- dynamitekidtx, on 11/05/2008, -23/+833CNN HAS HOLOGRAM TECHNOLOGY HOLY ***** ***** HOW LONG HAVE THEY HAD THIS?!?
- mattrud, on 11/05/2008, -19/+609SOMEBODY GET THIS TO PORN PRODUCERS IMMEDIATELY.
- smittysize, on 11/05/2008, -21/+601Think of the porn implications!
- pattyman5000, on 11/05/2008, -5/+377"Thank you Jessica. You were a terrific hologram."
- spyker3292, on 11/05/2008, -7/+374CNN is crazy! Magic Maps, holograms. What's next? Teleporters?
- heccubus, on 11/05/2008, -21/+360HOLY ***** THIS IS SO ***** IMPORTANT.
- plumptwyx, on 11/05/2008, -11/+332I ***** bricks when I saw this live.
- AlphaMack, on 11/05/2008, -24/+334I for one welcome our new holographic overlords.
- mikeabundo, on 11/05/2008, -1/+247Not real holography in the laser imaging sense -- more like multi-angle compositing -- but still fun.
- antiver, on 11/05/2008, -4/+236.................................... it's not actually a "hologram" ....................................
- KrayzieKyd, on 11/05/2008, -5/+206He doesn't. The image is superimposed on the broadcast, just like the background during the weatherman or yard lines during a football game.
Just the same, the 3-D capitol building wasn't actually there, they couldn't see anything. - Shruthi99, on 11/05/2008, -8/+174"I am a graduate of Starfleet Academy; I know many things."
- mwosh, on 11/05/2008, -10/+142Ok, so it looked cool from TV and online, but what does Wolf Blitzer see? If he sees the same thing... I'm impressed
- Elliuotatar, on 11/05/2008, -5/+137It's not a hologram. Wolf can't see it in front of him.
All they are doing is adding a 2D image of the woman to the video feed.
A 2D image taken from the same angle as whichever camera is currently pointed at Wolf, and aligned with the red dot on the floor, but a 2D image nonetheless.
The technology to do this is pretty simple and straightforward, and they have a pretty crappy implementation of it. They couldn't even get rid of the blue screen aura or show her feet!
When Wolf said it was like she was standing right in front of him, he was lying through his ***** teeth. - dirtpoorchris, on 11/05/2008, -4/+125And now Bush facepalms himself because CNN just gave away his trick for how he was going to have a Jesus hologram descend from the heavens and give him back his presidency.
- NextGenXbox, on 11/05/2008, -18/+129Holograms can't make up for the lack of journalism.
- Raz4Life, on 11/05/2008, -0/+96They obviously included that outline and the wavy distortion to make it look more futuristic.
"Technology so extreme, we can barely get it to work!" - ThisCommentSux, on 11/05/2008, -2/+85To be pedantic, none of them were *actually* holographic. It was video compositing - the "holographic" subjects were on green screens, and superimposed onto the main image. Cooper & Blitzer were looking at air. The main camera's tracking was fed to the "holo-cameras" to match the framing/angles.
Of course I'm making all this up... but I'm willing to bet on my arm-chair logic. - geckosite, on 11/05/2008, -2/+84The intergalactic cruiser is in the backyard...
- JoeHammer, on 11/05/2008, -1/+82No. Obama won.
- PhilLesh69, on 11/05/2008, -5/+80Why? It wasn't really a hologram.
Did you really think that Wolf Blitzer actually saw a person standing in front of him?
All they did was put a person in a tent at Grant Park, with green screen so they could then put just an image of her overlayed on the image of the studio with Wolf Blitzer.
It was no different than the other graphics on the screen. - sims89, on 11/05/2008, -27/+101CNN is, hands down, THE best place for political coverage on television. They are consistently cutting edge when compared to the rest. Thank you, Cable News Network.
- RMoore08, on 11/05/2008, -3/+66Dude... bro... why NOT?
- sockpuppets, on 11/05/2008, -5/+67Wolf Blitzer in: Nailin Palin.
- Shruthi99, on 11/05/2008, -0/+62Need a teleporter here! (tf2)
- spencerrock, on 11/05/2008, -2/+62Next, CNN will show their moon base.
- fwdkfwdkfwdk, on 11/05/2008, -3/+62LOL @ unnecessary technology. Nonetheless that was awesome.
- 0Xonox0, on 11/05/2008, -1/+58Because holograms are such an important part of covering elections.
- dicer999, on 11/05/2008, -3/+60AS LONG AS WE HAVE HAD THE CAPS LOCK KEY!!!
- popltree2, on 11/05/2008, -4/+60Rise, Lord Vader...
- bpapa, on 11/05/2008, -18/+73Help me, Obama wan. You're my only hope.
- inactive, on 11/05/2008, -0/+55Wouldn't it kinda be torture not being able to touch it though?
- inactive, on 11/05/2008, -2/+56If that's the case, then this is stupid.
And where did you get your information? And how do they get off calling this a hologram, if you're right? - Selkies, on 11/05/2008, -0/+49nothing new there
- MindStalker, on 11/05/2008, -0/+47What really pissed me off is how they purposefully diminished the quality of the "hologram" making it flicker and show an outline. Just to make it hologrammy. Lame.
- acash0902, on 11/05/2008, -3/+49Obi-Wan..?
- VanishingLex, on 11/05/2008, -7/+51SIMULATED holograms, its not actually a hologram.
buried as inaccurate. - AManWithNoName, on 11/05/2008, -1/+42CNN has some of the best toys, I gotta wonder if they don't have some google execs tied up in a basement working for them.
- dkkaple, on 11/05/2008, -3/+44Huh. Didn't think of that. Checkmate.
- inactive, on 11/05/2008, -1/+42i want to believe :(
- kss42, on 11/05/2008, -2/+42The son of McCain must not become a Jedi
- joegibes, on 11/05/2008, -0/+38Psh don't worry about the president or anything; CNN HAS HOLOGRAMS
- dkkaple, on 11/05/2008, -12/+50Why? I mean it's cool and all....but...why?
- jamdogg, on 11/05/2008, -0/+36If there were 35 HD cameras around her there would have to also be 35 projectors to build the hologram. The intersecting projected light would also need a medium off of which to reflect such as smoke or mist and in order to prevent light pollution from the opposing projector, I have two suggestions:
1) Angle the projectors above or below the hologram target area and have them all on at the same time.
2)Devise a system that tracks the viewers position and only lights up the projectors needed from their frame of reference.
The CNN "hologram" did not actually appear in the studio this was done the way ThisCommentSux pointed out. - inactive, on 11/05/2008, -2/+38Seriously, this ***** is such a simple gimmick. Just a freaking blue screen...
- garths, on 11/05/2008, -1/+35How about news?
