- inactive, on 03/07/2009, -6/+66So few people actually give a ***** about the most basic and fundamental constitutional protections.
- leadfoot, on 03/07/2009, -4/+56Did we expect anything less?
- matt9189, on 03/08/2009, -1/+20Those damn black highlighters...
- DiggMasterJ, on 03/07/2009, -4/+20I think the people who were responsible for those tapes should be held accountable. Life in prison sounds fitting. If you think water torture is the worst of it, think again. The public knows about water torture, that whole thing already blew over. This is more than likely along the lines of children being raped in front of their mothers, as has been alleged by a credible reporter.
- inactive, on 03/07/2009, -2/+18I wonder if the agent/agents who erased these tapes were Gordon Liddy, amoral, ***** the constitution for the greater good types or were just caught up used and implicated in the Bush/Cheney torture policy. Or both.
- SifuMoKung, on 03/08/2009, -1/+15Go to Zimbabwe. They don't value civil rights over there. You'll feel right at home.
- inactive, on 03/08/2009, -0/+13Maybe the CIA had to destroy the tapes for our safety because someone recorded the funniest joke in the world.
- SifuMoKung, on 03/08/2009, -3/+15You are such a tool. The CIA torturing people is good, but the ACLU standing up and protecting American citizen's rights are bad. Ignoramus.
- SifuMoKung, on 03/08/2009, -0/+12Yeah, 'cause those pesky rights keep citizens from keeping their mouths shut and embracing totalitarianism.
- BluesFan, on 03/08/2009, -1/+12Why don't they just come out and say "yes we tortured them and yes some of them died a horrible death, we destroyed the tapes to protect the interrogators and to make you think we don't do such things....even though we know you know we do these things"
Sadly even if they did come out and say this most people don't care anymore anyway. - inactive, on 03/07/2009, -6/+16The independent, freedom loving American was rural and mostly self sufficient. These men and women were confident in themselves. They knew that they could prosper if they were not thwarted by authorities. Those were the people that fought for independence and wrote the Constitution. They were not looking for government to give them anything, they were interested only in limiting government so that it would not interfere with their freedom.
Americans are not indepent and sulf sufficient any longer. They are soft and expect someone to take care of them. They want a leader thatcthey can worship. They don't care about their own rights as long as they can pay the bills, they sure don't care about the rights of some Aeab guy that they understand to be a threat to the continued exitence of the USA.
Freedom sounds good and we will continue to hear the word, but it's meaningless without responsibility.
Brother, Americans couldn't care less about the Constitution. - hawkspur, on 03/08/2009, -3/+12Wow. Eat a dick.
The ACLU is one of the few organizations defending our rights instead of wiping their asses with the Constitution like some of you mother ***** like to do in the name of "national security". - sumeetg, on 03/08/2009, -0/+9You're talking about an agency that has been known to destroy foreign governments and start civil wars. Destroying evidence is all in a days work for them.
- ZZeke, on 03/08/2009, -1/+9Torture does not produce reliable information, ever. If it did, it would be an integral part of our justice system. Sleep on that.
- hawkeye17, on 03/08/2009, -0/+8When the CIA resorts to torture and all the other garbage they've done in the name of "freedom", we no longer are free. What these people are saying is that anything goes in the name of 'freedom' and that's patently ridiculous.
- Egroh08, on 03/08/2009, -0/+7Oh... so as long as they're foreign, it's okay to use illegal interrogation methods, and to disregard civil liberties. And what if you have the wrong person to begin with? You do know that torture is notoriously unreliable, right? If someone tortured me I would admit to anything to make it stop.
Honestly, saying that you are "against any attack on our civil liberties," because we're Americans, and also saying it's okay if they are "non-US citizens" is soooooo hypocritical and ridiculous. - inactive, on 03/08/2009, -0/+7I wonder why....
According to some diggers, the Bush administration was so much more respectful to people's freedom than the "new guy".... /s - PeterODactyl, on 03/08/2009, -0/+7Yes.
- hawkeye17, on 03/08/2009, -0/+6Attack the messager, ignore the message.....a tactic that is a sure sign of ignorance.

- hartley, on 03/08/2009, -0/+5Yeah I did. They actually left 2 tapes out of 92.
- hawkeye17, on 03/08/2009, -0/+5Yueaylp, you're ignorance is stunning.
- CaptOblivious, on 03/08/2009, -0/+5I think the destruction should be taken as a confession by all involved to all the charges and the court should proceed directly to meting out the maximum punishment to everyone involved in both the actual acts and the destruction.
This has the additional benefit of perhaps making the next defendants think about the consequences of destroying evidence.. - SifuMoKung, on 03/08/2009, -2/+7It's not torture.
It's enhanced interrogation.
I hope they got the information they wanted so I can feel safer. - Hashishian, on 03/08/2009, -0/+5the CIA and Freedom have no base for being used in the same sentence....
the CIA assassinates rulers for The FEDERAL RESERVE......like JFK for instance...
What an IDIOT...just another useless government shill..... - eir574, on 03/09/2009, -0/+4Rjohnson99,
Continuing with that line of thinking, is it okay for another country to do that to US citizens? And, are there any limits to whom we may torture (other than excluding US citizens)? British citizens? Canadian? Or only the ones with funny sounding names? - v0ider, on 03/08/2009, -0/+4Digg is being haunted by the ghost of Jerry Falwell.
- inactive, on 03/08/2009, -0/+4Just thinking about that nearly gave me a heart attack.
- LordBacon, on 03/08/2009, -0/+4OMG ?!
- bizchris, on 03/08/2009, -0/+4I generally agree with your perspective, but would argue that our independent, freedom-loving, rural, self-efficient ancestors also might not have fought for the rights of some Arab guy that they understood to be a threat to the continued existence of the USA.
- Irashtar, on 03/08/2009, -1/+5If they don't get this information, or the person simply doesn't have it, do you still condone it?
- MavRevMatt, on 03/08/2009, -0/+3Is it just me or does it seem stupid of the CIA to record these tapes when they know that they're breaking the law and it's gonna come back and bite them in the ass later?

- v0ider, on 03/08/2009, -0/+3That's good to hear. We live in cow.
- inactive, on 03/08/2009, -2/+5That's the point my friend, excuse me for not writing more clearly.
The founders realized that rights had to be universal. They applied to anyone in the United States. We know this because nowhere in the Bill of Rights are those rights limited. - americanoboy, on 03/08/2009, -2/+4wouldn't want the americans to see the truth about their cruel practices.

- sluggybuggy, on 03/08/2009, -0/+3Doug Cassel: If the president deems that he's got to torture somebody, including by crushing the testicles of the person's child, there is no law that can stop him?
John Yoo: No treaty.
Doug Cassel: Also no law by Congress -- that is what you wrote in the August 2002 memo...
John Yoo: I think it depends on why the President thinks he needs to do that. - inactive, on 03/09/2009, -0/+3Our Founders DID NOT look to government for banks. Quite the contrary, actually, as Jefferson & Jackson both proved, but ultimately Wilson capitulated. Central quasi-government (but privately owned, despite the fact that few know it!) banking was born in 1913.
- JoeParanoid, on 03/09/2009, -0/+3If it wasn't torture as they allege, they wouldn't need to destroy the evidence.

Some fool might have mistakingly thought that a "CIA" might actually want to positively advance humanity's intelligence?? ...but I guess that would be tough when there is no foundation of basic logic or simple common sense.
