- DeskFlyer, on 05/13/2008, -4/+148Wait, people still pay for porn?
- krc1, on 05/13/2008, -45/+164Buried because nbc11.com employees are submitting every other story from their website. There are approximately 2000 TV stations in the US and approximately 35,000 world wide. What if they all had employees doing this?
BURY ALL NBC11.COM SUBMISSIONS

- sockpuppets, on 05/13/2008, -0/+85...if only I could download food and fuel for free.
- iceman0113, on 05/13/2008, -6/+68You know, if they made marijuana legal and taxed it, CA wouldn't have a financial problem. With 300+ dispensaries in CA, it really might as well be legal.
- DeskFlyer, on 05/13/2008, -5/+60Yes.
- DeskFlyer, on 05/13/2008, -8/+63I see nothing in Digg's ToS that prohibits this practice. Plus, like the above comment says, I'd rather see a ton of direct links to reputable websites instead of every other post from blogspot.com.
- onionbagel724, on 05/13/2008, -1/+55triple? I hope not, this its going to be a hard to swallow
- Conway, on 05/13/2008, -8/+43Damn. You are correct. I checked his profile and everything he submits goes to nbc11.com.
- massminority, on 05/13/2008, -3/+38Um I don't know about you guys but I have never paid for porn in my life.
- RainDodger, on 05/13/2008, -5/+44Food, Fuel or Porn---what do you need most?
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -4/+36Did the story fail to mention they also want to put a nearly 20-percent tax on iTunes downloads?
California is a huge goddamned rip-off. Almost 10 percent state income tax, a ***** of other taxes, and everything is farmed out to private contractors that the citizens pay extra for. Examples: You have to pay a private garage to get your car emissions tested. Vehicle registration fees are hundreds of dollars. You pay extra in court for driver's school, but then find you have to pay a private driver's school AGAIN. WTF are we paying for to begin with?
Not to mention numerous large cities contributing to the tax base. Talk about mismanagement on a grand scale. - proliance, on 05/13/2008, -10/+37Stop spending money you don't have and you won't have to raise taxes. Or take Economics 101 at the Community College.
Damn. - inactive, on 05/13/2008, -1/+26This is Digg, we digg what we want. Shut up.
- bajesus, on 05/13/2008, -3/+24gas, grass, or ass nobody lives in California for free?
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -2/+23If you are being taxed, those services are not free.
- MrTito, on 05/13/2008, -0/+25Yet the consumers are the ones taking it up the ass.
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -0/+21I think people in the industry would be bending over backwards to stay competative.
- CTK14A, on 05/13/2008, -0/+20But pirates will penetrate the market; California is going to endure stiff competition, in the end.
- jmpeagle, on 05/13/2008, -2/+18really? Strip clubs made more money than the various wall street firms raking in hundreds of millions per day?
All large conventions or sporting events make lots and lots of money for prostitutes and strippers. There are huge migrations of sex workers during the Olympics, World Cup, Super Bowl, DNC and RNC conventions etc... - yojiffyskippy, on 05/13/2008, -1/+15Diggers with an agenda?!?!?!? Oh the HORROR! What's next? Armies of Obama-bots / Ron-bots / Anti-Hillary bots? And it will continue as long as Digg allows the SHOUT-spam "feature".
- AriaStar, on 05/13/2008, -4/+20Um...why? I can see the larger tax on cigarettes, because the burden of health care for those who choose to smoke often falls to tax payers at some point, same for alcohol (as well as worse things than a drinker's own health), but why porn? I'm a girl who doesn't care for it, but it is a stupid tax.
- theNazz, on 05/13/2008, -7/+24This is nothing more than a 'sin' tax... smoking, drinking, now porn and strip clubs? Start with taxing these 'mega-churches' and let us all reap the harvest!
- blast_flame, on 05/13/2008, -2/+16Or if they just legalized it, didn't tax it and lowered their spending they also wouldn't have a problem...
- oldhick, on 05/13/2008, -2/+17Why do we still implement social and behavioral taxes? Why don't we simply move to a fair tax system that taxes everyone and everything equally.
- skyshock1, on 05/13/2008, -2/+15Why do governments insist on trying to control people's behavior through taxation? It doesn't work.
- Bridea, on 05/13/2008, -2/+13@theragu40
Do you know what Germany used to be? Things change for a reason. Normally, it's because the people directly involved effect the change. If you want crap, go to Fark. - Joomal, on 05/13/2008, -1/+11There is nothing wrong with submitting stories to digg, even if it is for corporate gain. If it gets dugg, it's news worthy. You know what.. these stories have alot more meat than 99% of the crud that gets posted on digg anyways, which honestly, looks more and more like a teen magazine.
