInventive, on 08/31/2008, -0/+9It was never about experience. It was always about judgment, or the lack there of.
- MrWally, on 08/31/2008, -3/+11No, he knows she's a woman because he looked at her profile.
"A grrrl from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (US) who joined Digg on June 3rd, 2008."
Oh, sorry, she's not a woman. She's a grrrl. - nonsequitor, on 08/31/2008, -2/+11Thank you for posting about Biden. I want to know more about him than Palin.
- Mejari, on 08/31/2008, -4/+13If Hillary Clinton's website forums are accurate then Obama is a gay coke-sniffer who eats babies and ***** communism.
- beth1970, on 08/31/2008, -25/+33BS. You "know" when JFK ran many Catholics voted for him because he was Catholic. You KNOW people are voting for Obama because he is black and plenty of women were supporting Hillary because she is a woman. Please get off your high horse. Do I expect many liberal women to vote for McCain/Palin just because she is a women? No. But I as a woman and a mother am very excited about her being on the ticket. As a Catholic, I am very excited to see a pro-life( a real one), pro second amendment mother out there! Go PALIN!
- imightbewrong, on 08/31/2008, -9/+17Just in case anyone on digg is wondering if McCain went with Romney or Pawlenty there would just as many stupid digg stories bashing them and talking about there lack of experience and how they're part of a neocon agenda.
can't you see the digg headlines???
"Romney wants to turn US into a Mormon Nation!!!"
"Pawlenty's lack of leadership caused bridge collapse" - akbob, on 08/31/2008, -11/+19Ask yourself this question: "If Palin were a man would she have been selected by McCain?" Abosolutely NOT. To pick a VP based on gender and or race is an insult to EVERY American.
http://allalaskans.com/emperor/2008/08/29/sarah-pa ... - deadlyrice, on 08/31/2008, -1/+8I think the real issue here is that all the ENTIRE republican attack on Obama for the last several months has been that he isn't ready to lead and is inexperienced. Now that McCain has chosen a VP is even less qualified than Obama is, he has completely negated every single line of attack that has been used on Obama.
So I will ask all of the McCain supporters...Is Obama ready to lead? Maybe, maybe not, but is someone who has only been governor of Alaska for 3 years (as long as Obama has been in the UNITED STATES Senate) qualified to be 1 step away from the presidency?? -
