- dinot, on 04/24/2008, -0/+86And she only got 55% there, with no competition. It's like running the 100 meter dash with no other runners and coming in 2nd. Or getting hit by a parked car.
- kirkio, on 04/24/2008, -5/+76I'm sick and tired of the Clinton campaign acting like the Michigan vote actually says something about support for her. I live in Michigan and don't know ANYONE who supports Hillary.
Did Hillary win in Michigan's primary? Yes, but it's only because Edwards and Obama supporters either (1) didn't vote because they knew their vote didn't matter or (2) voted republican (eg. Ron Paul) on the "anyone but Hillary" mentality. - diggface5000, on 04/24/2008, -5/+59I'm glad the submitter chose to use the pronoun "its" to describe Clinton. I agree with the assessment.
- uselessexpert, on 04/24/2008, -2/+44I just don't understand what people see in her. She is a ***** liar, period! And a bad one at that....
Why anyone is still trying to support her, is beyond belief. - inactive, on 04/24/2008, -4/+45Is it me or is Clinton almost indistinguishable from Karl Rove?
- apec766, on 04/24/2008, -0/+36No kidding. Obama's name wasn't even ON the ballot - and yet she REALLY wants to contest that as a win for her?
- drmangrum, on 04/24/2008, -4/+33I'm sick of hearing about her. She lost. She's done. Let it die.
- snotrokit, on 04/24/2008, -2/+29Popular Vote Total Obama 14,417,619 49.2% Clinton 13,917,009 47.5% Obama +500,610 +1.7%
Seems pretty f*cking clear to me. - bcclist, on 06/11/2008, -2/+27My mom - a person that worries about absolutely everything - "braved" the conditions on primary night in Michigan to vote uncommitted because she hates Hillary. As I clearly recall, it was pretty brutal weather. She fills up her gas tank days in advance of snow storms just in case it's like a 40 year storm and they have to drive far, far away. Anyways, she still went out in the "scary darkness" of the night after work to vote. P.S. No, she's not every single voter in Michigan. But, she's a 55-60 year old, white, Catholic woman with plenty of anti-Hillary friends that fit the same demographic - I don't think Hillary should really be insisting that Michigan revotes.
- jayhawk, on 04/24/2008, -0/+23i live here as well. i knew Obama wasn't on the ballot so i chose not to vote that day. i know of many people who skipped and many who voted in the republican primary so they'd have a vote that counted.
- nojnathan, on 04/24/2008, -4/+25But she won't, and she can't. I hate liars.. Bush is a liar, Clinton is a liar. Obama is a breath of fresh air. I can hardly believe he's a politician
- inactive, on 04/24/2008, -6/+24Like it matters. (Pro tip: It doesn't)
- brianjlowry, on 04/24/2008, -0/+17Then they are thoughtless idiots who obviously have no concern for the issues facing our country or how it is run.
And to say that the Ron Paul spammed hurt him is ridiculous. The internet made him well known. - StarlessKnight, on 04/24/2008, -0/+15The Underdog is Obama. Who was the one initially championed? Who was the one with all the money and the "ready on day one" campaign? Who expected to have this "all wrapped up by Super Tuesday?" Clinton you say? Obama was the underdog and will remain the underdog until the end of this election cycle.
And pointing out a candidate/candidate campaign lied is spam? - br0ck, on 04/24/2008, -0/+14Read the ** on the bottom of that page and you'll see that even with FL and MI, Obama still leads by 115,300! Every candidate was on the ballot in Michigan except Obama, yet 40% of voters voted for uncommitted. Radio stations were all encouraging people to vote uncommitted as a vote for Obama. It is crystal clear that ALL of those 237,762 people in Michigan knew their votes wouldn't count yet made the effort to go to the polling station and vote uncommitted, so 237,762 must be added to Obama's total.
- bloodomen13, on 04/24/2008, -5/+18I'm gonna say it...
If Hillary manages to steal the nomination I'll vote for McCain. At least with McCain I know what I'm getting. Hillary is a liar and weak choice for President of the US.
