- davids1243, on 05/24/2009, -9/+139Rush, Dick, Karl and Newt vs Colin. Who would you want covering your back if you had a choice? Which one(s) better represent the USA? Colin suited up and put his life on the line for us, the others ran and hid. The answer is obvious.
- Maddoktor2, on 05/24/2009, -14/+131Dear GOP,
Please stop embarrassing us.
Love,
America - portnoy, on 05/25/2009, -5/+43I think what Cheney means is that if you are not blindly loyal to the republican party no matter what the party does and fully supportive of everything they do then you are not a true republican.
- inactive, on 05/25/2009, -1/+38I miss the simple days of BJs & surpluses, Duke Nukem 3D and DOS.
- JoeMondo, on 05/24/2009, -9/+44Dick also let us get hit on 911, due to his inaction and the inaction of his puppet W.
- lostlyrics, on 05/24/2009, -8/+41that's what I like with Colin, (but what - might - disqualify
him in a strictly uhm repooplican view) instead of calling
that Dick a fat, lazy & thievish liar, he says, 'misinformed',
or "tending to maintenance of defensive illusions" etc. 0:) - Laughto, on 05/25/2009, -7/+40I love that this guy always manages to somehow escape the vicious cycle of petty insults that make up the circus that is american politics/political news. You hear him speak and think that maybe there's some brains in the republican party. That's a powerful symbol the republicans could use. But of course, they want him out.
- JoeMondo, on 05/25/2009, -10/+42Cheney lied about WMDs. Why would he hesitate too lie about anything else?
- Echota, on 05/24/2009, -8/+39FTA:
"I have always felt that the Republican party should be more inclusive than it generally has been over the years. "
Now there's an understatement. - inactive, on 05/25/2009, -7/+38The GOP is destroying itself. That's awesome.
- JasonCox, on 05/25/2009, -4/+29Colin Powell is one of the few Republicans who I still respect.
- Ajajadude, on 05/25/2009, -5/+28Sadly, there are far too many people in this country who seem to think that the likes of Cheney, Rush, etc. are what true Americans should be.
- LanternRogue, on 05/25/2009, -2/+23Actually they tested a nuke under W's watch, just saying.
- shylove, on 05/24/2009, -10/+30We know where Cheney's loyalty is, to lies and disinformation and unfortunately even Colin got bit badly. We know they have WMD's Cheney is stuck on thinking inside the box but unfortunatley the box is no longer the Cold War, outside of the box is the 21st Century of global consciousness, not nationalism and dominance, submission, or torture chambers!!!
- SystemicThought, on 05/25/2009, -9/+27Screw it. Ventura/Powell for the Independent ticket in '12. Anyone game?
- bepeace, on 05/25/2009, -2/+19About 21%. Too many but not enough... if the media wasn't so caught up in the cage fight it would dwindle further. It's kind of amusing to watch Dick & Karl in their CYA scramble but they are given way too much coverage, too much weight. It's a chimera, that's all it ever has been, the Republican ideal for the US.
- Meowbiusfox, on 05/25/2009, -9/+26Cheney must be tried for war crimes NOW.
If he walks, then why bother with this thing called Democracy? We could just as easily be Nazis or Communists to turn a blind eye. This one man has hurt this country in ways that won't be understood for the next 20 years.Mark my words. - tzvika613, on 05/24/2009, -3/+19ranknfile - would you please be kind enough to explain what you point is ? What ' Jewish "democratic" values ' do you have in mind ? Thanks
- thenimf, on 05/25/2009, -4/+19You guys should probably work on getting yourselves out of third world status before you go around trying to police the world again...
- An Australian - thefirelane, on 05/25/2009, -4/+18could it be you are a massive racist, and that Powell endorsed Obama when he was already the Democratic candidate? (therefore Clinton was out) Oh yeah, I'm right.
You might as well ask why Cheney didn't endorse Clinton for the same reason... after all, wouldn't he naturally like her more than Obama?
