- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26LOL did you just refer to the Chief of Central Command as a "typical liberal?"
- imthepresident, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24To me, drawing down the surge is a lot like a store that raises their prices by 50%, then, a week later, announces a huge sale with 50% off.
- nblsavage, on 10/10/2007, -11/+33yawn, you got a problem with the story? Post something that disputes it rather than complain about the source.
- Kmack928, on 10/10/2007, -5/+26Well duh.
Does Bush even KNOW anyone who isnt an ass-kissing little *****" - whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23http://www.ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=39235 direct link to the actual article.
- thcobbs, on 10/10/2007, -14/+34When the source of the report's credibility is in question, I think it apt to point it out.
How many times do Fox News stories get the "consider the source" style comments? Turnabout is fair play. - DreKor, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22The uniform isn't a shield, it's a standard that you're held to. If your conduct calls your character into question, then you deserve anything you get.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -9/+27And thinkprogress' biased agenda means what, exactly? That they are lying about the quote? That they faked the source article?
- SilkSteel, on 10/10/2007, -38/+54General Betray Us indeed.
- azprofessional, on 10/10/2007, -5/+20Typical conservative tactics, when you wont provide FACTS, assume partisan attack position
- DreKor, on 10/10/2007, -3/+18That loud whooshing sound was the article going way over your head.
- purpmint008, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Senator Warner: Are you able to say at this time if we continue what you have laid before the congress here, this strategy, do you feel that that is making America safer?
General Petraeus: Sir, I believe this is indeed the best course of action to achieve our objectives in Iraq.
Warner: Does that make America safer?
General Petraeus: Sir I don’t know actually. I have not sat down and sorted in my own mind what I have focused on and what I have been riveted on is how to accomplish the mission of the multinational force Iraq. - stupidclese, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15He made it seem that way , didn't he? But that pullout isn't happening for a year, and they will have been there wasting their time for 18 months when it is all said and doe. Under Patraeus, the number of troops in Iraq reached an all time high, and he is recommending it stay that way. He is quoted as saying the surge is working, it just needs more time. So what exactly are you talking about?
- matlock, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Petraeus just said "stay the course" of Bush's plan. The "pullout" just means bring troops back to a pre-surge count IN A YEAR. The reason the troops would be coming back is because they rotations are unsustanable anyway past next summer.
- Kmack928, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17That explains why we are doing so well against insurgencies.
- imthepresident, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14I guess that's why you're posting on digg....like the rest of us.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13I see you didn't bother to read the article, so let me summarize it for you: they took a single quote as an example of widespread dissent within the military over the US role in Iraq, and used this to support their argument that Petraeus' report is quote "one-sided." Their argument is about policy, not against anyones character. Your mindset is exactly the same as accusing anyone who is antiwar of hating America, it's a straw man all the way.
- thumperings, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14reality has a liberal bias.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -13/+24 People don't flame Fox News stories because they are "biased," they flame Fox News stories because Fox News has a documented history of inaccurate reporting.
- Authustian, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Hell, find me one truly unbiased person and I'll give you a dollar. :)
- Haohmaru, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15Ron Paul is not the savior you think he is.
- bdhughes, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12it's kinda like jon stewart's jag last night re: it has been a disaster going into iraq, it will be a disaster if we leave iraq. talk about a rock and a hard place. there is no easy answer here. obviously way too complex for a quick and simple solution where a quick and simple solution simply does not exist. for dems or reps or ron paul for that matter.
- ScornedPatriot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Watching Fox news I see. They said they would Call for 30,000 troop withdrawl, next summer. Key words being "Next" and "Summer". All he's doing exactly what he's accused of doing in the article.
- Sp4nk, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14Hah! If you can name one political blog that doesn't have a bias or an agenda, I'll eat the corn from your poop.
- SOS84, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13Now that this is out, what are the chances that Fallon has a job next week?
- DisposableRob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Apparently "typical liberals" include four star admirals with 35 years service on the Navy. No wonder tradtional conservatives like myself have abandoned the GOP.
- gernblansted, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Of course, someone with a user name like "therightside" must be completely unbiased.
- ncc74656m, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Umm, yeah, those are liberal tactics. Like when Rove did push polling in NC in the 2000 REPUBLICAN PRIMARY against John McCain? So what you're saying is now that Bush is liberal?
"How likely would you be to vote for John McCain if you knew he had an illegitimate black child?"
Yeah, sounds like a real liberal tactic to me. You stupid asshat! - TheHydrogens, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Oh holy ***** somebody finally said it! Yes, we very much appreciate people willing to fight and die for our great country. No, that does not exempt you from all scrutiny, nor does it make your character infallible.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Ok. ThinkProgress has employees posting on digg. Is that a crime? I notice you failed to address your claim that TP has a history of inaccuracy. Here's my cite:
http://mediamatters.org/issues_topics/search_results?qstring=fox+news
735 examples of distortions and falsehoods appearing on Fox News.