1. I don't want a President who breaks down and cries. I'm sorry, that is a sign of weakness to other countries.
2. I don't want our President to "mis-speak" at 3 a.m. because she's tired.
3. Our most important international problems are in the Middle East. I'm not sexist, but women in the Middle East are generally looked upon as sub-human. A female President coupled with the fact that it's the US will be bad. Obama at least has some respect from the Middle East. The same can be said of the Muslim nations of Africa (many of which we also have issues with currently). This is not to say that I wouldn't love to see a female President... I would. Just that Hillary is not the right choice (she's a bull in a china shop) and the time is not right in the global community.
4. Her disapproval rating for being truthful
5. NAFTA - and her sudden denial of support of it.
6. I don't want the same two families to rule the United States for another four years (minimum). We need change and we NEED a fresh face. The old guard is what got us in our current mess. The Clintons believe themselves to be the new Kennedy's.
7. As much as she likes to think she's a chameleon, she isn't. She's constantly reinventing herself into something that she's not and anyone with the least bit of intelligence can see that. She is not a beer swilling, gun-toting girl from middle-class America. She is a spoiled, upper-class girl who had everything handed to her.
8. She's now fighting for the "rights" of FL and MI voters. Yet in states she lost previously she noted that those states didn't really matter (IL). She tries to change the rules of the game in any way she can to benefit her. You can't change the rules of the game internationally when you're President of the US.
9. Her refusal to speak with our enemies. How are we to ever set aside differences with other nations if we continue to ignore them? You have to speak with your enemies to understand them. Sun Tzu said "If you know both yourself and your enemy, you can come out of hundreds of battles without danger". Get to at least know your enemy. Our leaders seem to want to lead us back to isolationism.
Obama is a refreshing change for US politics. Many detractors like to say "he's a great speaker" but what has he done? Simply do some research. The man has been involved in the international and domestic scene for a long time. And a particular President that Republicans love to highlight for being so great, Reagan, was known as the "great orator". My opinion is that Obama is on par with Kennedy and Reagan for oration. We have yet to know how he would do as President, but that can be said of ANYONE who has not yet held the office (Hillary included). But my opinion is that he has surrounded himself with great people and he has a vision that I share.
Also, as much as people like to ignore it (Republicans especially), there IS a racial divide in the US. Obama can show the Black populace that they DO have a voice in the way their government is run. They DO have power and they CAN be anything they want. A Black man coming from a broken home, putting himself through school and becoming the President of the United States. - BryanG412, on 04/24/2008, -1/+14Why would ABC even put up the popular vote count containing the "Rogue" states, it doesn't make sense. ABC is creating the illusion that Hillary is in the lead for something, even if it is completely irrelevant and against the rules. She is NOT ahead in the popular vote and NOT ahead in delegates, end of story. I'm starting to suspect that ABC and the Clinton campaign have something going on we don't know about...
- snotrokit, on 04/24/2008, -1/+13Hillary only cares about FL and MI if she can win the votes WITHOUT a revote. If you think she gives 2 ***** about anything more than your vote, you are gravely mistaken
- gmarie808, on 04/24/2008, -11/+23The Clinton's had their chance and blew it, literally! Obama's the one that really cares about Americans. Can't wait. ;`}
- bloodomen13, on 04/24/2008, -0/+11Then why did he initially suggest that the FL and MI be able to seat half their delegates? Hillary demanded that ALL delegates be counted... without a revote.
She originally agreed to the DNC's rules and now wants to change the rules because it benefits her. She claims that she didn't receive the notice to pull herself off the ballot in MI. When asked about it just days before, she said that the votes don't matter anyways so why bother calling and having herself removed as her opponents had?
Now she's all about making sure everyone's vote counts but NOT wanting to see a revote.
Being the only choice on the ballot is the same as stuffing the box or being the only choice in a dictatorship. It's a FALSE symbol of election by the people. - inactive, on 04/24/2008, -2/+12hey *****, Clinton has run a campaign that was positive and supported progressive causes. Then when she began losing some big contest she turned negative and is now using Rovin tactics to say she is the only one that can beat the Repugs.
I.E. saying she leads the popular vote, by including two states that do not count.
I.E. by pushing the flag lapel pin and the Rev. wright story
I.E. by now saying the delegate count is not important when in fact it is how the system works
I.E. by saying yesterday that "If we ran things like the Republicans I would be the nominee already"
Do you want some more examples you prick?! - locri, on 04/24/2008, -0/+10Except, because of the rules of the Democratic election process Obama, Edwards, and even Hillary were told NOT to put their names on the ballot because of Michigan trying to avoid the rules.
