- deadowl, on 10/11/2007, -5/+24This legislation doesn't nearly go far enough. I mean, Congress is the branch of government that has the power to declare and fund the war, and shouldn't be allowed to do so blindly.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Unlike most Americans, I was just as smart then as I am now, AND I KNEW THEY WERE FULL OF *****. You're just another one of those pathetic sheep that follows the majority.
- littlebylittle, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10How dare the elected Representatives of the people ask any questions?!
- siszam, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12Only six years too late. Clinton supported the war from the start and she has an equal share in all the deaths it has caused. She's just doing now because she wants votes. She turned her back and walked out when she was at a meeting of anti war activists and they started begging, literally begging, her to help stop the war. Bitch.
- Gir9000, on 10/11/2007, -6/+12A step forward in the right direction... here is hoping the Republicans don't use it to take two steps back.
- littlebylittle, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I don't know that I blame Clinton for supporting the War in the beginning. Most Americans did, including me. But then again, we were all being lied to. Like most Americans, I'm smarter now.
- pintomp3, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7funny, you took the talking point memo phrase "micromanage". if they are in charge of funding, shouldn't they at least be able to see what they are funding? do you just give the phone company whatever money they ask for or do they give you a itemized bill? the administration just wants a blank check.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Imagine what would happen if they spent 50% of the time fighting and fixing our broken education system as they do on the WAR? Wouldnt that be fracking amazing? Imagine what could be done!!!!
- bm8631, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Yeah, you ***** chickenhawk. Quit polishing your balls and pick up a gun and fight for what you say you believe in.
- LBTS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5You admit you were duped by Bush, yet you think someone who wasn't duped is the stupid one.
That's the kind of convoluted logic that got you and most of America duped by Bush in the first place. - rthakidn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Make no mistake about it, the only reason a two party system exist is because it's the only way to facilitate finger pointing. At the end of the day, they're all alike.
- rthakidn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5A lot of people assume the "Congressional Oversight" implies the congress can dictate the day to day operations of any department of government, including the presidency. Oversight is not specifically authorized in the constitution of the government's charter, rather those functions of the congress, to pass laws and to appropriate funds, are the hammer the drives home the nail of oversight to any agency of the government. Congress is not the commander in chief and therefor has no direct authority (other than the already mentioned roles of congress) over the military. The Congress has already shown its lack of will to "de-fund" the war and now they are attempting to pass legislation that would limit the military's power and give Congress more direct authority. It won't happen. Because THAT, is contrary to the constitution.
P.S. Kerry, you had your shot. Hillary, you'll need to wait a bit longer. - littlebylittle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Well Kerry and Bush are both Yale Bonesmen. I must say that raises a few questions for me. Makes me wonder if the 2-Party system has been corrupted and it's all a big act.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skull_and_Bones - Jamihabs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If you check the rolls of who voted for the authorization of war, you will see it had bipartisan support. You should also note that two of the most verbal supporters of this war were Sen. Kerry and Sen. Clinton.
- smacksaw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2We don't need this at all. Think about it - if Congress was in charge or war LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE, you don't need this.
These things remind me of hate crime or driving/cell phone legislation. We already have laws for these things without making new ones. We just need to enforce it.
We complicate our gov't and legal system with burdensome and repetitive laws so someone can get a little political recognition and that's wrong.
I'd rather see these people work to bring the power of war under the wing of Congress.
Problem solved. - mrrdlc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If we're in for the long haul, you'd better enlist soon.
- otheruser, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5It's pretty ridiculous that the legislative branch of our government, the branch that directly represents the public, has to push legislation to get answers from departments it funds.
Also, everyone knows we'll begin to withdraw by at least next year. The U.S. military simply cannot sustain another year without damaging their recruitment and deployment efforts. Recent reports from the military predict that Iraq will NOT fall into an apocalyptic state, will NOT become dominated by Al Qaeda, but it will be ugly*. Bush & the Republican Congress got us into this mess, and now, there's no easy way out.

Where do i sign? - Osjpr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"spewing vicious lies about our brave and heroic troops in Vietnam."

