- col381, on 10/01/2008, -8/+558I can see the moon from my house, therefore I am an Astronaut.
- divinediva, on 10/01/2008, -5/+168The poverty rate is over 40%, there is no television, and the only practical way to reach it is by helicopter.
- Surferess, on 10/01/2008, -7/+119This gal drops one gaff after another. Whomever selected her must be just mortified when she does these interviews. She isn't any more informed that my 15 & 17 yo sons.
- fishbeef33, on 10/01/2008, -12/+122I have to say, this is kind of a pointless article. Even if she DID go to this place and literally see Russia from Alaska, what would that matter? Is she going to suddenly understand complex geopolitical issues by staring at a shoreline?? From my office window I can see autumn leaves changing color, that does NOT make me an expert on botany.
- LemonHerb, on 10/01/2008, -2/+108So you mean she doesn't have foreign policy experience then?
- 5celery, on 10/01/2008, -5/+93Sarah Palin lies like a rug.
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -5/+88My neighbors are a bunch of hot girls, therefore I must be getting pussy.
- jonssonar, on 10/01/2008, -2/+68In Soviet Russia, Alaska See You!!!
- cuecat, on 10/01/2008, -2/+57Anyone catch Putin rearing his head in the CNN clip?
- LaceKing, on 10/01/2008, -4/+57It was absolutely stupid that she tried to use "seeing Russia" as a foreign policy credential.
Now, turns out she lied about her non-existent credential.
the issue here isn't the fact that she can't she russia from where she lives. Hey, I used to live in Detroit and could see Canada from land--so effing what? The ISSUE is the fact that
~she made herself look stupid with her original comment
~her comment had no substantial point in the first place
~and turns out, as THIS article points out, she was bull$#!tting us about ever seeing Russia in the first place.
That's why it matters. - NyteStarNyne, on 10/01/2008, -5/+58She can see the island that can see Russia. Surely that must count for something.
- statrick, on 10/01/2008, -2/+53but does she wear her flag pin??????????????????
- UncleTimmy, on 10/01/2008, -1/+43I make mock responses to the most popular comment, therefore I am a digger.
:D - FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/01/2008, -0/+38"laughing my boobs off?"
not bad. - mrseptic, on 10/01/2008, -2/+39It makes her a liar.
- youliveinfear, on 10/01/2008, -4/+36I'm fairly certain that the statement was figurative but it still was one of the stupidest things said in this campaign. I would say the stupidest but she goes and tops it every time she's interviewed.
- scojac, on 10/01/2008, -2/+34That sentence is a perfect logical parallel to Palin's claims, and perfectly exposes the absurd nature of her stupid, stupid claims.
- Rapter09, on 10/01/2008, -1/+33It's not really gossip though. She's the one who started this whole thing about Russia, trying to blow herself up to be more than she is with foreign policy. And now she's paying for it. This is an issue. What's at the root of all this foolishness about Russia and her being able to see Putin's forehead and eyes on the horizon? Her lack of foreign policy experience. I think the world sees the issues a little clearer than yourself if you think this is gossip.
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -7/+35the poverty rate there is skewed, because when you live independently and are self sufficient but make no income, you are technically impoverished.
- MisteryMeat, on 10/01/2008, -0/+28I'd have a lot more respect for her if she could just say what rest of the world already knows: "No, I do not really have any foreign policy experience". Instead she just digs the hole deeper.
- hipnerd, on 10/01/2008, -0/+28Who "dredged it up"? Palin volunteered it. Maybe if she gave more than three interviews, or if she actually said things that made sense, there would be more of substance to talk about. It's not the Dems fault McCain chose "Caribou Barbie" to be his running mate.
- Alli3388, on 10/01/2008, -0/+28That was CNN, not the Obama campaigners. Are you voting? Hope not. I think that voters should at least know the difference between CNN or FOX News and the actual politicians and presidential campaigns.
- MindyB, on 10/01/2008, -4/+30It is a nice testament to Palin's ability as a governor! this poor little village in her State has a poverty rate of 40%! and has no roads, airstrips, television! wow! Great job Gov. Palin! I bet there are many other out of the way villages that have the same or worse conditions that Palin doesn't even know about. Well considering that she has only been in the Capital building 82 days in the 21 months she has been governor, what does one expect! 82 days working in the capital as Governor of Alaska! that is the equivalent of three months of work!
And they call her a CEO?! - rz8472, on 10/01/2008, -0/+25The transitive property FTW!
- TonyLocNE, on 10/01/2008, -1/+25I bet she shags like one too...
- Rikkochet, on 10/01/2008, -0/+23Actually, she can't.