- mikepictor, on 04/24/2008, -0/+9what kind of nonsense is that? Clinton broke the rules by even putting her name on the ballot. The lack of Obama's name speaks to his credibility.
- StarlessKnight, on 04/24/2008, -0/+8You are incorrect. You are counting the popular vote including the MI results.
Here are the Michigan results, tell me if you see anything that might skew the results in Clinton's favor: Michigan** 01/15 Obama: N/A, Clinton: 328,309 55.2% || Difference: Clinton +328,309 +55.2%
She's winning because she was the only one on the ballot, since Obama had his name removed. Is that really how you want to go around promoting Hillary's electability?
"Well, if you don't count an entire state for the other guy, she's kicking ass!"
"Wait, what if you don't count it for her?"
"She's... getting her ass kicked a little."
"And Florida? They're both on there, but it still doesn't count."
"She's... getting her ass kicked a little more." - apec766, on 04/24/2008, -1/+9If counting MI and Florida votes, Clinton is ahed in popular votes by ~100,000. However, considering that in BOTH of these states, during the voting, Obama withdrew his name from the ballot due to the Democratic party's decision that FL and MI primaries didnt matter (due to not corresponding to Democratic primary rules, by starting too early).
- democrats, on 04/24/2008, -1/+9I HOPE WE NEVER GO THROUGH THIS ***** AGAIN! I BLAME THE SUPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMN YOU ALL! Except the ones that have already decided.
- bcclist, on 06/11/2008, -0/+8Hillary wouldn't either if she didn't have to find some crazy math - that doesn't even add up - to lead the popular vote. I know you're an idiot. I know you've heard this before. But, both candidates agreed that these states wouldn't count. Why the sudden change of heart?
- CheeseburgerBro, on 04/24/2008, -0/+8Final Cylon.
- pixelate, on 04/24/2008, -0/+7How did they literally blow it?
- wphj, on 04/24/2008, -0/+7I, along with 40% of voters, chose Uncommitted. That sends a powerful message that so many people essentially came to vote against her.
- SketchaMPM, on 04/24/2008, -0/+7What does that have to do with ANYthing?
- bloodomen13, on 04/24/2008, -0/+7Clinton approved of the rules right up to the last minute. She approved of the votes not counting. Hell, MI and FL legislators agreed to the rules about holding primaries early and the repercussions... and they did it anyways! If MI and FL voters should be angry at anyone it's their own legislators, NOT the DNC. It certainly isn't fair to anyone, voters included to count the results without a revote.
- bicyclethief, on 04/24/2008, -0/+7Desperate times calls for desperate measures.
- StarlessKnight, on 04/24/2008, -0/+7Did you know we're not voting for President of the country? Did you know the DNC is a private organization with private rules that say "Do this in order to participate in nominating the party candidate?" Did you know if a state violates those rules there are repercussions? Did you know FL and MI will both be allowed to vote come November, during the national, Federal, no-exclusion election of President of the United States of America?
A note to FL and MI residents: Vote your politicians out that purposefully screwed you over. Obama is not responsible for what your representatives did. You, however, will be responsible if they do it in the future if you do not make sure it never happens again. - snotrokit, on 04/24/2008, -0/+7" a few pinheads in the DNC that neither the votes of MI or FL will count in the election. How is that fair?" It was not the DNC that broke the rules. FL, MI, and a HOST of other states went to the DNC and requested to move their primary. The DNC said no to any of them that wanted to move BEFORE super Tuesday (see CA). FL and MI decided to play chicken with the DNC and move them anyway. The DNC only followed through on what they told them. You absolutely can not blame the DNC, or anyone else for that matter for this. The ONLY people that are to blame are the elected officials in FL and MI that voted to move the primary knowing damn good and well what the consequences were.
- inactive, on 04/24/2008, -0/+6Excuse me. But why should FL votes count when their are thousands of Floridians who didn't vote because they were told their votes wouldn't count? How is that even fair or democratic? To me, that looks like Clinton doesn't want *her* voters disenfranchised, but she could give a rat's ass about those who didn't vote.
- mw113, on 04/24/2008, -0/+6You forgot how the Clinton's invited him for dinner after Billy's lil escapade. I guess Hillary needed revenge.
