- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Doesn't it seem like if something like this really happened, every year, when watching the news, it would always say, "99% of votes in. Still awaiting Vernon..."
- heavyPixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sure, it's a microcosm of corruption.
But it illustrates how vulnerable our modern congressional districts and (pre)election laws are. How can the safeguards to the pillar of our democracy fail like this?
Maybe it's just me, but I find that a little concerning. - stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I have been to Vernon many times on business, and observed this is true. If you play Half Life 2, think of City 17 and you will get the picture.
- thegsa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's So Obvious That There Is Corruption In Vernon. My Dad And i Were Driving Through Vernon To Get To Maywood And I Asked Him Why Weren't There Any Homes. He Said That There Were Only 28 Homes And The People Who Live in Those Homes Don't Really Live There, They Live In Upscale Homes In Beverly Hills. So They Just Use The City's Federal Allowance To Buy Real Estate in Other Areas, or Buy Whatever They Wish Because It's Free Money.
- b0nj0m0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5How desperate are you to move to a town like this? I would think you'd notice that the town is run like the Manson commune when you did a walk-through with the real estate agent. "And over here is the Scrotum Tree, where we keep momentos of everybody who tried to fight the town fathers..."
This will be a great legal battle to finally stop a few citizens in this small town from screwing the citizens illegally and start screwing them legally. Anybody think the reign will actually end? - groceryheist, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9this town is so ***** up...
- vajra918, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"the city's motto: "Exclusively Industrial.""
... Wow... That's really enticing to the tourists. - eecue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Vernon is great... I go there almost every weekend to take photos of industrial landscapes. There are no residences there apart from the condos for the "elected officials"
Take a look at some of the photos here:

I took a bunch more this weekend... will put them up soon. - StarSaber, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5"Bush won't be forgotten in 100 years. He's going to be remembered as the worst president of all time."
Well I probably would not go that far. He is a horrible President, but no worse then the 2 before him.
He along with this Congress has drastically increased spending on unconstitutional programs, and created new ones. - elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2From your comment to God's ears.
- DesolataX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Holy *****! I live in a town called Vernon, but not in California, in British Columbia, Canada. And we just had a Mayor who is being charged for stealing taxpayers money! But the new mayor sucks too..
- cheeseron, on 10/12/2007, -17/+17Bush won't be forgotten in 100 years. He's going to be remembered as the worst president of all time.
- right75, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@bacomage1:
And another thing: how can you give tax breaks to the poor?! They don't pay taxes! The bottom 50% of wage earners pay about 4% of the total tax burden!
And as for Clinton: that's all he did?! For EIGHT long years you can only tell me THREE things Clinton did?! (One of which I have already trashed). Bosnia was nothing more than a meals-on-wheels program, and NAFTA was merely an agreement, which made products cheaper, but in doing so, Clinton sold out the very labor unions that supported his election to office. And that's not the first time he sold out; the American people were sold out when Bill Clinton and Madeline Not-So-Bright gave nuclear technology to the North Koreans (who are now threatening us with it), and authorized satellite technology from Loral to be sold to the Chinese (who are also now threatening us with that too).
You were right, the guy was busy. Busy selling out America up the river. He was a pathetic, do-nothing President, his wife is a pathetic carpetbagger of a senator, and why these people are so popular I do not know. - bacomage1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4@right75
Perhaps you're forgetting:
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
Tax cuts for 15 million low bracket families and 90% of small businesses
$600 Billion reduction in the deficit (which has vanished under the Bush administration)
Intervention in Bosnia
He did more while "gettin' busy in the oval office" than you could ever hope to accomplish in your lifetime. - mattyj, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)

Are you out of your gourd? Even if any of this were true, history doesn't remember trade agreements or alleged tax cuts. They remember dead people. They remember corruption. They remember domestic spying.
Let me ask you this:
"Nixon!"
What comes to mind, Watergate for China?
I voted for the first bush but Bush 2 is an imbicile. - right75, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0@bacomage1:
How would you know? You have no clue who I am, what I do, or how much I make.
One thing is for certain: I am accomplishing less by taking the time to respond to the likes of yourself. - abhoody, on 10/12/2007, -12/+9Or he'll be remmembered as the best president of all time.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5I doubt we'll forget TR or Reagan, but 3rd place isn't bad, or 4th if someone like Rick Santorum becomes president.
- right75, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5@cheeseron:
You're full of it. President Bush will be remembered as a liberator and a leader who actually did something for the betterment of mankind. Unlike his predecessor, who was too busy gettin' busy in the Oval Office. - sbovisjb1, on 10/12/2007, -24/+2Who cares, is a no-***** hole in the ground that would be forgotten like George Dub-YA in 100 years.