Turns out, a lot of people stayed out of the endorsement game until the parties had chosen their candidates, then they chose amongst the people they could vote for. Just like Powell did.
Idiot. - demonicume, on 05/25/2009, -7/+21the republicans missed a huge chance with Colin Powell. There are so many moderates who respect this man. I'd love to have this man in Obama's administration. This is a huge chance for bipartisan rule - and you're blowing it. history has already judge you for it.
- MrBogard, on 05/25/2009, -5/+19It's "Colin," *****.
- thenimf, on 05/25/2009, -0/+13There's a lot of scary parallels between the neocons and Nazi/Franco regimes.
Just putting that out there. - rynsa, on 05/25/2009, -2/+15@macdady843
Library cards are also free. I recommend you go use yours. - Maddoktor2, on 05/25/2009, -4/+15"Jewish "democratic" values"
Very telling phrase, no?
Don't waste your time with this one, folks - he's obviously just another ignorant antisemite troll whose attacks are not worthy of response - only burying and reporting works with this type of animal. - MrBogard, on 05/25/2009, -5/+16So did Colin Powell. Oh wait, I'm sorry--he was just "misinformed."
- Ralphdraw3, on 05/24/2009, -6/+16here is the complete video of the interview:
http://digg.com/politics/Video_Colin_Powell_On_Che ... - beautifulady, on 05/25/2009, -3/+13He doesn't know. He only knows the words "Joe Lieberman." (BTW, that is the proper spelling of his name.)
- geodebug, on 05/25/2009, -0/+10How dare you, on Memorial Day, post something so revisionist.
Even with full 20/20 hindsight on how corrupt the decision to invade Iraq was and how obvious it is now that it was a war of choice.
The absolute best light that could possibly be put on the Bush administration is widespread incompetence and I'm not willing to give them that much absolution. They did not do everything they could, they did the opposite.
Powell lied to the UN about being certain Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Maybe we need to repeat that to ourselves every time his face appears on television? He lied so the Iraq war could take place. His word means nothing. Him saying he and Bush did everything they could? That means nothing. - Regoolian, on 05/25/2009, -2/+12North Korean's 1st nuke test = 2006. Really scared that little axis of evil didn't ya republihoars.
- bsmang, on 05/25/2009, -1/+10Yes, that's what he means. Unfortunately, being so loyal to any party is a sure sign of a strong mental deficiency.
- beautifulady, on 05/25/2009, -2/+11Spoken like a gentleman. You must admit, Powell's got much more class than either Limbaugh or the Dick.
- dlan4327, on 05/25/2009, -6/+14Oh I see what happened. Powell got the words 'misinformed' & 'evil' mixed up.
- DPDish12, on 05/25/2009, -0/+8Troll. You anti-Obama people on here must all be trolls.
You can't ALL be as stupid as your posts make you sound. That's almost statistically impossible. - apollomurga, on 05/25/2009, -0/+8it's fun to make quick conclusions after reading someone's comment. how do you know he didn't already respect him? don't assume he only respects him after watching the video...
- humptyz, on 05/25/2009, -4/+12I'm waiting for a right-winger to come in here saying it was actually Clinton's fault Bush let us get attacked.
- JanTik, on 05/25/2009, -6/+13In the land of the blind cyclops was once considered king, but what has happened to the GOP seems infinitely worse. I swear they have been overtaken by the Morlocks and they are eating their own.
- inactive, on 05/25/2009, -3/+10Considering they did nothing when a simple memo got sent to the President about bin Laden and a plot about airplanes, what makes us think he would have done anything with more information?
The debate is whether we stay in reality or talk in hypotheticals. The reality is that information obtained from torture is mostly unreliable. Torture brings us down to a level of barbaric proportions, so where do we stand as a people? We can't claim that our enemies are lowlife, despicable, unconscionable scum who care little for American life, then perform similar acts against them.
If the enemy was to take our soldiers and performed torture no doubt you'd be just as outraged and call for more violence. Where does it end?
