- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -11/+238Hmm... 24% blame Dems. What's W's approval rating again?
I'm sensing a pattern here. - bluevillage, on 09/22/2008, -7/+124FTA: Where did Obama make his gains? "In two core McCain constituencies: Men, who now narrowly favor Obama. And seniors, who have also flipped from McCain to Obama," says CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider.
- tsf5000, on 09/22/2008, -7/+94Way to go neocons. I suppose the answer to this is more tax cuts for the rich?
- Castaa, on 09/22/2008, -6/+91The financial crisis is a huge positive factor for Obama through the November election. Obama must win. Sadly, he'll inherit this colossal mess if he does.
- Linguo, on 09/22/2008, -10/+81BUT BUT BUT...SARAH PALIN? SHE'S OUR OBAMA! WE CAN'T LOSE.
- kdawg1012, on 09/22/2008, -7/+69Think about it. Do we really want an befuddled old man to handle such a crisis when he even admits that he doesn't understand economics very well? Not only no, but hell no!
- sullivanst, on 09/22/2008, -3/+61Let's see...
Alan Greenspan was appointed by... Ronald Reagan.
The act which repealed the Glass-Steagal Act was written by... Phil Gramm.
The Commodity Futures Modernization Act was written by... Phil Gramm.
Alan Greenspan was the deregulator-in-chief.
The GLBA allowed companies like AIG to become "too big to fail" by breaking down the firewalls between retail and investment banks, and banks and insurers. This is the only part of the puzzle that Clinton carries any of the blame for - he didn't HAVE to sign this act.
The CFMA removed any transparency or oversight of the credit default swap market. CDSs are what were threatening to drag AIG under, as they were the biggest players in a market with more paper value than the entire world's GDP. And without CDSs, the banks wouldn't have had the (unjustified) confidence to buy MBSs without the slightest idea how good the underlying loans were. Without CDSs, there would be no subprime mortgage market. And the CFMA was inserted literally in the dead of night in committee, into a must-pass government reauthorization bill. - BishkekBuddy, on 09/22/2008, -1/+46It's better than having McCain inherit it! What a sorry sorry state we'd be in! Hmmm... actually, if McCain wins, I personally won't be in ANY state... I'll probably be in Canada!
- cheesegypsy, on 09/23/2008, -4/+44Trickle-down economics. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm tired of getting pissed on by rich people who pull the strings in Washington.
- algaeturd, on 09/23/2008, -10/+46No ***** *****, it's the republicans' fault. They've completely lied their way through almost an entire decade. Those lies are catching up...they're DIRECTLY and SOLEY responsible for the deficit that we'll never get paid off, the fact that health care hasn't been addressed, the fact that the economy is failing and on its way to a collapse. Bush spent more money than all presidents before him COMBINED. That's a fact. And there are people in the country who still have some suspicions that it's the Dems' faults?
Proof positive that Americans can be easily led because they're uneducated. Simple as that. Know the facts (the facts, not the spin) and things start to make sense REAL quick. - inactive, on 09/23/2008, -6/+42If McCain wins, the polls must be rigged. Vote.
- Hillsfar, on 09/22/2008, -4/+33Xman8, it is scary that you are a voter and yet you are so ignorant of the truth. When they say American deserves what it gets, I think of today's economy and I think of voters like you... and I hope that there are more voters unlike you.
- seddyei, on 09/22/2008, -10/+38It only took 8 years of disastrous policies to see that the Republicans are merely con-artists... time to give Obama a chance as a Democrat. Once he's done - we go Ron Paul and never look back.
- Bith8654, on 09/23/2008, -1/+29Seniors?! Obama just secured Florida.
- kdawg1012, on 09/22/2008, -4/+25Even after the crisis, McCain wants to make the Bus tax cuts permanent ... and wants to cut taxes on the rick even more.
- shupy, on 09/23/2008, -2/+22Well it sure helps if a Democrat is president. No need to get a huge majority to overide the presidential veto. A simple majority in both houses would do it.
