- Lspook63, on 09/02/2008, -11/+130I think what is clear and inescapable is that abstinence only programs don't work. I seriously doubt Bristol planned to get pregnant. A lot of teenagers either have no access to birth control or lack the education to use it correctly. "It won't happen to me" or "Just this once is okay" attitudes are everywhere. As a nation, we have to face the fact that just telling children and teenagers NOT to do something, doesn't make them not do it. Most often, they want to do it even more. We have to EDUCATE our children and give them as much knowledge as possible to make truly informed decisions.
If Bristol had the education and knowledge and access to birth control, she'd have an entirely different future than being a teenage mother married to a boy that probably isn't the love of her life (we rarely meet them in high school, though I know it does happen), and struggling to finish High School and attend college with a baby.
Do responsible parents just tell their kids not to smoke or do drugs? Or do we tell them why it's dangerous and exactly how it's addictive and damaging to our bodies?
McCain and Palin just don't understand that ignorance is never a solution to anything. - jjordan20, on 09/02/2008, -27/+108Hypocrisy thy name is American Republican!
- algaeturd, on 09/02/2008, -15/+71If an abstinence program is all you can offer, this will be the result almost every time. Republicans are NOTORIOUS for being hypocritical. Historically hypocritical. And it's sad because it's the same way with most Christians. They like to damn people to Hell and they do the same thing behind closed doors. So there are literally CENTURIES of hypocrisy associated with this group.
If Obama's daughter was 17 and preganant, YOU'D NEVER HEAR THE ***** END OF IT.
They can't even get their rumors right.
The funniest part of this whole thing is that I've been in the south quite a bit lately for work and I always hear about the 'damn (n-word) running for president.'
It HAS to hurt these people that Obama is like 20 times more intelligent than they are.
It HAS to burn a little. Because these people assume he can't be president based on the color of his skin, which they think makes him inferior. Meanwhile, their president of choice has slit the collective throat of this country time and time again.
Yep, ignorance has no racial barrier but from what I see, there is NO lack of stupid republicans.
Rove stepped across the line with his comments about Biden yesterday...speaking of fat, stupid white men. This administration has not been able to find its ass with a ***** 20 billion dollar GPS system. God knows they've tried. - TheThirdWheel, on 09/03/2008, -3/+53If Bristol Palin was black then Sarah's husband would be very upset that his wife cheated on him with the only black guy in Alaska.
- freedomjoe, on 09/02/2008, -13/+48Yes, well, Rove called Biden a few choice names yesterday -- they never stop stooping to the lowest of low. Isn't he supposed to be in jail, anyway? I'm proud of Obama and Biden for sticking with issues instead of low-level, immature, bullying tactics like the Republicans have been using on US and the WORLD for the past 8 years. And we see how effective it's been on our standing in the world. War with Russia, war with Iran and China getting the oil from Iraq that our troops are dying for. I am so sick of these hypocrites. Republicans are irrelevant, except when they are stealing, lying, bombing, spinning -- well, I guess that covers their existence. the only time they are relevant is when they lie themselves into the hearts of the American People. The people are waking up, though, and even the media is starting its slow dawning of the Age of Truth.
- highlymodified, on 09/03/2008, -3/+35"Which brings us back to Obama. Do you think the Republicans would lay off of Obama if his 17 year-old daughter had gotten pregnant out of wedlock? You know the answer to that question. Everyone does."
For all those who say this is totally irrelevant, you know this guy is pointing out a true double standard.
Also, I don't judge the kid for getting knocked up (although the pictures of alleged DRINKING while potentially pregnant are pretty irresponsible), but her situation highlights the failures of her mother's hardline policies in a way that discussion alone never could. - GardenRetreat, on 09/02/2008, -13/+40I agree with this article completely.
I also believe abstinence is the best answer, yet I am not naive enough to think it is for everyone.. I think it should be taught as the best alternative but with avenues for pursuing other methods
On another note in many ways i am an indpendent on issues. What makes me a democrat is that I feel that Republicans will attack at any costs to win. The Karl Rove approach to politics. I am not saying that Democrats don't attack but I do believe that it is not much of a tactic as it is for the republicans. So far me that makes a Democrat. I support obama mostly because I do hope he will change the way politics is done in this country - JAMMR, on 09/03/2008, -0/+27If Bristol Palin was black, Sarah Palin would have some explaining to do to her husband.
