- EnviroChem, on 05/22/2009, -1/+64FTA: "Clinton's supporters have every right to demonstrate on Saturday, of course. But their larger cause is neither democracy nor feminism; it's situational ethics. To insist otherwise is to degrade democracy and turn feminism into the last refuge of scoundrels."
Amen to that! - kdawg1012, on 05/28/2008, -3/+60Why didn't she bring this up when the rules were being discussed? She's a hypocrite.
- PHiZ187, on 05/29/2008, -1/+23Hillary complains that not counting FL and MI will disenfranchise the voters there. However, counting the states will disenfranchise the voters who stayed at home, knowing that their votes wouldn't be counted. In MI, where Obama wasn't even on the ballot, it disenfranchises voters who were not even given the opportunity to vote for anyone but Hillary.
- thirdcoastborn, on 05/28/2008, -1/+20desperation. No other candidate in this same position would be doing this. in fact, no other candidate in this same position would be allowed to go this far when the math just doesn't add up for them. It's pathetic
- adam07, on 05/29/2008, -0/+19"Situational ethics" - a perfect way to describe it, and something Hillary has been guilty of many times during this campaign. First, she's for the people deciding who the nominee will be (unless of course you're from a caucus state). Then after losing Super Tuesday and other states she's for the superdelegates because they're "experts" (and she had a lead in them). Later, after losing the superdelegate lead and Obama gaining a complete majority of pledged delegates, she is for the popular vote, which of course she is not even winning.
- chicoer2001, on 05/29/2008, -1/+17Florida voters should be pissed at their state politicians. They knew what would happen and called the DNC's bluff. It's like a kid who gets grounded for coming home late after their parents say "dont come home late." Then they bitch and moan how it's not fair.
- 0011002, on 05/29/2008, -0/+16Sounds like grade school thinking to me. Complain about the rules when they are no longer in you favor. If the tide was turned and she was ahead and another candidate (Obama or otherwise) was saying the same she'd blast them.
- gypsi, on 05/28/2008, -2/+18dugg for that precision summary
- dostephen, on 05/28/2008, -3/+18I grow weary of this theater of the absurd. I agree that it is a case of situational ethics which means essentially no ethics at all because her standards are a moving target, adjusted for her ends. Then again, that would be a reiteration of the same methods the Clinton's have used all along; whatever, however and forget any standards of reasonable behavior. It is very disappointing and is causing many democrats to become discouraged. Besides, their tactics are not going to work, unless you call ending Hill's career working. there is tough and there is ruthless. Hillary has always been tough but in this campaign she has become ruthless. That is not the change we all seek, it is the same poison we have been forced to drink for the past 7 years.
- aliengoods, on 05/28/2008, -1/+16It's good to see the national press is finally starting to grow a pair and call politicians on their *****.
- piznut, on 05/29/2008, -0/+12This has been going on for a while and is really making me dislike the Hillary camp.
When you agree to rules and then ask later to change them because it suits it, you become a grade 'a' *****.
When people say that Hillary is going to rip the Democratic party apart, this is the chief reason. Get over it, you lost...Move On! - mayan, on 05/28/2008, -1/+13Caps Lock doesn't make your opinion more important than everyone else's.
- greenroom628, on 05/28/2008, -1/+11"GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT - THE REPUBLICAN MAJORITY IN BOTH STATES PUSHED THE DATES UP...NOT THE DEMOCRATS....SO WHY THE F__K ARE THEY "PUNISHING" DEMOCRATIC VOTERS"
please state your source. why would the republicans have any right to move the democratic party's primary dates?
and i don't think the constitution mentions anything about counting the votes in a primary, since political parties are not included in the constitution.
now, the constitution on the planet hoth...now, there's a constitution. - cadmiumpaint, on 05/29/2008, -0/+10no time.
no money.
no valid reason. - grey580, on 05/29/2008, -2/+11I live in Florida. As far as I'm concerned the entire Democratic party can go piss off.