Little Diomede is 25mi (40km) from the coast of Alaska. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Diomede)
The horizon appears at a distance of 4.7km when standing at average height. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizon).
Which means, after some exciting high school math, that Palin may have been able to sight Little Diomede on an extraordinarily clear day if she were standing 42 feet off the ground and squinting really hard to see the tiny white speck in the distance - probably not so easy since the whole island is pretty much AT sea level. - Hot4Geeks, on 10/01/2008, -0/+20This is not gossip. Palin's daughter having Trig is gossip. This is part of her political portfolio. Sorry for you your candidate is such an idiot. Better luck nex time. :)
- Terasiel, on 10/01/2008, -2/+22I get your point, but that's a real shame to compare your sons to someone like that. Those poor boys.
- blackdaisies, on 10/01/2008, -10/+29Okay guys, i'm as liberal as the next hippy, but Sarah Palin never claimed to see Russia personally. She does in fact, state the proximity of Alaska and Russia as her foreign policy experience WHICH IS LOLLERIFIC I MIGHT ADD but I've never heard her say "*I* can see Russia from my house." or anything like it. The actual quote was along the lines "They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." Please get the facts before you.. what's that word? ... mock.. yeah ... mock. FREE SARAH PALIN!
- paulieslim, on 10/01/2008, -1/+20I can see the parking lot from my office chair.
- NYConcepts, on 10/01/2008, -3/+22Is anyone at all surprised? I mean seriously...
- Rodalli, on 10/01/2008, -1/+19"LMBO!!"
..wut? - Hot4Geeks, on 10/01/2008, -5/+22I'm sorry, but to all who don't understand this statement, the intelligence behind it is lost on you. Wealth is relative. To a native group of people with no sense of currency, but a full belly and shelter, how can you call them living within poverty just because they are not living by over-consumptive American standards? A BMW and DVD collection is not the true value of life to everyone in the world.
- Eilasor, on 10/01/2008, -5/+21This is just silly.. she said, "they're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."
So... where is the lie? - RhoVisions, on 10/01/2008, -0/+16No no... she was in a helicopter shooting a baby wolf, and saw the island from there... a few weeks later, someone mentioned something about garbage drifting into Russia from the island, and suddenly she knew all she needed to know about Russia
- TurdZilla, on 10/01/2008, -1/+16I have watched alot of p0rn so that makes me a porn star :-)
- sougly, on 10/02/2008, -0/+15Yeah. Pics so we can all be getting pussy, too.
- WeThePeople2012, on 10/01/2008, -2/+17laughing my balls off?
- rcguy69, on 10/01/2008, -1/+15Not only can you see Russia from Alaska, you can see human footsteps inside the fossils of dinosaur footsteps - and they belong to Jesus!
- scarper86, on 10/01/2008, -0/+13Wow, you've missed the point by such a staggering degree that it'd be easier to see Russia.
- aleceiffel87, on 10/01/2008, -3/+16Not to downplay the absurdity of all this, but did she ever actually claim to have been there? As far as I know, she just said that one CAN see Russia from parts of Alaska.
- gcnaddict, on 10/01/2008, -1/+14Rugs lie flat.
Palin can't even do that. - 5celery, on 10/01/2008, -0/+13what do you mean?
- MindyB, on 10/01/2008, -0/+12Figurative?? She has repeated that "figurative" statement on numerous occasions to defend her "foreign policy experience"! No, she gets no slack here, she made her bed now she has to lay in it. She thinks we are all morons, and she can continue to lie and speak in non sensical sentences to us while she thinks we sit in awe and admiration of her! She is an embarrassment to the human race! I can just imagine what the rest of the world is thinking of America now!
- urbandistrict, on 10/01/2008, -0/+12Rightly played my good sir.
- hilts50, on 10/02/2008, -1/+13Actually one of the houses can get Dish Network. For the rest of them, the island is blocking the view of the southern sky. I have been out there a couple of times. Both by helicopter in the fall, and by plane in the winter. When the ocean ice freezes up they plow a runway on the international dateline allowing Cessna Caravan II and other small aircraft to land. The Bering Strait School District has a school in the village. It is not the only place in Alaska where you can see main land Russia. Savoonga, Gambell, Wales, and Shishmaref are all villages in the Bering Strait School District that you are able to see Russia on clear days.
You can check out a video I made of Little Dio and the other villages by going here....

- h4ckler, on 10/01/2008, -4/+16Sarah Palin? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....(gasp) AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
- Me0wmix, on 10/01/2008, -4/+16I'm sorry, but CNN is awesome for doing this.
- doublefelix, on 10/01/2008, -0/+11Was that a rhetorical question?