The hypothetical is that maybe something will be told to interrogators. - KazamaSmokers, on 05/25/2009, -5/+12The answer is that they are ALL *****. Powell may be the most honorable of that nasty bunch, but don't forget that he is a General who sent his troops into war on information HE KNEW AT THE TIME WAS FALSE. Remember how he threw the report across the room and screamed "This is *****!" and yet still went in front of the UN Security Council and lied his head off.
- inactive, on 05/25/2009, -0/+7Isn't it ironic that all these America is #1, love it or leave it, flag-waving patriots suddenly throw hate on one of the highest ranking military officers. A former Secretary of State in the Bush administration, once the leader of the armed forces, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under the right-wing messiah Ronald Reagan, a man who served his country for 50 years, is now suddenly Colon-the-***** because he says something against Cheney and the Nazi-cons?
Amazing, the hypocrisy! - inactive, on 05/25/2009, -0/+7Boppity Boopy?
- alleged, on 05/25/2009, -0/+7Read carefully, you dumb *****: NK's *first* nuclear test was under GW Bush. Go back the the playground and let the adults talk.
- raleel, on 05/25/2009, -1/+8I would vote for that. Although I'd probably reverse the order, but still. That'd make me proud too.
- DPDish12, on 05/25/2009, -0/+7And grunge...don't forget grunge.
- m3arvk, on 05/25/2009, -0/+7The problem with your argument is that the Bush administration was full of stupid and/or misguided individuals; that they did everything they could does not in any way absolve them of the results of their actions. It's not that the left doesn't credit them with "trying" but that their actions/reasoning was almost always badly flawed. What the left is saying is that 9/11 was terrible but let's not throw away our basic freedoms and moral compasses because of it.
Let's be very clear: the war in Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 even if they thought it did. Waterboarding is torture and torture is illegal. Indefinite detention without a hearing is wrong even if they amend the laws to allow such a thing. Well intentioned stupidity is not a defense against illegality. - beautifulady, on 05/25/2009, -0/+7Beebop daboobop badoom bang boom?
I love how ranknfile makes personal comments to me that have nothing to do with the article. Makes me feel special.
How are we talking about Joe Lieberman when the article is about Cheney and Powell? - Ralphdraw3, on 05/24/2009, -4/+11here is the entire video
http://digg.com/politics/Video_Colin_Powell_On_Che ... - DPDish12, on 05/25/2009, -0/+7That's what makes him so great. Every time he's presented with a derogatory statement that was made about him, he just turns his cheek and says, "Well, I'm sorry to hear that." Rush and Dick want him to lash out at them as it just gives them more ammo. But he's the bigger man.
Seeing as I'm not as great a man as Gen. Powell is, I'll point out that there's no ***** way even half of Republican voters will understand what "tending to maintenance of defensive illusions" means. - emotecontrol, on 05/25/2009, -0/+7FTA: "On Face the Nation earlier this month, former Vice President Cheney said that Rush Limbaugh better represents the Republican party than Powell. Clearly, the former Bush Secretary of State has other ideas."
No, Powell is wrong. Limbaugh better represents the Republican party. Powell is a Republican of a different era, and his politics are completely distinct from what the party currently represents. Whatever Powell would like the party to be, it has become something else. It's the party of blowhards, of racists, of bullies, and of torturers. It's the party of war, the party of character assassination, and the party of petulant, child-like tantrums. It's the party of closeted gays, the party of drug addicts, and the party of bible-thumpers. It's a party for people who don't understand what the government is there in order to do, and who would dismantle it completely for a $50 tax rebate.
The Republican party is not a party for convervatives, but for radical regressives. It is not a party for those who are concerned with fiscal responsibility, but rather for those who believe that borrowed money is free money. It is a party of liars, cheats, and fools.
Colin Powell has no business calling himself a Republican. He's actually a good man who genuinely wants to help his country and is intelligent enough to perhaps accomplish that, if given a chance. - tofufever, on 05/25/2009, -0/+6Palin is no moderate..
