“You know my opponent is running ads and holding press conferences and attacking me because I have a plan to get the oil companies to pay the gas tax this summer, and give you a little bit of relief,”
This was greeted with a round of applause. that is not a typo - she actually said that she will get the OIL COMPANIES to pay the GAS TAX. I thought she was supposed to be against the gas tax!

How about stripping away all her votes in that state? Harsh? Maybe. But, the usual slap on the wrist and wag of the finger is hardly a deterrent from doing it again and again.

- Ajajadude, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5I can remember that's pretty much how my college ran their student president elections: each candidate was given the same number of "points" and each infraction they or any of their supporters committed resulted in points being deducted. Obviously, once a candidate loses all their points they're kicked out of the election process.
These politicians have millions at their disposal. Any penalty they can receive is pretty much worth it, especially if they get votes in their favor. Why the rules/laws can't be changed to make people want to play by the rules is beyond me. - sgtpppr, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5They are surprisingly similar in the fact they will claim both new england and the south when it fits their voting needs. Bush sits and claims to be a Texas good ole boy and went to Yale (and spent most of his time in new england). Hillary is a New York senator and only claims Arkansas when she needs southern votes. I think the secret is to live about 15 years in each part of the country so you can claim to be 'one of' every part of the nation. The end goal is simply to get elected...eh?

If the candidate gets elected, it's not like they hold another election if one party or the other is proven to have broken the law. The way the system is now, the ends completely justify the means. Unless we find a way to instantly execute these people if they break the law, they really have nothing to lose. Hillary, especially, has nothing to lose.

At any rate, how come I haven't heard anyone admit that they were wrong to support the Clintons then. If Hilary is full of Dirty Tricks and other Evil, then was Dole so bad that they were better? I know its too different people, Bill & Hillary, but they are one and the same, and nobody knows either of them better than anyone else, so their support of each other is tacit approval of their behavior, therefore there is no difference.
