- truthstream, on 03/21/2008, -21/+274Wow. Thank you! Finally - some context!
- AtHomeBoy2000, on 03/21/2008, -29/+260This guys shows more knowledge on past foreign policy than the currant administration.
- CH3CH2OH, on 03/21/2008, -26/+200Who needs context when you can bend, distort, and splice video footage to generate faux outrage? Here's a question:
Fox News is pushing this story. Why?
1) They're genuinely offended
2) They want to get John McCain elected
Hmm.... I wonder which one... - NManX, on 03/21/2008, -10/+176And the video of the Wright's "God Damn America" sermon in context
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RvMbeVQj6Lw - MoZeu, on 03/21/2008, -18/+141Golly, I am so shocked, aren't you? Who would've expected this from the same media that brought us the endless amplified tape of Al Gore sighing, the "Love Canal" and "internet" lies, the endless amplified loop of Dean "screaming," who gave the Swiftboaters about a 100x return on their 500K investment in free media play of their disgusting lies, and so forth and so on, ad nauseum. Really, I never would have expected such a thing. I am shocked. Why would they splice out a few seconds of scary-sounding stuff and totally delete and never talk about the context or the meaning of the sermon, never even allude to it? Why would they do that? I just can't figure that out. Can someone help me? I'm sure there must be a pattern here, but I just can't seem to piece it together . . .
- l2scoo, on 03/21/2008, -10/+110We need to get this out to the blue collar workers, non bloggers, and less internet savvy voters. (no offense)
It can't remain just something passed amongst college students - acesfull11, on 03/21/2008, -12/+109I'm surprised. I have only seen the clips of Wright that are played over and over again on TV, showing what appears to be a racist anti-American hatemonger, but when you actually watch his entire sermon and listen to the message, that's just not the case. It's a case of cherry picking by the media and Obama haters who are missing the point... All I can say is watch for yourselves. He could have chosen some better words, but the message is not hateful at all.
- livelife1, on 03/21/2008, -12/+107WOW, TALK ABOUT A HIGH TECH LYNCHING
- fosterlove, on 03/21/2008, -17/+103We have to do something to hold the MSM, especially Fox, accountable for destroying this man reputation. Fox, all of their talent, conspired intentionally to distort the intent of his sermon. They did it to promote their political agenda and to enrich themselves. The other news organizations fell in lock step. I am ashamed to have given the MSM any of my trust to keep me informed. They can not be trusted to faithfully report and inform. Thank God for the bloggers to get the truth out.
- eustaciavye, on 03/21/2008, -5/+90Wow! Context changes everything. I got suckered by the MSM on this one. A man who sounded angry and hate filled, now sounds to me like a man who loves deeply. That angry tone is the indignation a good person feels when innocents are needlessly sacrificed for vengeance and terrorism. We could all use a Reverend Wright to prompt us to reflect upon our own lives and avoid rushing to retaliate when we feel wronged. I can see why this man has been a spiritual leader to Obama (and why Bill Clinton was smiling so broadly when he met him).
- treelovinhippie, on 03/21/2008, -7/+71Obama's speech should have actually put forward the points Rev Wright did here. It's kind of what Ron Paul, Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich have been talking about (and no one else). Before going on a massive world police, empire building, war on terror campaign... the first step should have been to analyze why America was attacked. And it's exactly what is said in this video. It is because America is a ***** world bully. America has performed more terrorist attacks worldwide than any of the labeled "terror organizations/countries".
- inactive, on 03/21/2008, -12/+60I didn't see anything wrong with what he said aside from the "god this god that" stuff.....He's correct that everything is coming back to bite us in the ass......sadly we've got these neocons that run the country. They (the real terrorists) should be looked at the same way as al-qaeda.
- jaymzdean, on 03/21/2008, -9/+57I canceled my cable subscription 3 months ago and haven't missed it one bit. Oh sure, I still have my big screen tv and will watch a movie on dvd once or twice per week. I highly recommend it.
- SmokeyBBQ, on 03/21/2008, -9/+50Well, I guess you guys can now get a sense of what it's been like to be a Ron Paul supporter. It hurts pretty damn bad when the mainstream media trashes a decent, honest man. While I'm definitely still voting for Ron (I will have to write him in), I am a realist and am now rooting for Obama since I feel that out of the 3 viable candidates left, he will do our country the least amount of damage. Whether or not you agree with my choice for our President, the main thing we should start questioning is how our sources of media are influencing the way in which candidates are being presented to the broader public.
