- CannedMango, on 10/10/2007, -0/+61"What - on earth - business does the Office of the Vice President have in the internal workings of the Department of Justice with respect to criminal investigations, civil investigations, and ongoing matters?" the Senator asked.
Gonzales was stumped, "As a general matter, I would say that's a good question."
Whitehouse then pointed out that in the same memo, the Chief of Staff and Counsel of the Vice President were also explicitly granted the same authority.
"On its face - I must say - sitting here, I'm troubled by this," Gonzales added.
HE'S troubled by this? He signed the f***ing thing! The only thing that troubles him is that he got caught. - Rsardinia, on 10/10/2007, -3/+43I swear, life is like a bad movie right now. When's the hero going to come in and save the day? Or when is the country going to wake up and nail these SOB's for all the illegal crap they do and are now granted power to deceive and cover up? ::sigh::
- Stonedonkey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30As far as I know, the vice president's only enumerated role in the Constitution is to vote in the Senate in the case of a tie. No other duties are specified, or implied.
- Gustav, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Like Gonzales, I'm stumped. Even if it turns out that Gonzales did nothing illegal, he knows virtually nothing about a lot of very important decisions he and his department have made. I would like to see him impeached for incompetency.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Why does Cheney's pacemaker/defibrillator hate America?
- casemon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13If you are American you shouldn't be waiting for someone to do something, YOU should be doing something.
- CannedMango, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10He should be fired if he's as incompetent as he lets on.
Of course NO one is actually that incompetent and it's all just a big game to them. - EarlOfLade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I suggest all the 2nd amendment lovers use this chance to show that they are not *****.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Oh Cheney! We need you to come in and help us! Congress is so ineffective and corrupt only you can ride in on your high horse and save the day! And take more of our civil liberties away while your at it, and wipe your ass with the constitution, terrorists could use it for another 9/11. Oh thank GOD! Stand up against fascism, inform yourself Infowars.com
- gthrank, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9How do Americans put up with the nonsense that has been going on in their own government? If this were anywhere else in the world, it would be either a scandal or a joke. In fact, you'd probably have invaded the country and toppled its dictator by now.
But somehow, when it concerns what goes on at home, Americans are prepared to be as passive as meek little lambs led to the slaughter. Perhaps it's your cultural isolation, or your pervasive religious ideology, or your TV content, but someone sure has figured out the formula to take advantage of you people. - Osjpr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8People are bred to be sheep in our society. Most of the people who have the right judgement and balls to do something will already be detained in a prison, for various trumped reasons ranging from minor criminal activity to being a political prisoner in a secret CIA prison. This is how the NWO will be built: Isolate those who don't conform and detrain them, so there is no one left to sway the fearful populace out of it's stupor.
- EarlOfLade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7When has this administration cared about the Constitution? Hmm?
- LordSlashstab, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5you'd think most elected officials would do something, but then again they're all paid for...
you ***** better realize the dollar is almost the same as the Canadian dollar. All that ***** money that our federal reserve is giving you to stfu, is diminishing in value.
And you have to ask yourselves is USDs worth the freedom of the people??? - sponeil, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Everyone on Digg should STFU about impeaching Bush and Cheney unless you have actually taken the time to write a letter (on paper) and send it to your state representatives. I'll bet most of you don't even know who they are, how to contact them, or whether or not you voted for/against them. I'm not even asking you to put your money where your mouth is, I'm just asking you to put a piece of paper (well, and a stamp and envelope) where your mouth is.
Whining about it on Digg won't build support to get them impeached. Emails also tend to get ignored because they're too easy to spam, fake, or send from another state/country. I sent my letters first when Bush started pushing for the Iraq war, and I have sent fresh copies a few more times again since then. Have you written/mailed yours? If not, STFU and go do something useful for a change.
Oh yeah, and if you do decide to write one, pretend you're an old geezer while writing it. Avoid using non-words like 'lol' and 'teh' and actual cuss words. They'll cause your letter to be filed in the little round basket (the one sitting on the floor under the desk).