- geoffp, on 09/02/2008, -10/+36Bristol's pregnancy *should* be completely irrelevant in this campaign, but unfortunately, it seems to boldly and personally underscore the silliness of not telling teenagers (who are, of course, desperately horny in large numbers) about condoms.
The thought experiment of reversing parties here also hasn't escaped me. If she were the daughter of a Democrat, Republicans would be absolutely foaming at the mouth over this; I'd put money on it. - inactive, on 09/03/2008, -6/+32If this had been a Dems choice, Fox would be doing a three part series on how inept the democratic party is and would be using every outlet to destroy the choice of Palin as a Veep. The fact is that this woman has absolutely no credentials to be a part of the executive branch of this government.
This woman does not believe in evolution! She is a creationist. She wants it taught in schools that God created everything in 5 days.
She is an airheaded, po-dunk status seeking beauty queen from whothefvckcares, Alaska who married a drop-out snowmobile racer.
They have a pregnant teenage daughter...
And how are you even thinking about VP when have just had a baby 2 months ago especially a baby with down syndrome?
Yea, some "family values"
If you think this lady should hold one of the most important seats in our Gov't, you need to go read our nation's constitution. If you still don't get it, you need to go have your head examined.
You don't have to be a Democrat to see the risk of having a child so late in life, the irresponsibility of having a slut for a daughter, a snow-mobile racing husband that didn't go to college and sending your son to Iraq to get killed.
Listen Folks, these people have no understanding of real family values. They do not follow our constitution, they are Creationists, which is why they should never be allowed anywhere near the seat of our Gov't.
These psychopaths belong in the Looney bin! - Sfenton, on 09/02/2008, -12/+35What if Jesus Christ was black?

- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -21/+42What if Obama was Black?
- charm803, on 09/03/2008, -5/+26I'm sure if Michelle Obama's daughter got pregnant at 17 all hell would break lose.
If Michelle Obama had done what Cindy McCain had done (stole drugs, stole from her own charity) she would be all over the place, and stereotypes would never end.
Yet, they give these people a free pass. - lhbaker, on 09/03/2008, -2/+20What? Bristol's pregnancy is a conspiracy? You make it sound like a gang bang.
- ryan83189, on 09/03/2008, -11/+29What if Barack Obama said to stop this *****? What if he said families were off limits and encouraged you to take the high road? Oh wait, he did. If this is your idea of taking the high road I would have loved to have seen the low one.
- lhbaker, on 09/03/2008, -0/+17Shadows would be freaking awesome.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -1/+17Bristol was...
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -1/+16It is clear from the convention coverage tonight, that non-evangelicals are no longer welcome in the republican party.

- FlaG8r, on 09/03/2008, -1/+16It would get really friggin hot 4 times a year
- lhbaker, on 09/03/2008, -6/+21I am so sick and tired of the right telling the left to 'take the high road' when the low road is so much more fun and slippery and dripping with sweet, poetic irony.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -1/+15His name is Frank, incidentally. Nice guy. Soft hands.
- lhbaker, on 09/03/2008, -2/+15What? His father was black? Are you ***** serious?
- ejpusa, on 09/03/2008, -5/+18PEOPLE TAKE A DEEP BREATHE!
Do you seriously want Palin as vice-president (with a good chance being president) of the united states?
HAVE YOU COMPLETELY LOST YOUR MINDS? THINK! It's the united states, it's a world power of +300 million people, nuclear armed. COME BACK TO REALITY! THE REPUBLICAN PARTY (which i have voted for more then once) HAS COMPLETELY LOST IT'S MIND. - Karmavs, on 09/03/2008, -0/+13I wouldn’t rely on “gravity” to not get knocked up—I’ve never seen any proof of “gravity” anyway, aside from those “scientists” and their ”theories”. Who knows what kind of dangers they’re covering up? It probably causes autism!
- Zervas, on 09/03/2008, -10/+22"...but an average person. Now imagine she was black." So, we're basing this on the premise that a black person can't be average?
