Well, maybe not - I guess the GOP forgot that the ballots in question were contested by the GOP for ridiculous non-issue, non-disqualifying technicalities in the first place, so they'll whine about it no matter what.
So, how's that voter suppression working out for you, GOP? Happy now?
Well, look at the bright side, guys - you now get to whine about the Dems stealing an election (after your attempts at stealing it in the first place failed). - novenator, on 01/03/2009, -0/+8The opening of ballots has finished. The official counting is under way!
- niradg, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6Franken's lead is at 223 now. It's over for Coleman, and John Cornyn looks like a damn fool.
- Anomaly100, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6Wow Novenator, you are really on top of this. I looked up your profile again to see if you were from Minnesota by any chance. You must have been riveted during the Bush/Gore craziness in FL!! This is an amazing process really. I'm wondering when the votes are counted, if Franken wins, will Coleman be satisfied? If you speak with a Repub about Obama's election, they'll swear he didn't win by much. 10 million is a lot of "much" to me and a hell of a lot of electoral votes.

"There are only unofficial, on-the-fly counts to go on, but it appears that Franken’s lead is now larger than the number of ballots left to be counted." - normlsparky, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5Franken up by 173 at present.
- normlsparky, on 01/04/2009, -0/+5It looks like Coleman is going to fight this until the very end. Still claiming that the Franken Campaign is withholding 600 votes, and that somehow most of those votes will go to him. Lawsuits are sure to follow the conclusion of this recount.

Haha... oh their bitter grapes. Well here's some ammunition for you the next time your Republican friends feed you the crap that Obama "didn't win by much".....
In 2004, Bush and his aides claimed he won a "mandate" from the people for his agenda when he narrowly won by 34 electoral votes, three million popular votes, and a 2.4% margin of victory. Incidentally, that percentage is the LOWEST WINNING MARGIN of any incumbent elected President in our nation's history--and he was an allegedly popular war-time commander-in-chief!
Obama, on the other hand, won by nearly 200 electoral votes, over 10 million popular votes, and a 7.3% popular-vote margin of victory--THREE TIMES the "mandate" won by Bush in '04.
Add to that the fact that this "relatively inexperienced" black man with a funny-sounding first and last name and whose middle name is "Hussein" flipped eight "red" states blue, including one (North Carolina) that hadn't voted for a Democrat in a generation and two (Virginia and Indiana) that hadn't gone Democratic in nearly half a century.
Um... yeah. He sure didn't "win by much..." Notwithstanding his other election-night statistics, his electoral college victory alone was a landslide.
:-) - allocate, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5They're now "looking for identifying marks," whatever that means.
- novenator, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4Accd to Minnesota state law, there can be no identifying marks on a ballot (such as signing your name).
- allocate, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4Oh, that makes sense. Thanks!
- novenator, on 01/04/2009, -0/+3They are just grasping at straws at this point

- BaldGuy, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1As much as Al Franken might be hated this is a vindication of Wexlers vision for that office.
- novenator, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1UPDATE - the counting is finished and press conferences seem to be done. This link is still active, but I'm not sure what topic its on. Thx for visiting everyone!