- Kazaki, on 04/24/2008, -0/+6All the DNC did was set the rules, it is Florida's and Michigan's fault for breaking them. So no, it's not the pinheads at the DNC who are at fault.
And by all means, Obama would take Michigan. If it counted, and his name was on the ballot, he would have won it. Hey, he probably could of left his name on the ballot just for the potential political help of winning even though it didn't count. But you know what? He followed the rules he agreed to.
It's kind of like making treaties with other countries. Is it a piece of paper you simply nodded to, or will it be followed?
And I am a Florida voter. And I was pissed about the entire Al Gore fiasco. Hell, part of me wants Florida's votes to count just to shut-up the whole thing. But I'm pissed at Clinton's handling of the situation because I don't feel she gives a crap. Where was she when Florida decided "Hey guys, ima hold my election early and SCREW ALL OF YOU, because we're too important too ignore! You'll count us anyways bitches!"
I want to move out of here just because of how self-important that move was. Nobody has modesty anymore. - NormanEinstein, on 04/24/2008, -0/+6Part of me now hopes that Hillary gets the Democratic nomination just so she can lose to John McCain.
- Acewrap, on 04/24/2008, -0/+6Just like a republican. Always trying to stick up for people who don't follow the rules.
- MisterChirish, on 04/24/2008, -1/+7At this point in the campaign Hillary has to switch her argumentative focus AGAIN in order to make some vague justification for her continued participation in the primaries.
The "I'm more electable" card only works if she can actually show that more people voted for her (even given the crazy idiosyncrasies of your electoral system [delegates, superdelegates, and the electoral colleges]), and it is pretty suspect given the MI and FL debacle.
3am phone call didn't work, Obama isn't a Muslim "so far as I know" didn't work, "Your pastor is a bigot" did little significant damage, and I think most people are indifferent to the "Pennsylvanians are bitter" banter.
Seriously, I think it's great that Obama doesn't wear a Flag lapel pin - what would she get to talk about if he did? - scottc, on 04/24/2008, -0/+6"ABC = Pro-Obama" You didn't watch the last debate? Hillary should still be thanking them for that, but instead her staff turns on them, lying about the ABC report today, and then lying again when confronted with their first lie. Unfortunately that seems to be her modus operandi.
- offspring06, on 04/24/2008, -2/+7How can she even include Michigan when Obama wasn't even on the ballot. What a ***** bitch.
- snotrokit, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5you are grossly misinformed. just to pick one, he was not a "civil rights" lawyer. Try constitutional law for a very prestigious Chicago law firm.
and EXACTLY what has HRC accomplished? Please, do tell...... - MortalynFlux, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5She's used every Republican tactic against him. The whole deal of attacking Obama's speeches, for example, is a Rovian tactic to attack the opponent's strengths by putting it in a different context. It's called framing. That's the real source and motivation for making that kind of argument and building a talking point out of it, saying Obama followers are drinking the Obama kool-aid. It's a tactic, not any kind of real debate, just like all the other attacks manufactured against Obama. If his strength was something else, they would go after that.
- BrendanSheehan, on 04/24/2008, -1/+6Are you saying you are indistinguishable from Karl Rove? ;)
- inactive, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5Between Obama and Hillary just Hillary can actually STEAL the nomination given the fact that she has the establishment support so the underdog is clearly Obama.
- bloodomen13, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5Posting the same thing multiple times doesn't make it mean more. Here... I'll do the same thing in response to this same post you made earlier:
Where is your proof to back up your claims? If he's done such horrible things then why hasn't Hillary capitalized on it in her negative ad campaigns? Afterall, she is running her campaign only as a nominee should against the other party.... NOT how you should against your own party members. I'm surprised she hasn't jumped at the opportunity to call out Barack as a "community organizing, reparations-loving baby killer". Why wait until he gets the nomination?
Let's not forget Hillary blocking unions while on the board of Walmart. There's your lover of the working man. Or the legislature she supported making bankruptcy laws tougher for struggling Americans. Or her support of the Iraq War.
The thing is, I DO "get it". - br0ck, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5""more people have cast ballots for Hillary than Obama
Like I said, 237,762 people in Michigan cast ballots for Obama, so 115k more people have cast ballots for Obama than Clinton. - inactive, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5But not everyone voted because they were told that FL votes wouldn't count. It is you that has no argument.