You wanna play hardball and then cry like a little bitch when ***** doesn't come out in your favor?
Well tough titties. You signed on to punish us then come running back to us when your losing your ass?
That's just too bad. Someone call for the Whaaaaaambulance.
Politicians need to learn that when you drop the soap sometimes you get screwed. - reuscel, on 05/28/2008, -3/+12Oh come on now. You can't expect her to follow the rules if it means she loses. After all, she's a Clinton and therefore entitled to the White House.
- inactive, on 05/28/2008, -3/+12I want her to jump off a bridge into giant river of gtfo.
- baronsmeg, on 05/29/2008, -0/+9Wow, you're an Idiot.
you know, no where in the constitution does it say that any political party is required to hold elections in order to determine its candidate.
Hell the Democratic party could have monkeys throwing darts at colored balloons to decide its nominee. - Asmodeus04, on 05/29/2008, -0/+8Lower case letter *****, learn to use them.
- dagamer34, on 05/29/2008, -0/+8Likely result?
1) Delegates are automatically halved. There's no way around them breaking the rules.
2) Michigan's votes will be 100% invalidated. Delegates are split 50/50. How this is unfair when other candidates names were pulled off the ballot and ONLY giving delegates to Clinton makes no sense.
3) Florida's votes, while also equally zany, will be a middle ground between a 50/50 split and what the delegate split would have been since the primary counted. Hillary can't argue that actually going to the state doesn't influence votes, so she'll loose on that argument.
I guess we'll see in 3 days. - alliekins619, on 05/29/2008, -0/+8English, *****, do you speak it?
- shanehonda, on 05/19/2009, -1/+7It's hard to win when you're not listed on the ballot...
- Deanblackoak, on 05/29/2008, -1/+7Gee... I just don't know what to say to your lack of knowledge.
- zoom1928, on 05/29/2008, -0/+6Token appears to be invalid
- Deanblackoak, on 05/29/2008, -0/+6Huh? Oh the silly mistake about getting the name wrong of which prison camp his great uncle helped free during WW II. That's the best ya got? Really?
- jaxs1984, on 05/29/2008, -0/+6In all honesty this is pretty funny , this is HISTORY in the making. When we become old farts in our rocking chairs we can tell our grandchildren what exactly we did in these trying times :) Everybody, should all lighten up and enjoy the show. Just think about it for a second and realize we are witnessing somebody fighting tooth and nail for a public servant job. And one last thing you are NOT "disenfranchise" if your vote does NOT count, etc. No where in the United States of America's Constitution does it say you have a right to vote in the "primaries" and be "counted" in the DNC.
- inactive, on 05/29/2008, -0/+5Being a "typical white person", I want every vote to be counted - once.
- 0011002, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4.... Just shut the hell up. I lost my home to Katrina. I lived in Biloxi Mississippi. Have you heard of it? The media completely missed the fact that hurricane hit Mississippi DIRECTLY not New Orleans. A 30ft ***** wave hit my home and all people where affected Blacks, whites, gays, straights, Christian, and Atheist families. Don't use a storm that killed people for a political agenda. Thank you.
/end pointless rant - danconia, on 05/29/2008, -1/+5Clap Clap! Point Point!
Edit: For those of you living in a cave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_WIqjj0WVA - Deanblackoak, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4Actually... that's not true. If he wins most of the west he doesn't need Florida. Or Ohio.
- KJGJ, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4Wait, you guys mean caps lock isn't cruise control for cool? Damn...
- Mejari, on 05/29/2008, -1/+5Ok, then you fund it, and you find a way to also fund a re-do of the Republican primary as well since there were probably lots of people that voted Republican when they otherwise would have voted Democrat, and also give them a few weeks to campaign and run ads, since that would be fair to the rest of the country that got subjected to them. Oh, and could you get that all done in the next 2 weeks? Thanks.