It took the depression to sweep Hoover and his fellow Republicans out of power so that the Democrats could fix the economy and end the excesses of wall street caused by greed.
But the Republicans snuck back and tore it all down, so now we have to fix it all over again.. - inactive, on 09/23/2008, -2/+21It should be a law that no one may enter government to make a profit. Too many people in "public service" are getting rich off of it, and that's just absurd.
- jeffbw, on 09/23/2008, -2/+19Of course, duh. More tax cuts for the rich will make even more of their excrement trickle down to the rest of us.
- breadfred, on 09/23/2008, -0/+17Interesting thought: Haven't heard from the Palin lately. What are her thougths on this crisis? Really, her thoughts. Not someone elses.
- pullablank, on 09/23/2008, -0/+17No bro its cool, she's close to Russia, she knows their secrets to economic success.
- booksnmore4you, on 09/23/2008, -1/+18Stop echoing hate radio talking points and think for yourself.

FTA:
McCain's untruths, in their frequency and their audacity, defy any modern historical precedent.
Despite having his claims Exposed in nearly every media outlet, the McCain campaign continued to assert it anyway, day after day, dozens of times in all.
But what happened after that was even more unusual, and possibly without precedent:
McCain’s supporters simply suggested that the truth or falsity of their statements didn’t matter!
McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said this to Politico about the increased media scrutiny of the campaign’s factual claims:
“We’re running a campaign to win. And we’re not too concerned about what the media filter tries to say about it.”
— AMAZING ! McCain staff admit “WE ARE LIARS. SO WHAT?” - poxonyou, on 09/23/2008, -2/+18It's the ever faithful (Jesus/God was a Republican), the professional Republicans, and those who benefit the most from Republicans.
- Gabberwok, on 09/23/2008, -5/+21Never underestimate the American public's fear of black people with funny sounding names. :-(
- AndrewDB, on 09/23/2008, -0/+15She's your ticket to the democrats getting the white house.
Thanks guys. :) - humptyz, on 09/23/2008, -2/+17Yeah, but Phil Gramm, a Republican, co-authored it and a Republican controlled Congress had a veto proof vote for it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gramm-Leach-Bliley_Ac ... - aliengoods, on 09/23/2008, -0/+14Actually, the majority of that 24% get screwed by Republicans regularly. They're just too damn stupid to realize who's hitting them over the head again and again.
- Thinbev, on 09/23/2008, -3/+17This is not a Republican/Democrat issue. This is a direct result of a flawed monetary and banking system that is guaranteed to fail regardless of who's president.
The Federal Reserve is to blame for this entire debacle.
To learn more about what I just said, I suggest you watch this awesome video:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-905047436 ... - Gabberwok, on 09/23/2008, -0/+14But he can surely lean upon the experience of his VP candidate to help him decide how best to intervene in our economic crisis. Mooseburgers to the rescue!
- highlymodified, on 09/23/2008, -2/+15***** that.
BUY SEEDS AND A TON OF HYDROPONIC NUTRIENTS.
By the time the GOP is done with this country, you'll need to grow your own food. - inactive, on 09/23/2008, -3/+15Huh? That is a first for Repub talking points in my book. What is this "overregulation" you speak of? Seriously, I want to know where you got that info!
- Gabberwok, on 09/23/2008, -3/+14Have any evidence? How did regulation cause the banks to hand out risky loans without having enough capital? And why is it that the regulated banks are intact, but the investment banks outside of Depression-era regulations are the ones that are failing?
At least tell me you're against the bailouts, otherwise I don't see how you can even pretend to think your position makes sense.... (Not saying I oppose bailouts completely, just saying a completely free market ideology should completely preclude the possibility of bailouts.) - Dumbledorito, on 09/23/2008, -3/+14And more deregulation. Because having too many rules is what caused these guys to make so many completely foolish and greedy decisions.
- inactive, on 09/23/2008, -5/+16Don't Democrats have to pass these bills to get them in the open regardless of who is in power?
