Dear Senator McCain;
You have finally lost me. I have written to you about six times in the last eight years. I have written about your change from maverick (that was after your loss for nomination), I have written you about education (I am a math and Physics teacher, plus an administrator), I have written to you about your conviction toward solar electricity in our solar state, and I have written other letters of lesser consequence. You never answered. Not one.
Hillary had me for a while, but I thought if she lost, you were my back up. I am an independent, I am bright, I have deep emotional ties to goodness, ecology, fairness, and honesty. We are upper income Arizonans’ and felt that it was our DUTY to put 8.4 kW of PV on our house….because we could, because it was the right thing to do.
Of course we worry about the economy and how it will affect our retirement. We recently retired with hopes of a nice life with a little left for our kids….like everyone. But we also know that we have grievously injured the earth. We need to pay for it. We need taxes to make it better. The taxes need to be for us as well as the middle and lower-middle classes. We need to pay more for energy so that the surplus can go into healthy energy. You can’t get something for nothing, John.
We have spent our overseas borrowed money on a war. We have neglected our infrastructure, our education, our overseas integrity, health care, immigration, the growing separation between the rich and the poor (our shrinking middle class), our air, our soil, our water…all for what. We are going to strap our children with a bill for something they didn’t ask for. I am ashamed.
Others have written your words (your books), others have taken over your ads…you know better.
I think the time for introspection is now. Many of us would be jumping on the roofs if you closed shop for a week and said to the press, “I need to think about what I am supporting, what I am saying, what I am doing…I need to measure that against what I believed to be good before I got the chance to be a presidential candidate.
You are not the same John that I used to know…and I can not support that.

It gives me hope that there are more Republicans who will have finally realized the truth behind the hype by the time election day rolls around. No sleep for me that night!