- Barackalypse, on 05/29/2008, -1/+5I'd say the last 75 years of American politics effectively make a mockery of both. We're left with the legacy of an every growing nanny-state and an ever smaller list of allowed behaviors.
- Deanblackoak, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4Just saying it doesn't make it so. I suspect you all know what's gonna happen. Do you think that the super delegates are completely stupid. See they gotta let her run till the last primary before they commit to Obama. If they commit to him before that she'll be able cry they didn't let her finish the race which will lead to a fight on the convention floor. And once they commit it's truly over. So let Michigan and Florida have their half delegates. Look for a big splash next Wed.
- dennisrhidalgo, on 05/28/2008, -2/+5Your sarcasm is completely appropriate here! It is actually the only way to explain a political behavior which otherwise would be impossible to explain.
- PopcornDave, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3Time to start a fund for a new keyboard for Demarcnt1. Any takers?
- SQLserver, on 05/29/2008, -1/+4At this point-
Who cares?
Obama-
Just take the delegates! His 33% win in Florida alone will almost finish the race for him, and by Puerto Rico in a few days: Bang! Primaries over! - Naieve, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3The problem is the Clinton campaign was talking about giving Obama NONE.
He wasn't on the ballot you see, he doesn't deserve any.
How that isn't disenfranchising the voters is beyond me. - kreneskyp, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3because back then she was busy preparing for her coronation. Too bad for her that Obama came along and proved that it wasn't a coronation and hardwork and good organization would bring her down.
- PopcornDave, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3Or January 20th, 2009.
- PopcornDave, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3Actually I think I've come up with the perfect solution to the whole mess. Just stick her in a VR unit where she *thinks* she's the president and then we all go on with our lives.
- kipmartin, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3That was an amazing display of ignorance! First of all, buy a copy of the Constitution. Then read the Bill of Rights. Finally, read up on contract law. Wikipedia has good entries discussing all of the above, in case whole books scare you.
Finally, is it fair for the millions who were told their votes were not going to be counted and stayed home that they remain uncounted? Sure, it sounds good to say we need to let the people speak, but only a percentage of the people ventured out. Had they known their votes would count, i believe the reults would have been much different.
You need to grow up and quite throwing your fuzzy thinking around in public. The use of all caps means you dont undestand online culture, your arguments prove you know little about the political and legal processes and principles at play here. You should move out of your mothers basement, stop breathing all that Radon, and maybe go get your GED. Think you could do that? Its a tough test for those of limited capacity. - detroitcity, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3As a Michigan resident I could not be more displeased by Clinton's tactics. She did not fairly win the state of Michigan. "Undecided" received more than 40% of the vote in this state's primary.
I did not vote with the understanding that my vote would not count if I did, many other that I know abstained for the same reasons.
Mrs. Clinton. Follow the rules. If Michigan delegates are seated on your behalf, I refuse to vote for you in ANY future election.
It is not an issue of sexism. I hate you for the damage that you are doing to the party. - Eagle193, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3A revote has already been brought up, I think, but Florida was unable to carry it out due to insufficient funds. Your idea has merit, but I'd much rather see the rules followed. If the committee decides to bend the rules now, it will set a dangerous precedent for every DNC decision afterwards.
- fireashes, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3I wanted to vote for Obama, but later found that there is no obama in the ticket. So I didnt vote. Well everybody was saying my vote wont count at that time so I didnt vote. If they want to count some illegal votes then I will oppose that.
I am from Detroit, MI - Mejari, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3Except that by counting Florida and/or Michigan, the total # of delegates increases, therefore so does the number needed to officially clinch the nomination. We all know Obama's going to win it, but the point is to still enact some sort of punishment so next election all the primaries aren't starting before Thanksgiving.
- ronaldst, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2I want her, McCain and Obama to all jump off a bridge into giant river of gtfo.
We need a president that will NOT extend the mess that is government. And one that will end up helping the poor and middle class by closing illegal bureauCRASScies like the IRS. - fireashes, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Shouting your word does not make a fake lie a fact.