- Meursault, on 09/23/2008, -3/+14The financial crisis made McCain's choice of Palin even more ridiculous. Notice how that circus folded its tent pretty ***** quickly after the news hit? Sarah-MANIA stories dried up overnight.
- perkoff, on 09/23/2008, -3/+13People are going to vote for McCain they'll say "The republicans got us into this mess I want to give them a chance to get us out of it."
That's a quote from some jackass 4 years ago talking about the ***** up Iraq 4 years ago. - avataros, on 09/23/2008, -6/+16Now that cronyism economics has gone out of style, I hope the Dems can capitalize on this for a few decades...
- Thinbev, on 09/23/2008, -0/+9What happens after those few decades?
Too much centralized power is dangerous because even if you get the best people in charge, they don't last forever and will always be taken over by tyrants.
Washington needs to shrink or else we'll always be screwed. Big government is bad. Period. - Lavarock, on 09/23/2008, -5/+14http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_Reinvestmen ...
This caused the housing bubble. It takes a while for ***** to hit the fan in this way. They had to stretch the safeguards in order to comply with the Community Reinvestment Act, which demands that banks lend equally to lower income brackets as they do to higher income brackets. This sounds nice, or it used to sound nice, but the act forced banks to lend money to people who couldn't afford the cost.
Hint: Clinton passed it. - phdude, on 09/23/2008, -1/+10WOW and I thought it was the FED???
- zyklon, on 09/23/2008, -1/+10It's about time...
- Mardala, on 09/23/2008, -2/+10Yeah ... our 10 Trillion dollar credit card is getting maxed out? So what happens when the US declares bankruptcy? Will the US go to http://www.FixYourBadCredit.cn and setup a payment plan?
Reaganomics .. whoo hoo. - OstrakonX, on 09/23/2008, -0/+8I pray that was sarcasm.
- pennvneff, on 09/23/2008, -5/+13Republicans are a bigger threat than Al Qaeda to the Constitution and the American way of life.
- Arcueid01, on 09/23/2008, -2/+10This is stupid. It wasn't the Republicans. It was the Democrats and the Republicans in concert. First off Congress is the only body which can spend money. They have to give it to the executive branch. If they don't then the executive can't spend it. Do you people not see that the mass media sensationalizes this garbage? It is like watching a god damned soap opera on TV. It was the Democrats who sold you out over FISA. And guess what, the Republicans were also in bed with AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint on that one. WIll everyone wake the ***** up and open their eyes? I could go from issue to issue and show you that there is no difference between Republican and Democrat.
Wait, I concede there is a difference between them. I can't tell you what it is, but for arguments sake I will say there is. That difference DOESN'T Matter.
Both candidates will:
1. Increase the size and reach of government
2. Continue foreign wars
3. Continue destroying our treasured civil liberties
4. Spend way too much money
Vote 3rd party guys. If you don't do it for yourselves do it for America.
Check out Chuck Baldwin. - Trey9128, on 09/23/2008, -4/+12Unfortunately for Obama, it's now clear that he previously fought reform of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that Alan Greenspan said was essential to avoiding this crisis down the road. Probably didn't have anything to do with the more than $100,000 he got from them in campaign contributions.
All politicians are crooks! Many of the people on Digg are still at the stage where they think that only the "other guy" is a crook. Hopefully they'll come to know the truth eventually. - birdly, on 09/23/2008, -5/+13More BS from the right wing thieves.
Here's what Obama had to say today:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20080921/pl_polit ... - JekJob, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7Wow that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. That's like a guy shooting you and then you allowing him to perform the surgery.
- aliengoods, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7I'm not sure what all of those acronyms mean, but well said!
- aliengoods, on 09/23/2008, -1/+8I was wondering how long before "blame Clinton!!" would make it's way to this thread. He's shares some of the responsibility, but get over your demonizing of the man. He got a blow job. Deal with it.
Also, Clinton isn't running for office. McCain is, and there's a very real chance Gramm will be his treasury secretary. I don't want the man who authored the worst piece of financial legislation in history to be in charge of wiping my ass, much less the treasury. -