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -7/+19If I were a self-respecting republican I'd be hopping mad right now. Palin is a ***** hick with a ***** education and a whore daughter about to marry a ***** retard. I'd want her off my ***** presidential ballot NOW.
Show me some semblance of vision or intelligence from palin. By the time he ran in '76, reagan had written articles outlining a cognizable national conservative strategy. What THE ***** has palin done that is remotely similar?
I hear she makes a mean tuna noodle casserole though. - babar77, on 09/03/2008, -2/+14Black people can be average... this statement is meant to stir people into realizing their own deep racism.
If it didn't effect you, you don't have anything to worry about. - argaen21, on 09/03/2008, -2/+13"On the pinhead front, 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant. The sister of Britney says she is shocked. I bet. Now most teens are pinheads in some ways. But here the blame falls primarily on the parents of the girl, who obviously have little control over her or even over Britney Spears. Look at the way she behaves."
Hey if Bill O'reilly can trash Jamie Lynn Spears for getting pregnant, calling her a pinhead, well then the daughter of the future vice president is gonna get it too. Hypocrites, all of you republicans. - YancyFryJr, on 09/03/2008, -1/+12Girls can't get pregnant if they're on top, right?
- davidg11, on 09/03/2008, -5/+16As the snow flies
On a cold and gray Alaska mornin'
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries
'cause if there's one thing that she don't need
it's another hungry mouth to feed
In the ghetto............... - Carrot425, on 09/02/2008, -8/+19If Bristol Palin was black and Sara Palin was a Democrat I can guarantee the Republicans would accuse her of cheating on Todd Palin. That's just the kind of sick tactics they use.
- Snottlebocket, on 09/03/2008, -1/+12Abstinence goes against every single biological, natural and social impulse ingrained on human beings. Teens are sexually grown up, it's rediculous to think that the best solution for a problem is the one that goes directly against everything a healthy person is feeling.
- Darksider, on 09/03/2008, -2/+12Well ***** Said
- BXRWXR, on 09/02/2008, -4/+14Her pregnancy is irrelevant. The results of her mom's parenting capabilities in stark contrast to what her mom preaches are.
- jaxcs, on 09/03/2008, -1/+10You do know that the abstinence program teaches that condoms are ineffective right? So, teenagers who have sex are limited to the rhythm method.
Nice try with the love child thing and planned parenthood thing but that didn't even make sense. - Eugenitor, on 09/03/2008, -3/+11I only Digg this stuff just to watch Republicans freak out.
What if Obama was Japanese? - inactive, on 09/03/2008, -2/+10I take it you've never taken a logic course
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+8OMG JOE BIDEN IS RACIST QUICK SOMEONE TELL BARACK OBAMA!!!
- Eugenitor, on 09/03/2008, -2/+10Don't tell us Diggers to get off her. There's at least ten guys in front of us in line.
- f3d0r0v, on 09/03/2008, -4/+12And I think you should kill yourself, but you don't see me making a comment about it.
- hangingchad, on 09/03/2008, -0/+7Your sith lord, Karl Rove said this about Tim Kaine.
"With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he's been a governor for three years, he's been able but undistinguished," Rove said. "I don't think people could really name a big, important thing that he's done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America"
Here's a clue, Kaine has been governor longer then Palin and was the mayor of a bigger town then Palin. - richpav, on 09/03/2008, -3/+10McCain said he'd follow Bin Laden to the gates of hell. Does that statement exclude Pakistan? Perhaps there an asterisk followed by some really, really small print that I overlooked?
- f3d0r0v, on 09/03/2008, -2/+9Here comes the ignorant christian republican downvote brigade!
- nullcodes, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6Look at the insults hurled at jamie lynn spears (britney spears' sister) and her parents by all the "social conservatives" back when she announced she was pregnant. A few (minority) commended her for not aborting .. but they also said that her parents sucked etc. etc. go look it up. They actually blamed democrats for making it fashionable for teens becoming sluts and getting pregnant.
Do not take my word for it .. research it. - ImIce, on 09/03/2008, -1/+7Regardless of whether this is offensive, it is statistically invalid.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -1/+7She didn't necessarily get knocked up, republicans are capable of mitosis.