- elwood43, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wow. A DIGGER who has read and understands the Constitution.
- jmpeagle, on 10/11/2007, -6/+7congress gave up that power 5 years ago
- Jamihabs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I read it and I failed to find the part where congress has the power to tell the Secretary of Defense how to plan the war.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You're why I'm ashamed to be an American. My neighbor growing up, the guy who I was NAMED after, was killed in Iraq in 2004. I'm anti-war, but don't you EVER group together anti-war and anti-troop you pathetic excuse for a human being.
- rarson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Neither are people who make broad generalizations.
- izzie2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's called the left right paradigm and they have mastered the art.
- Osjpr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2The same Kerry who is braver than your fat ass and most other soldiers? Yes.
- FAT_PIGGY, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4oohh clinton trying to make a political point lol dumb bitch
- smacksaw, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Really? Perhaps you'd like to read the constitution:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_One_of_the_United_States_Constitution#Section_8:_Powers_of_Congress
So let me get this right. In your right-wing Utopia, Congress can do everything with waging war except having reports on how it's going?
Is it possible you could ever listen to truthful facts and form your opinions accordingly, or are you simply hopeless? - littlebylittle, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2People who talk like this, "You're just another one of those pathetic sheep," aren't all too bright.
- TubaTechno, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3i actually didn't get that memo. I refer to "micromanage" as in I'm "micromanaging" my marines in StarCraft. You're forgetting that not only are they in charge of funding this conflict, they're also in charge of picking people to run it for them and in turn get progress reports and then they can make decisions on who to fire and when not to fund anymore. I've probably miscommunicated somehow because you obviously misunderstood me. Congress ALREADY has oversight and reports on the conflict quarterly. I'm not disagreeing with this this, I think it would be monthly, but progress is hard and slow.
- Babykitkat, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4Hillary Clinton as his scapegoat what a laugh this all a dog and pony show to get us all to Vote for her what a Joke Why not talk about Hillary Must Testify Under Oath as a Material Witness in Clinton Fraud?
Watch "Indicting Hillary" The Documentary http://www.hillcap.org/default.php?page_id=2 Dont be fooled again people she has Voted for this War over and over again The Clinton's and the Bush's and the Kerry's are friends - rarson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I agree. I didn't think it required extraordinary intelligence to realize that it was a mistake right from the beginning, but apparently it does. There were just so many obvious reasons to be against the war right from the start.
People need to pull their heads out of their asses. "We were being lied to" is no excuse. - Jamihabs, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Would this be the same John Kerry who called our troops terrorists, and then called them lazy and stupid? The same John Kerry who sat on a foreign stage, next to the former president of Iran (a true international pariah) and called the United States an "international pariah"?
- Jamihabs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I’ve never claimed to be brave. I’ve also never shot myself and demanded a Purple Hart. I’ve never testified before congress, spewing vicious lies about our brave and heroic troops in Vietnam. I’ve never called our troops terrorist, lazy or stupid and I’ve never sat on a foreign stage and berated my country. I wish John Kerry could make these claims.
- rarson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1You are an idiot, and probably a byproduct of partisanship. No one with an IQ under 100 should be allowed to vote.
- Jasdar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Neither are people who can't use the reply button.
- Armylife, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Actually, the military can sustain it. There will be a redeployment of forces that are scheduled to rotate back.
Reports from the military saying Iraq will not fall into an apocalyptic state or not dominated by AQ? That is completely inaccurate. There are no intell reports that support that statement. Anyhow, it's a moot point. It woud take 2 years to conduct a hasty pull out and 4 years to bring out all of our equipment in an organized manner. That is just a logistical fact.
Hearing that someone wants to be briefed and publicize an exit strategy only encourages the enemy. But that's what the left wants. - jimbabb, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Why don't they just stop funding the war? They voluntarily delegated their constitutional war powers to the executive. Now they want to whine about a lack of control, while still obeying their military-petro-banking-israel industrial complex masters.
- rarson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1There was no reply button under littlebylittle's comment, and there still isn't.
- Jamihabs, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Senator Clinton wants to end the war with an American defeat, hand the terrorists a huge victory and allow them to sue you if you report any suspicious activity. http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2007/07/20/2007-07-20_disarmed_by_the_dems.html
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0If Billary and Lurch want to micro-manage the war, I was send them over there to the hot zone and let them do it. At least they will be doing something constructive and we won't have to listen to their ***** in the Senate and on the talking head show.
- Jamihabs, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Another example of congress trying to overstep its authority and liberals throwing accusations at Bush for resisting.
- cutesegirl, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid is a spineless pussy along with Nancy Pelosi who is a little more than a dumb *****.
Why doesn’t he and she move over and let someone with balls take the bull by the horns and stick it in the ass of the Bush Crime Cartel
Worthless Democrats in Washington DC (District of Criminals) - Jamihabs, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Imagine what would happen if we didn't spend 50% of our time fighting amongst ourselves and decided to win this war. The War would probably be over with by now, and we could spend most of our effort safely fighting over domestic issues.
- cutesegirl, on 10/11/2007, -8/+6Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid is a spineless pussy along with Nancy Pelosi who is a little more than a dumb *****.

Worthless Democrats in Washington DC (District of Criminals) - deckelgens, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Sorry, anti-war is the SAME as anti-troop.
- TubaTechno, on 10/11/2007, -8/+5You're right. Congress does have the power to declare war. However, they are wanting to increase their power to micromanage the war as well, instead of letting the commanders such as Patraeus (which they UNANIMOUSLY voted for) make battle plans for whats good for this conflict.
If congress wants to end this conflict, then let them pull funding or making a BINDING resolution to repeal the authority from Bush. But they SHOULDN'T act as military commanders because they are career politicians. - littlebylittle, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Funny. You sound kinda stupid to me.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2You Libs are like Pavlovs Dog. Ring the Bush, War or Terrosism Bell and you foam at the mouth spillling gallons of verbal waste defending the Looney Left. Wakeup Morons..we arent Gonna Leave Iraq.