And yes they are biased, and they openly admit to it. But that does not make them wrong. - zengonzo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Only for as long as it takes to fire them?
- thcobbs, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12No, since it's a personal opinion based on what someone else said in a meeting. You can't exactly defeat a personal opinion and hearsay with logic.
- matlock, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8The General's message was discredited a week ago by the GAO.
- motbob, on 10/10/2007, -10/+16Look. It doesn't matter if Petraeus is an ass-kisser, or a *****, or what. He could have slept with President Bush to get the position for all I care. The fact is, Petraeus is the only man who understands what the real objective in this war is. He gets that we should place our relationship with the Iraqi people above even our troops' security. No more nighttime household raids that dishonor Iraqi men. No more overcrowding of prisons. And above all, heavy diplomacy with local Iraqi leaders. Pertaeus gets it. If he'd been top dog at the beginning of this war, we'd have won already.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11I said "documented history." If you can point to a specific instance of thinkprogress being inaccurate, feel free to do so. Otherwise you don't have a leg to stand on.
As far as "thinkprogress employees" I think you mean thinkprogress readers that click on the "digg this" button that hundreds of blogs use on their posts. - whiledo, on 03/25/2009, -1/+7Actually, in this case wouldn't the character BE a main part of the facts? One of the central questions around Petreaus's testimony is whether it was truly independent or guided by the administration. Regarding that question, wouldn't past history of "ass-kissing" be relevant?
- matlock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6His strategy is working gang busters too. I like they way we get peace in Al Anbar Province is to arm local militias and war lords. That's democracy in action!
- DreKor, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8It would have been nice if he would have enlightened the rest of us as to what the "real objective in this war is".
- MadKennyP, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Fox News purports to be "fair and balanced." ThinkProgress describes its mission as "to provide a forum that advances progressive ideas and policies."
See the difference, here? - Randinn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Sad thing is he probably doesn't, you might have to dummy it down for him....
- thcobbs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5He's biased to himself being president ;-0
- malkiholic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6This "pullout" is a classic Macy's sale, double the price then take 50% off. Adding 30,000 troops then removing those troops is NOT a withdrawal. Bush is going to keep as many troops as possible in Iraq for the remainder of his presidency. His "plan" is to punt to the next guy.
- Maarek, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6No I would say that half of us Liberals recognize where the real fight for our country is and are using the weapons needed for that fight.
Further more, your statement would imply that most if not all Conservatives are willing to pick up a rifle to fight for our country. Well here's your chance, we have a war and a troop shortage. Go Enlist!!!!
When you are over in Iraq, we "Liberals" (aka Moderates and further left) will continue our fight to bring you home before you end up dying for your country. - MadKennyP, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5From that comment, we can be assured doctorweird voted for John Kerry, who fought for his country, rather than George W. Bush, who did not.
- matlock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5If you are a lackey for Bush, history will judge you accordinly. Even if you are a respected military man. See General Powell.
- OrigamiRonin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I honestly couldn't care less if the ThinkProgress staff promote their own stories here. That has nothing at all to do with the validity (or lack thereof) of the story. Fox News (or somebody there) edits Wikipedia entries about their competitors, not themselves. That's a little more underhanded than just promoting your own story. Either way, what's the point? I'm not claiming that ThinkProgress or any other source isn't biased to some degree. The fact is, if you are just going to throw your hands up and say "well so-and-so said it so it cannot be true" then I have very little confidence in your ability to discern the truth anyway. Point in case, you have yet to refute the article itself, you only trash the source because it doesn't agree with your politics.
- Rounin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Any citation for Fallon's quote or what? Did he tell a reporter or did someone over hear it or what?
- brufleth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4This is an issue I never figured out. People were all up in arms about Kerry's medals and how he handled himself in a combat situation. Much of the press was negative. Now say he was a terrible soldier and didn't deserve all those medals. Didn't he still do infinitely more combat duty than Bush (at the time his political opponent)? It was like saying aqua isn't blue enough when the alternative is red. It was like everyone was taking crazy pills. Kerry DID see combat. He WAS actually shot at while Bush was too busy goofing off state side. Even if Kerry hadn't deserved his medals and honors (which I'm pretty sure he did) he was still a combat veteran which should have been a definite positive relative to Bush's complete lack of combat experience.
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4thcobbs: What do you EXPECT a summary or chosen example to be? LONGER than the source data? More numerous than the things it is an example of?
- chukd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6As someone that served in the military, I can say that the quote is probably made up. If an officer is going to address another high ranking officer like that, it is usually between the two officers. There would be no one else in the room.