- inactive, on 03/21/2008, -13/+51The Lamestream Media is the propaganda whore of the fascist regime. Why would anyone own a TV set? The only TV/Radio worth listening to is Democracy Now! See if a radio or TV station in your area carries it. It's WPFW 89.3 FM here in DC, 8AM and 6PM every day.
http://www.democracynow.org
Streaming video and archives of all the old shows. - PopePhred, on 03/21/2008, -6/+43But that's nothing new. The Conservative media is a well-oiled machine with a common goal. The other side, however, is disorganized, splintered, with no common purpose. Also, I'm not sure that the "spin doctors" you mention are under the Obama payroll; rather, they seem to be more interested in portraying Trinity church in it's proper context.
Also of note, while you may have criticized the time it took for these videos to surface, I don't hear you criticizing the actual message of the sermons. That tells me that you either didn't watch the video, begrudgingly agree (and thusly do not wish to concede that point), or you disagree, but didn't feel like entering a real debate. - Jeepy, on 03/21/2008, -3/+39I really don't understand all this nonsense. After the Ohio and Texas primaries everyone acknowledged that the seven weeks leading up to to Penn primaries would be full of negative campaigning. It seems as if the average American has an attention span so short they don't remember what transpired two and a half weeks ago. Why is any of this fear mongering getting attention? People comment that Obama is taking a political hit and that he is floundering. The fact is simply this: Clinton used negative campaign tactics for the last two weeks and some people bought it. What sickens me is that people can attack Obama for actually making a speech against his own political interests to get an important positive message out.
The fact is the day Barack made that speech there wasn't one voice of dissent on this site but all of a sudden a few days later people are regurgitating the stuff they heard on CNN and Fox News as if its gospel. Are Clinton supporters of a mind that somehow bringing both of them down in the national polls is good for our party? Funny thing is after Penn this will all be forgotten and she'll be playing on the fears of the next state to have a primary. Maybe McCain will just offer Hilary the Republican nomination and he can be her VP on a dream ticket. That way she can do what she so desperately wants and run for president and our party can get back to trying to restore dignity to this nation. - jimbo92107, on 03/21/2008, -5/+40Violence begets violence. What a controversial statement...NOT.
The MSM is pulling yet another fast one on the American public.
Let us foil their evil plan. - Po0py, on 03/21/2008, -1/+34He has cool footnotes.
- Kaygee606, on 03/21/2008, -7/+40Context is so essential that the MSM rarely provides it and we viewers rarely demand it. Why are we so quick to believe what we see from TV? This is why John Stewart has a job because it's just too hilarious!
- bovox, on 03/21/2008, -2/+34I read the buried negative comments here, and wonder: How hard could it be for someone to actually watch the video and write an intelligent rebuttal to it? Seriously. Why are all the negative comments unthoughtful and inaccurate?
- Zlorp, on 03/21/2008, -2/+33i dont see a single thing wrong with what this man said. it may be more truth than some of the ignorant people of this country can handle, but if anything he should be praised for being one of the few people trying to make america realize that the problems this country faces have been brought on by its foreign policy. he preaches a message of peace, and its one that i wish more americans would wake up and realize
- zeiben, on 03/21/2008, -4/+35mmmm.... I remember the currant administration. Everyone had toast.... good times.
- kublerross, on 03/21/2008, -1/+31how about we just get the college students to VOTE!
christ they could outvote all the retired blue hairs the rublicans bus from the nursing home to vote easily if they just SHOWED THE ***** UP - Harboggles, on 03/21/2008, -5/+35You should be ashamed for labeling this exposure of disgusting corporate news in such a way. This man preached nothing but compassion, fact, and history. I am an athiest and I would love to buy this man a big steak dinner. He is a prime example of how Christians should behave in society. Not squabbling over petty issues, but working forward.
- Yatata, on 03/21/2008, -8/+37Fox broke the story. the other stations ran with it to stay competitive - and watch your mouth, ignorance is unattractive.
- dinot, on 03/21/2008, -0/+29WOW. Putting things in context is now considered spin? Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you exhibit A. This subject, as you can see, is suffering from what is known as "confirmation bias" (or CB), whereby one seeks and finds confirmatory evidence in support of ALREADY existing beliefs and ignore or reinterpret evidence to the contrary. In a recent study, MRI imaging has shown that persons suffering from CB showed little to no activity in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the area of the brain responsible for reasoning and logic. Interestingly enough, one of the most active part of the brain was the ventral striatum, which is related to reward and pleasure.

He made comments about the presence of injustice, and made some questionable accusations against the government that veer into conspiracy theory territory. That's not the same thing. - Mydnyte, on 03/21/2008, -3/+30Whoa. That guy's a badass. Any more vids of him around?