- Sucka27, on 05/13/2008, -1/+12That's called a tax on lack of mental horsepower. If you haven't learned how to pirate porn yet, well...I'm speechless.
- Akaji, on 05/13/2008, -8/+22If I want news from an "actual news source," then I'll go to the website of an "actual news source." I go to Digg for random stuff that isn't mainstream news.
- faskill, on 05/13/2008, -1/+11The problem I have with these taxes (sin taxes) is that the money being taxed has already been taxed. Money is derived from income. There is an income tax. If I pay 20%(random number) towards income tax, why should I have to pay a tax on the remaining amount of my income? Does anyone ever really to stop and figure out what they are actually getting taxed? http://www.afrr.us/taxes-list.html has but a few taxes... there are several more.
- bicyclethief, on 05/13/2008, -0/+9Not caring for porn is a blight upon God.
- uriman, on 05/13/2008, -0/+9lawmakers did it just to see porn stars "testify"
- Metman, on 05/13/2008, -0/+10I do not understand this line of thinking. Let us tax that which we feel is inferior in 'our' morality. So that the 'deviants'/'sinners' can pay for everyone including those who will never pay these taxes because they choose not to patronage that particular industry. At least with cigarettes they could make the argument that it effects the health care costs of all taxpayers.
- tnoy, on 05/13/2008, -0/+10Wait, you're complaining about a link direct to the news source?
Ok, new rule for Digg: from now on only people with zero connections to anything are allowed to post news stories. Also, it must be a link direct to the AP newswire. - RainDodger, on 05/13/2008, -3/+11that's funny.
- thedogfatherx, on 05/13/2008, -0/+9Stupid proposal writen up by a stupid dumb dumb head politician. Why is the thought proccess behind this? Why just strip clubs and porn? Why not any other type of business?
- mrsteveman1, on 05/13/2008, -2/+11Yes, we call that socialism.
The problem with that "just raise taxes" theory is, those programs won't happen. In the US the federal government already takes in WAY WAY WAY more than it would need to run programs like that, and large amounts of it get wasted. The difference between this reality and your fantasy socialist utopia, is not raised taxes, its a worthless government. - wertach, on 05/13/2008, -4/+13Why do we need free daycare ? If you can't afford a kid don't spit one out!
- RIPtechtv, on 05/13/2008, -0/+7I am in California and it brings a tear to my eye everytime I buy something on newegg.
- painperdu, on 05/13/2008, -0/+9Open Source porn?
- spyd3rweb, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6Depends on your point of view, it works perfectly if you're the government.
- Calinthalus, on 05/13/2008, -1/+7Or if you take economics at a major private university (like I did) you might hear that raising taxes actually lowers the governments income. Higher percentage does not equal higher income amounts. By raising the prices, you lower the demand. By lowering demand you decrease the number of units purchased. In most cases, this also lowers total income.
- treed, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6A sweet ass-place you say?
- vault, on 05/13/2008, -3/+9CA and the rest of the country, too. It is a goldmine waiting to happen if the government could stop being an uptight prude for 10 seconds.
- Harelin, on 05/13/2008, -0/+7I have never understood why folks vilify individual submitters. It is not their fault that the stories they submit are dugg. Digg presents the community with a choice, and that's the beauty of it.
- unicronband, on 05/13/2008, -2/+8Yeah, Digg is pretty much just crowdsourced shameless self-promotion disguised as social media. If you did want to steal his thunder though, you could pull the XKCD/Zero Punctuation routine and troll NBC11's stories, submitting them before this guy. If you really wanted to be a dick, you could do what the Scientologists do and submit the story with a nonsense title like "NKJAS89UF*^#$^h*(#", so that it gets ignored or buried. Digg's dupe detector blocks more than one submission/link, so it would kill the story as far as Digg is concerned. Or you could just ignore/bury his submissions. I bury every Daily Mail story I see due to their flagrant spam and trashy content, but it's still within their rights to whore out their banal waste. It's social media Darwinism. Make use of the tools Digg gives you.
- portnoy, on 05/13/2008, -0/+7If they would enact this tax in Washington DC it might make the federal government self sustaining! :) Talk about the fed eating its own tail.
- xxMarka, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6no one has ever successfully said "This thread is EPIC WIN!!"
