Cheney Offers False Excuse For His ‘So?’ Comment

thinkprogress.org — During his speech at the National Press Club today, the moderator gave Cheney a chance to apologize. “Do you wish that you had answered that question differently?” she asked. “Does it matter if the public disagrees sharply with the wisdom of the war?” Cheney instead made up an excuse about his initial comments.

I can understand him making a point about government being responsible for focusing on the doing the right thing and not necessarily the popular thing, but he didn't do that. He just indicated that he doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks and can't even be bothered to respond to questions at an interview he agreed to do. Just stay home next time.

The president was "hire", given a contract, by the American people. If they are displeased by the service they have received, vote him/them out of office. In business or government, only one person can make decisions, and yes sometimes they're screwed up decisions, not 535 of congress, not the public at large. All this talk of greed and traitors is fueled by hatred. YOU need to get over it. You guys are tiresome. Treason, who defines it? YOU! You ass hats praise people that would blow up Americans.

    And they are fluctuations, which is a good point..... the majority of the American people were in favor of the war and now want to abandon it. It says alot about fluctuating public opinion, which is not good for setting the course. But in this case I agree with the Iraq war’s not being worth fighting.... (never was) .... so I still dislike Cheney. In this case, he has a good point though.

    I own my own business. When i'm held accountable to something i can't tell those that rely on me "so". The government is for and by the people. If the people want something different then for ***** sake the government should do what the people want. However irrational that may be the will of the people is the reason the government is there. Our government is not supposed to have a will of its own.

    So what if we stayed under British rule until a later date? We'd still become independent eventually - look at all of the other colonized places - India, Palestine, Australia, South Africa.

    So what if the Russians had gotten their flag up to the moon and we didn't? We haven't been back since. The usefulness of it has been in the resulting advances, not in colonizing the moon. And technology progresses with or without trips to the moon.

    So now let's focus on your last statement. "Leaders are the ones who do the right thing...". What does this have to do with Cheney or the rest of the topic? Invading Iraq can be argued as the wrong thing as well, so it's not actually a universal "right thing".

    The alternative futures that you suggest would make no difference in the long run and Dick Cheney is not a leader. He's a warmonger.