- nihilite, on 03/21/2008, -1/+27that's not what that word means.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem - imgstacke, on 03/21/2008, -2/+28I get the feeling Hillary didn't have anything to do with this, but the people who run corporate media pushed this out there to see Barack crushed, elevating Hillary in the process, and thus ensuring the Democrats Convention would be sent into chaos...
I am so THANKFUL Barack didn't play into this trap... The ruse didn't work. The man has kung-fu skills...
There needs to be a congressional investigation into the MSM, of this I am certain. - spankaccount, on 03/21/2008, -5/+30Thank GOD all mighty!!!! Thank you for posting this, my brother. The lord works in mysterious ways indeed.
- dn11, on 03/21/2008, -0/+25Wow, I'm starting to have more respect this guy all the time. If white man had been saying this stuff using a more quiet tone of voice their would be pretty much no controversy over this. As a matter of fact he sounds like Ron Paul on his foreign policy criticisms.
- nickelking, on 03/21/2008, -3/+26congrats, you found the typo on the internet.
- smotpoker, on 03/21/2008, -2/+25I would like to say for the record, I viewed several of these videos in context immediately after they began to surface on digg a lot like 5 days ago and have been defending Wright ever since, clearly stating that in context they are inspirational statements on morality and denouncements of political manipulation of christianity.
I was consistently buried.
Unfortunately, even here on digg, many people are too lazy to even bother searching youtube on their own and require spoon fed information from "reputable sources" (ie whoever is wearing a suit and tie).
I say we flood CNN and MSNBC with angry emails and comments until they retract everything detrimental they ever said about Wright before it's too late! (Fox News is a lost cause) - davdev, on 03/21/2008, -3/+26Comedy vs "news" learn the difference
- DuffyDirect, on 03/21/2008, -3/+25this is unbelievable
- pvmuse, on 03/21/2008, -1/+22Please put this up on Digg
- Harboggles, on 03/21/2008, -5/+26Does anyone have a transcript of this? I really need one.
- sesstreets, on 03/21/2008, -2/+22When you hear the whole thing like this.... he's really quite a smart person.
- kublerross, on 03/21/2008, -5/+25"He is just as stupid and insane "in context." Just more boring."
translation - "my brain is too ravaged from years of television to comprehend anything other than predigested sound bites anymore. you dont honestly expect me to pay attention to something longer than a few minutes and form my own conclusions do you? where is the post sermon commentary so i know what to think?" - pintomp3, on 03/21/2008, -0/+20"I got suckered by the MSM on this one." so did most americans. clinton is now leading obama in national polls. they've accomplished what they set out to do.
- nickelking, on 03/21/2008, -2/+21So you're saying you didn't watch the video.
- coneheart, on 03/21/2008, -3/+22You obviously didn't listen to what he said if you feel that way, because he did not call out a race as fault or just America as having failed. He stated that ALL races have suffered and ALL governments fail. That is neither racist nor anti-American.
If I were a Christian I'd want this guy as my spiritual adviser as well.
Think about it, if they have to take it so out of context that the media gives you just one sentence of an entire sermon, you're obviously being cheated. - mrjoanofarc, on 03/21/2008, -4/+22I wouldn't say his views are being INaccurately portrayed. He's supporting the "chicken roosting" statement! He didn't come up with it, but he's quoting it in agreement. And I have to say... I kind of agree with him. :/ What goes around comes around... and all these years American people like myself (though I'm 22 now) have never spoken out against these military actions taken by our government. Either we thought they were doing the right thing, didn't know about it, or disagreed with action that was taken but stayed silent. Little did we know all these years, we'd be held responsible for our government's actions-- HAH! I guess we're just supposed to let the world duke it out and board ourselves up in a nice and safe country.
- MentalHazard, on 03/21/2008, -2/+19See, Obama should win because poeple HAVE to take the things he and his affiliates say out of context. The same could not be said for Hillary.
- sindex, on 03/21/2008, -1/+18I don't want to answer for SmokeyBBQ, but I would suspect that he feels he must vote his conscious, and stand up for what he believes in and who he thinks can/could accomplish those things. Whether it falls on deaf ears doesn't matter. What's important is to not be ashamed of who you vote for.
I happen to agree this sentiment. However, knowing Ron Paul has no shot, and having already supported him for the last 10-ish months as loudly as I could, I've personally decided to vote for Obama. Although I disagree with him politically on many topics, I do trust the man. And in the end, I want a President I can trust. I can live with the political differences, but I cannot be lied to any longer. - kublerross, on 03/21/2008, -0/+17its not terrorism silly when we do it
we simply have to secure 3rd world governments which will act against their peoples interest and allow our corporations to exploit their labor and natural resources see. -