If you don't know who your representatives are, how to contact them, or what exactly you should be complaining about, check out http://www.fcnl.org/ or http://capwiz.com/fconl/directory/congdir.tt. They make it really easy to send emails, which aren't as good as paper mail, but are better than nothing. - oriondarkwood, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I said this many times before
I am a non-conformist if I question my government
I am a rebel, if I want the truth
I am a non-sheep for refusing to quietly take the *****
I am a marked for digging for the truth
Guess what the government has labeled me and anyone that refuses to go quietly into the night - TERRORIST
Well guess what I am PROUD TO BE A AMERICAN TERRORIST, A HOUSE CLEANING, GOOD OLD FASHION ASS KICKING OF OUR CORRUPT GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO HAPPEN RIGHT NOW..
To mis-pharse Bush "You either with us or your are a AMEIRCAN IDIOT!!!!" - toddcat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Be the hero yourself, in whatever way you can. We can't rely on others. Just do the right thing. The idea spreads.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I thought Cheney wasn't in the Executive Branch. Geeze, I really must be stupid.
- TDR25, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4If this has never been asked before, I'm asking now. How the hell do these two idiots(Bush and Cheney) keep getting new executive powers?
- toddcat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Thanks 25%er. I hope you enjoy your prominent position in a police state, ya snitch.
- vancelethurin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2He must want to get one of his old friends out of jail.

http://www.triond.com/authors-Vance%20Lethurin.7366 - toddcat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Oh yeah, that's right, it's not that the government has been intentionally weakened by a corrupt government, it's that there's too much of it. Gotcha. No, we need competent, principled, capable government.
- shaolinpunks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2he also has the duty to shoot people in the face.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Like Hitler- they just give it to themselves. Get ready for the camps!
- fenixadler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2woooow
CHENEY is in full control of USA
and nobody do nothing - toddcat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2It's not just Congress........
- kageki, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Just another mark on the tab.. we'll let you know the tally when the administration is over.
- mabhatter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Bahh!
Look! we're going to Olga's Kitchen. Gyros are good. - bushesbitch, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2when will we wake up from this nightmare ,i can't believe our congress is this complacent
- toddcat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's exactly that poor definition of the Veep's office that allows an intelligent fascist like Cheney, who knows the workings of gub'mint v. well, to capitalize on its limited definition.
- McGrude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2This really just serves to prove that the executive branch is being run out of the vice president's office, not unlike the Reagan/Bush whitehouse. If George W. was really a strong leader does anyone really believe that he'd allow the vice president to encroach on his authority?
- HypoLuxa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1nail on the head! americans are just scared to look at what is in front of them. they need to wake up! WAKE THE HELL UP!!! who's country is this anyway?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nobody's obligated to do the same things proven not to work.
- 7goats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What does it take to move forward on IMPEACHMENT? Bush/Cheney have abused their power for absolutely no good -- unless you are a Govt contractor getting millions or an old buddy facing jail time. Maybe this is why he has been SO SECRETIVE. He really does have something to hide. They are all liars.
- Gustav, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I don't think that restricts him from having any appointed power in the Executive branch. AFAIK, he is obligated to server as a tiebreaker, but that doesn't mean he is obligated to not have any other powers granted by the President...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2No, there's too much of it. You think more and more power makes more and more good politicians. Wrong. Politicians are by definition possessed of a vision they are fit to rule you. You don't get LESS power MONGERING from MORE POWER.
numbnuts. - Fafnir43, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah. Sure. As a UK resident, I am certain that my state representative in Nowhere will be simply fascinated by my opinion.
- toddcat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1These powers have been here for 225 years. It's this administration that is the problem, not the concept of government in general. You need people who are responsible and the government works just fine. Less government will only open the citizenry to more abuse by power-hungry opportunists like Cheney and Bush. Really, and you use the word "logic" in your username?
- aslave2thegrind, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Steve "Douchey" Doocy (Fox News) would say..."This...is...HUUUUUUUGE."
- shamanlife, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Camps? If you missed they are ready now, they are just empty at the moment.
- UNCLERONNIE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0They all need to be taken out of office. The World is laughing at us..."IMPEACH THE BASTARDS"...
- mithrasinvictus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2and freedom is slavery? right?
- themordecai, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0freedom costs a buck-o-five.
- Lucavious, on 10/10/2007, -9/+2Isn't it a little late to be getting angry over a decision that was made over a year ago? Good job being on the ball guys.
- oilcan, on 10/10/2007, -15/+1my balls itch
